Chapter 139 Unexpected

"Let me make it clear beforehand that once we launch an attack, everyone within our detection range will be considered a target."

"No wonder those two big guys just kept watching us without doing anything."

I glanced at the two statues in front of me: "But it's simple, I just need to go somewhere far away from you to cast the spell."

“It might be easier to deal with these guys using a sharp blade,” Sheng said, pulling a small knife from his lower back and handing it over. It was unclear when he had gotten it. “I only have a short knife here, you’ll have to make do with this.”

"Actually, it's not necessary..."

Seeing the boy's face darken instantly, I obediently accepted it.

The battle in the distance continues, but it is nearing its end.

A thin white mist filled the vast exhibition hall, with neatly cut white fragments scattered on the ground, forming obstacles of varying heights and haphazardly. As for the statues that were still in motion, they were waving their own or others' limbs in ways far beyond what statues could do, attacking the sword demon one after another, without hesitation even if it meant hitting their nearby companions.

Like a grasshopper, the sword demon leaped back and forth across the bodies of these haphazardly moving statues, attracting them to destroy each other. Occasionally, when they couldn't avoid it, he would swing his straight sword to deflect the incoming attacks and use the momentum to move to another foothold.

Compared to his overly aggressive style at the beginning of the battle, he now seemed more inclined to conserve his energy and end the rest of the fight with minimal movement.

Of course, one of the two celestial statues that were targeted first, the one with the jewel inlaid on the hilt of the sword, was still in relatively good condition, except for the missing half of its wing. It stood at a distance with its hands clasped together, holding up the huge sword straight up, as if it were gathering strength.

The statues that kept rushing towards it stood between it and the sword demon. No matter how strong the sword demon was, it could not break through the statues' encirclement and advance in a short time.

I glanced at the statue to check the distance between myself and it.

It is slightly longer than the arm span plus the sword length.

The surging magic flowed towards the gradually brightening sapphire, like a star falling to earth and suddenly radiating light. The dazzling color even subtly overshadowed the brightness of the nearby wall lamps, illuminating the surroundings as if they were beneath surging waves, yet far more translucent and pure.

"What are you doing here?"

An annoying voice rang out from afar. I turned around and saw the Sword Demon staring straight at me as he approached.

I naturally didn't bother to answer, but simply moved to a different hiding spot, concealing myself in the shadows behind a nearby pillar to prevent the sword demon from directing the statues chasing him to transfer their hatred onto me.

Let whoever wants to fight, I'm not even close to my goal yet.

Taking advantage of the fact that I haven't attacked the statue yet and therefore am immune to attack, I need to get closer so that my next plan can proceed without fail.

The nascent wind blade had gathered in my palm, desperately trying to contain the scattered fragments of wind and the fluctuating wind blade. It trembled violently at a high frequency and in a small amplitude, eager to fly out of my hand.

But now is not the best time to release it, not to mention that I haven't reached the intended position yet, so I can't let it freely absorb and plunder all the magic power floating nearby.

Stop dreaming.

The nasty snickers grew closer, followed by the constant vibrations of pebbles hitting the ground.

“That statue is different from the others; it’s the kind that must be opposed. As soon as you enter its detection range, you will inevitably be attacked.”

I stopped in my tracks and glanced at him suspiciously: "How did you know?"

Sheng, who knows a lot, didn't tell me this. Was it another oversight, or was it due to some oversight?

But when I looked back, I saw a child looking at me with a confident gaze. After our eyes met, the child raised his hand and silently cheered me on with an exaggerated gesture. He didn't seem like the kind of person who would do that kind of thing.

Similarly, my senses did not provide any warning.

The sword demon in front of him chuckled again, then shut up and didn't reply.

One possibility is that he actually fell for it, while another possibility is that he deliberately spread false information for some unknown reason.

But that doesn't make sense either.

Fortunately, I don't need to think about these things anymore. They are all right in front of me. Seeing is believing, rather than just hearing about them.

Just be a little more vigilant.

Confirming that the Sword Demon was once again entangled by the pursuing, broken statues, I slowly moved a little closer to the statues that were gathering their power.

The closer you get, the greater the pressure you feel around you.

This wasn't the oppressive aura or fear that people usually talk about. Rather, it was a small-scale distortion of magical energy caused by a large amount of magic gathering in one place, much like the magical turbulence above the Abyss Mountains. It was precisely because I am a mage that I felt this so clearly.

Not only was everything visible to the naked eye dyed the azure blue of the sea, but in my perception, centered on that sapphire, the broadsword made of plaster became like a real magical artifact, containing strong and dazzling magic power from the inside out, turning into a flowing, circulating river that almost blinded me.

A vague unease finally surfaced in my heart: if he really unleashed this move, not only would the Sword Demon, its target, be torn in two, but even this exhibition hall we are in now might be torn in two as well.
