Chapter 14: Preparations Before Going Out (shuhaige.net)

Thank you for the invitation. As a pure human, this was my first time trying to eat magic stones, and it felt very novel. The taste was similar to tasting sweet spring water mixed with large chunks of ice.

The only slightly troublesome thing is that the magic stones are usually quite large and hard. If you don't have good teeth, you may easily hurt yourself or strain your muscles if you use too much force. It is recommended to cut them into small pieces in advance and polish them to remove the sharp edges so that they are easy to put in your mouth.

The excess shavings from the cutting and grinding process can be used as alchemical materials, or introduced into hollow transparent tubes and activated with a small amount of magic to create simple lighting decorations, which can greatly improve the environment if it is too monotonous or unsightly.

Finally, there were too many acquaintances around, and I was too embarrassed to admit it, so I remained anonymous.

I picked up another broken magic stone and put it in my mouth. I rubbed my cheek, which was still aching slightly, collected my thoughts, thought for a few seconds, put down the controller, and went over to watch Yao busy himself.

Time seems to stand still within the miniature garden. There are no dramatic changes in weather, nor are there any strong winds or heavy rains. The clean, fine rain that falls at will is swept away by the gentle breeze, sweeping away the dust from the buildings before falling back to the earth, giving rise to verdant life.

"What is this?" I tilted my head to look at the tool that Yao was fiddling with. It looked like a large box with a hollow center. "It feels a bit familiar, but it's different from anything I know."

"A simple inspection device. Its main purpose is to directly penetrate the shell of an organism and observe its internal structure."

Yao walked past me, took a stack of black papers from the doll maid who came over, examined them carefully in the light for a moment, seemed to understand something, then walked back to his original position, turned the [cat] who was quietly lying on the table grooming its fur over, rubbed its chin a few times, and then gently stroked its exposed belly.

I then realized that I was standing in the wrong position, so I moved to the other side and peered at the images on the pages. I saw that most of the slightly reflective pages showed several transparent oval patterns with different sizes of divisions and intervals inside. The contents of the ovals were also different, and I had no idea what they were.

Fortunately, Yao quickly explained: "What's shown on there are the contents of this [cat], which are what we commonly call the internal organs and bones."

"I originally intended to confirm whether the creature that gained life from the painting was structurally different from ordinary life, but now it seems that apart from the head, which is of completely unknown composition, the rest are basically not very different."

"I see."

I felt like I didn't quite understand, but that didn't stop me from responding: "Then why not just use a detection spell? That would be faster and more convenient, wouldn't it?"

“Unfortunately, that’s impossible.” Releasing the [cat] and gathering the documents in his hands to the side, Yao tidied up his tools and turned halfway towards me. “I tried it at first, but the spells all fell silent after touching the shell of this life. It’s like dipping a paintbrush with red paint into highly concentrated red ink; apart from making the originally transparent color slightly murky, it can hardly produce any feedback.”

"Perhaps the essence that constitutes its body is magic with extremely high density?"

I watched the cat scratching the back of its neck and muttered to myself thoughtfully. As if sensing my gaze, the cat suddenly stopped, raised its tail, and rubbed against me gently, meowing softly.

Reaching out, I touched the cat's chin and the back of its head. The soft, fluffy texture, so similar to that of a real cat, was clearly felt from my fingertips, and soon a comfortable purring sound came from beneath my touch.

To be honest, when I first brought the vessel that housed [Aisha's] lingering resentment back to the Little Garden, I didn't bring this creature with its strangely colorful head along with it. I thought it was just a manifestation of the strange illusion, a manifestation of the recollections of the painting that resided deep within the lingering resentment, and that it would disappear along with the illusion once it dissipated.

Just now, when I woke up inside and stepped out of the door to look for tools to cut and grind magic stones, I happened to see Hikari carrying this quiet [cat] that didn't look like a cat passing by not far away. Only then did I realize that this being with a colorful head was actually a living being that could move in the real world and had real life, and it would wander around Miss [Aisha] on its own.

Wait a minute, let's not even talk about how it got here, since my little garden isn't even connected yet; anyone with the right coordinates can enter. But following this logic, doesn't that mean that annoying crow will also appear here?

Cats, crows, and a woman who looks young.

A very familiar combination.

So, on the wall where I was attacked by crows, how many paintings with heads covered in colorful patterns were hanging there?

Yao curled the corners of his mouth: "That [crow] probably just wanted to get rid of you, this uninvited guest who suddenly barged into the [gallery]. At least its attitude towards us was relatively friendly."

"[Aisha] Is Miss Aisha getting used to it here?" I asked as I took out a magic stone fragment and put it in my mouth.

I have to say, once you get used to this stuff, it's quite addictive. It's like eating hard candy; it melts in your mouth and turns into a sweet liquid that flows into your stomach. Afterward, you feel like you've become a little smarter and more energetic. You can solve countless mathematical puzzles that you couldn't solve before, and then you'll habitually want to grab another one to try.

When you have time, you should buy some more to keep on hand. They're great as snacks, and it's no wonder those fairies like them.

Just as I was thinking this, I saw Hikari lean out of the kitchen, waving her right hand holding a spatula and baring her teeth at me: "Mr. Yumi! If you keep snacking like this, you won't be able to eat lunch later! I rarely cook for you, and I'll be sad if you don't even try a bite!"
