Chapter 144: Turned into a cat!
Forced by circumstances and the need for communication, Hikari finally brought out Alice, the rascal rabbit who had been disguised as a doll.
"So this bunny doll was actually alive all along!"
Anne was shocked to see Alice in action for the first time. She quickly took two steps back and leaned against the corner of the wall, her fingertips trembling as she pointed at a rascal rabbit butler who was slowly grooming his long ears.
Hikari picked me up and placed me on her soft lap, blinking her eyes: "Didn't you see the maids in the miniature garden? Aren't they the same as this one?"
"It's different—!!!"
Anne seemed really distraught, though I didn't quite understand what was causing her distress.
I shook my beard in dissatisfaction, then reached out and pressed down on the blades of grass that were swaying merrily in front of my face, finally feeling a little more at ease.
As before, let me first explain the current situation.
Based on the fragmented information pieced together from Hikari and Annie's conversation, it seems that I passed out on the table shortly after eating the food Annie prepared.
At that time, a certain clueless, food-destroying Miss Anne Fines thought I was sleepy again and was about to go back to sleep, so she muttered something as she dragged me to the floor and hastily laid out a blanket on me.
After finishing all that, thinking that I might want to eat something else after I got up, Annie took the pot of unidentified objects back to the refrigerator in the kitchen and then took her towel and went to soak in the hot spring.
After taking a bath for nearly half an hour, she walked down the corridor and bumped into Miyuki and Aian, who were returning to the cabin, at the entrance. Because the two looked rather gloomy and were walking with unusually hurried steps, Annie said she was afraid of delaying things, so she led them back to the dining room, which had been converted into a bedroom.
Just then, Hikari, who had just woken up, thought no one was around, so she rubbed her eyes and got up to walk outside, bumping into the three people who came towards her. After hearing that Annie had placed my unconscious body to sleep near her, she tilted her head in confusion and said that apart from the messy bedding, she did not see anyone around.
The group, who had been hoping I would sneak away after I got up, searched the small house thoroughly. Finally, without much hope, they lifted the messy bedding and found a short-haired cat with black fur on its back and snow-white limbs curled up inside.
"Meow (And then)."
"Hoo hoo, my lovely, fluffy owner is asking you, and then what happened?"
Alice, acting as the translator, pricked up one ear in my direction, her three-lobed mouth pouting smugly, and translated my words in a crisp voice, adding some unnecessary embellishments as she went along.
How is it that this guy can understand what I'm saying?
The three, who had sent Ayan to rest early, exchanged glances, and Hikari spoke first: "I thought it was Fokin (the name Hikari gave the cat) that came. Since you two are usually close, I thought I'd bring it to you. But after observing it carefully, I felt that its fur color was a bit off. I had only called its name twice when Fokin came in from outside the door."
"Then we discovered that one person was missing from the house, and there was an extra cat."
Shen Xue crossed her arms over her chest and gracefully crossed her legs, with a cup of white peach blossom tea that had long since gone cold beside her.
As she spoke, the [cat] with the mottled head gracefully jumped onto Hikari's lap, startling me so much that I quickly scrambled up and jumped onto the nearby table. The [cat] followed closely behind, circling me twice before nuzzling me with its neck outstretched.
It even tried to hook my tail with its own.
This is so strange. The fur on my side was being rubbed back and forth repeatedly, it felt like someone was forcibly pulling off my clothes and rubbing my skin.
I'm still not used to such close contact. Besides, [Cat] is a life form created by Miss [Aisha] in the painting. I don't know if the other party can know what's happening here through [Cat]... Oh, it seems not.
Thinking about the crow that has disappeared without a trace, this worry automatically dissipates.
But I'm still not used to getting too close to other people...animals...living beings, so I stretched out my paw and pushed the [cat] away from its shoulder, while also trying to pull my own tail back.
How do you control that tail again? Why does it feel like it's getting tighter and tighter?
In the end, it was our dear little silly boy who saved the day, patiently reaching out to slowly untangle our tangled tail, thus sparing us the pain of losing it.
The rascal rabbit watched from the sidelines with its mouth covered, and even though it didn't make a sound, a clear smile could be seen in its brightened ruby eyes.
So the first thing I did after untying its tail was to rush over and try to scratch it, but unfortunately the overly agile rabbit dodged it.
Walking on four legs is really not something I'm used to.
Holding me in the center of a soft pillow, I gently stepped on it a couple of times to test the feel of my feet. After confirming that it wasn't too prickly or too hard and uncomfortable, I squatted down and tugged my ears back.
Because I haven't dedicated much time to studying this technique, the longest I've ever used my transformation technique is more than half an hour. Most of the time, it's only used to escape when my mentor catches me. Although I can be instantly pulled back if my mentor is willing, there are also times when they choose to let me go.
But why did I suddenly have to use the transformation spell? And why haven't I been able to undo it yet?
I don't have the habit of leaving any transformation triggers on my body. When I'm in hibernation, I usually use a combination of defensive barriers and lightning bolts to protect myself.
