Chapter 154 All That's Warm
With the flapping of Pegasus's wings, the hot spring hut was left far behind at an extremely fast speed, and soon, with a series of migrations, even the mountain could hardly be seen anymore, blocked in the distance by new and higher peaks.
"Suddenly, I feel quite reluctant to part with it."
Annie, who was flying ahead, lay prone in the Pegasus's soft mane and suddenly murmured softly. Her voice carried clearly back with the wind.
"After all, this is the place that has created many memories these past few days."
Hikari gently pressed my head back into her clothes, as if worried that I would catch a cold, and wrapped her clothes tightly, leaving only a small opening for me to peek out with half my face showing: "Although it has only been a few days, it feels like a period of more than a month."
I meowed twice as a sign of agreement, because it seemed to me that so much time had really passed. The other half of the time I spent in the [Simulated Law Ring] gave me the occasional illusion that my life had been extended by more than twice as long.
Fortunately, the mental burden wasn't too heavy, and I also had the ability to make my research on magic twice as effective, otherwise I would have given up long ago.
"...At least, you're having a pretty good time, right?"
I tilted my head back and asked a question, and then I saw the little fool smile happily: "Yes. And Mr. Yumi seems to be very happy too, so it's already a very meaningful time for me."
Is there?
I muttered to myself, not daring to answer, but just pulled my head back in, burying my body in the warmth that made the cat lazy, and then involuntarily yawned.
"Hmm~ I just suddenly felt that it would be nice if Mr. Yumi could always be a cute cat, so I could hold him in my arms forever."
"Do you like small animals?" With that question in mind, I looked up at him again.
I often see Hikari interacting amicably with the little ones I let roam freely in the miniature garden. When we rest at the hot spring hut, the main task of caring for the Pegasus herd is also entrusted to Hikari, who volunteered to take care of them. I seem to have subconsciously equated our adorable little silly girl with caring for animals, to the point that I completely forgot to ask her if she felt burdened or annoyed by taking on this troublesome task.
But gentle words soon followed, without the slightest hesitation or wavering: "I love everything that can shine."
As she said this, Hikari gently bit my earlobe, which was peeking out from under my clothes, causing it to tremble involuntarily and escape from between her lips.
I yawned again, adjusted the position of my hands and feet, and felt my eyelids become even heavier.
"Want to sleep a little longer? We still have a long time before we reach our destination."
I nodded gently, and my eyelids, which were no longer holding me up, began to droop and gradually closed.
I vaguely recall reading in an academic report describing the ecology of various animals that a cat's basic sleep time is around 22 hours a day...?
I can't remember.
In the warm, gentle ripples, I gradually relaxed my control over my body, shrinking into the warm depths as if about to merge with one another.
...
You seem very tired.
A cold voice rang out nearby, abruptly waking me from my gentle slumber.
I flinched for a second, then suddenly looked up. The madman holding the familiar straight sword was standing not far away, looking down at me with a clear searching look in his dark, shadowed eyes.
I jumped up from the ground in fright, and then belatedly realized that I was no longer in cat form. I gradually relaxed my control over my stiff back and caused a little bit of flowing magic to gather in my palms and fingers behind my back.
The magic that made the flow exceptionally gentle answered my call.
“I don’t recommend you continue with those underhanded tactics.” Sword Demon turned his face away, looking towards the side bathed in bright light. “I’m not here to fight.”
After carefully observing the flow of his breath and the relaxation of his muscles, I confirmed his words with some skepticism.
Then a new question arose: "How did you get here?" Why was this madman, who could go insane at any moment, allowed in?
I still remember the scene when I first encountered the Sword Demon. Even though I thought I had seen many different kinds of misfortune, such a miserable and vicious situation was the first time I had ever encountered it in my life.
But the sword demon's answer was also very direct: "I only know this location."
"What?"
"This is the only safe zone I know that can be called a safe zone."
I didn't understand it at first.
Was the safe zone outside destroyed by the accident described by those people, or was there another reason? It can't be that this guy in front of us has never been to any other places, right?
I almost laughed just thinking about it: "Hey, don't tell me...?"
A fierce gaze instantly glared at him, a fleeting hint of murderous intent flashing across his face: "I have indeed never gone far."
This joke isn't funny at all, really.
No, how can someone like you, who has lived this kind of life hundreds of times, manage to just go around in circles every time? How do you manage to stay patient and not get bored?
...Okay, it seems that the guy who played this game hundreds of times and is still enthusiastic about it is someone I know.
I took another serious look at the guy in front of me.
Compared to his appearance in the hidden dungeon last night, the Sword Demon now looked rather disheveled. His coat had many rips and tears, and his plain face and slightly long, messy hair seemed to have just been washed, with a few traces of water still remaining at the ends.
