Chapter 157 [The Fool's Curtain]
My mentor possesses two distinct authorities.
This was something I was told shortly after I became my mentor's disciple.
The former, named the [Library of All Things], is a vast library capable of holding all the books in the world, constantly growing and renewing itself. It is a sanctuary of near-absolute safety, untouched by any other authority. The key to unlocking it is hung around my neck by my mentor, and even if I carelessly discard it, it will automatically return to my hand.
The latter, named [The Fool's Curtain], is a strange object whose true form has never been revealed before, and which I have only now come to know.
If I'm not mistaken, its function might be to house books retrieved from the library and to display specific images.
I still don't quite understand.
Even after studying the board in my hands for a long time, I still couldn't figure out how it worked.
But there's something even more unbelievable.
No way, this is ridiculous! When did my supervisor give me this? Instead of letting me know beforehand, he could at least have given me an instruction manual! I can't just throw it away, can I really refuse it?
I tried pressing the protrusion on the sidebar again, just like Sheng had done before. After several attempts, I only got a bright red low battery warning, but there was no sign of it opening at all.
Insufficient magic power is understandable, but what is electricity? Is it some kind of energy similar in nature to magic power?
After several unsuccessful attempts, I finally had to swallow my pride and ask Sheng, who was still slumped over the table like a wilted vegetable, "You should know what to do when the battery is low, right?"
"Hmm?" Tilting his head in confusion, Sheng glanced at the tablet I handed him and nodded slightly. "I do know some places where we can get enough power. Are you trying to get information from the game under these circumstances?"
It was similar to what he said, but also somewhat different.
Although I still don't understand why this authority requires a battery to function, it's always good to try it a few more times. Maybe that's why the prompt box is labeled with the word "fragments" next to [The Fool's Curtain].
Seeing me nod, Sheng's eyes lit up for a moment, but quickly dimmed again: "Although I think what you said is a good method, but... at least we can't get there now."
"how?"
"Because we have to go through the same grove of trees we came from."
Sheng said frankly, picked up the teapot and poured himself half a cup. After drinking it, he smacked his lips and said, "It's the forest I mentioned to you before, the forest overlord that is the final boss in this mission."
"We need to cross that forest to reach the only power plant in the vicinity. Then we'll need to complete a series of tasks to find a way to replace the damaged core interface, restart the damaged power plant, and then..."
He paused here, then looked up and stared blankly at the bright lights above.
I waited, puzzled.
Then a phantom vine shot out from behind him, lay prone on the ground, and stretched outwards along the edges that were not easily noticed.
After waiting for a moment, Sheng, who had been frozen like a plaster statue, finally came to his senses and gulped down half a cup of cold tea: "Strange!"
"So, could you tell me what happened?" I asked.
"The power hasn't been cut off." Sheng also answered the question in turn.
I looked up at the top of my head, then looked back at him.
Sheng explained rapidly, "Didn't I just say that the nearby power plant would be damaged? If it's damaged, the power supply inside this library will be affected, and then there will be no power here, the lights won't turn on, and we won't be able to sit here and relax peacefully—!" He suddenly slapped his palm, "Anyway! Don't worry about it! This is actually a good thing for us!"
As he spoke, he took the tablet from my hand, then pulled out a cable from somewhere, plugged it into the bottom, and walked towards the wall.
Based on my familiar knowledge, I simply understood what he had just said: "According to what you're saying, there must be people inside that power plant, and those people are ensuring the supply of electricity."
"Yes, although I don't know where those people came from, it's still a good thing..." Sheng suddenly fell silent for a moment, then ran over and pulled me away. "Big brother, is your circuit board broken? Why won't it charge?"
I don't understand what it means.
After another long period of trouble, Jian Sheng went to find several nearby survivors, borrowed some things from them to try, and finally concluded that there were no problems.
"Perhaps it's a problem with your board itself."
He handed the plain white board back to me, looking puzzled. He asked, equally confused, "I didn't notice any major problems when it was running before, and other people's computers didn't have this problem of not being able to turn on after being shut down. What could be wrong with it?"
Is it because the [Fool's Curtain] itself is not quite the same as the structure of the flat plate that Sheng is familiar with?
I was just marveling at how authoritative my mentor must be, and now I'm complaining that other methods are too complicated.
"But this thing can be turned on as long as there's electricity, right?"
I tried asking him, and he replied listlessly, "That's how it is if no parts are broken."
Although I still don't quite understand some of the settings here, I've roughly grasped the basic principles of electricity after Sheng's tinkering with it.
