Chapter 161 The Cicada Awaits

A furious roar erupted from the blood-stained mouth of the forest overlord, creating an invisible aura around him. The bastard in the black trench coat was also forced back, using the momentum to leap more than ten meters away before finally stopping himself by plunging his sword into the scorched mud.

"The boss has entered phase two!"

Even without Sheng's reminder, I was able to notice the changes happening in the room.

The already massive beast arched its back, its scarred muscles bursting open with horrifying gashes. Dark purple veins snaked across its body, gradually turning its tiger-like fur black with streaks of blood. A bloodthirsty crimson gleamed in its cold, dim yellow pupils.

In an instant, the giant beast's size more than doubled. Its body, which was originally only half a story tall, stood upright and was almost level with where we were standing now.

I sensed a familiar aura from the liger's transformation, but due to the urgency of the situation, I couldn't recall it at the moment.

Sensing danger, Sheng immediately reached out, and the swaying green vines flew up close to the ground, quickly climbing up to its grounded feet. While continuously extending and growing upwards, it also spread out roots downwards, intending to fix it as firmly as possible to the earth, and adding layers of soft cushioning and defense in front of us.

However, compared to absolute violence, such a rapid and emergency response is merely a drop in the ocean.

The next moment, accompanied by another furious roar, the booming sound of footsteps landing reached us in an instant.

Sheng's emergency response was undeniably ingenious, but unfortunately, it was done hastily and not to his best. The tangled vines only held on for a moment before shattering into pieces under the powerful force of his body. Sheng himself was also affected by the transmitted force, coughing up a mouthful of blood, and his defenses weakened slightly.

In the blink of an eye, the second-stage liger, having turned its main target around, broke through all obstacles and soared into the air above us.

The chilling claws stretched straight toward us, and close in were the gaping maws and the stench of their breath.

Without a doubt, in less than five seconds, our tragic death will befall us.

The Sword Demon, who is chasing after us, will take at least six more seconds to arrive—although I think it's more likely that he deliberately delayed for half a breath, it's undeniable that the Forest Overlord, after its second-stage transformation, possesses a speed that far surpasses that of the Sword Demon.

Having never felt the approaching death so vividly, Sheng froze without any surprise. No matter how clever and resourceful she had been before, she was still just a child who had never personally experienced the death knell and had always had a smooth and successful life.

I could even sense that the little magic power in his body was in disarray. This was clearly because he had lost his composure in the face of the imminent killing intent, and even his control over all his abilities had become disordered, which led to this result.

That won't do.

Even though he was just a beginner who had just mastered this power, and he maintained this performance, he could not reach the end on the dangerous path.

At first, I thought he was the kind of outstanding individual with extraordinary adaptability.

I exhaled briefly, looked up, and gazed at the claws so close to me, their tips constantly emitting dazzling light and shadow effects.

Compared to rays that have the property of disintegration, claws, which are just sharper, are obviously much easier to defend against.

Even if the current defensive barrier could be breached in a short time under continuous pressure, this is still true.

At least this is not the only defensive barrier I have set up based on the premise of intercepting attacks.

However, the technique I had specially prepared was already in place before that.

It was a spear that seemed to be cast in gold, and its entire body was sculpted by time like flames. Fine arcs of lightning danced back and forth on the surface of the spear. Even I, as its creator, was slightly paralyzed when I touched it.

This is the best result I can achieve without relying on aids such as [liquid metal].

Seemingly sensing a strong threat, the liger roared again, revealing a transparent aura around itself, causing the already crumbling barrier to show more cracks and broken marks.

The fierce wind uprooted the few remaining large trees and turned the surface rubble into sharp weapons that could injure people, forcing the sword demon, who was about to make a move, to stop and cross his arms in front of his chest to defend himself.

Fortunately, thanks to the soft wall that Sheng had set up behind us, we only moved back half an inch and didn't tumble directly off the broken rooftop. But even so, the situation was still precarious.

"You are indeed scared, aren't you?" I murmured, a smile playing on my lips.

The words I had been preparing for flowed from my lips, becoming the prelude to launching an attack:

The lightning spear, extinguished in an instant, shook the heavens and earth before vanishing like a flash of light!

The moment the words fell, the lightning spear that had been floating in my palm, emitting a faint tremor, vanished.

A moment of silence fell over the area, followed by a series of loud booms in front of me.

So I raised my head and looked at the ferocious lion-tiger beast not far in front of me, then quickly turned back to my back.

Unaware of what was happening, the colossal beast remained frozen in mid-air, brandishing its claws. Its gaping maw, dripping blood, continued to roar, but suddenly, some dark red blood clots mixed with fragments of broken internal organs emerged from it. The surface of its body, which had gained many black spots after the second stage, turned charred black, showing the color of burnt charcoal.
