Chapter 162 The girl is praying
I finally woke up from my sleep filled with anger.
What does it mean to say, "This is my property, and you dare to lay a finger on it. You must pay the price"?
Who is that bastard with that familiar voice?!
I squirmed restlessly on the soft mat. The lingering dull pain in my consciousness made me feel like there was something dirty stuck to my back that I couldn't shake off. Finally, Hikari noticed my abnormality, leaned over, gently patted my back, and stroked my fur, which finally brought me back to my senses from my uncontrollable anger.
"What's wrong? Is it because you're not comfortable sleeping like this? Or is there something wrong with your body?"
Hikari's soft voice whispered in my ear, her sleepy eyes, still misty with tears, revealed a clear look of worry.
The vibration in my throat conveyed a dissatisfied whimper. A moment later, I realized that I was no longer just able to meow. I pulled my ears back, turned around, and looked to the other side.
The campfire crackled, and looking out, the pure white snow almost filled the cave entrance, which was about half a person high. After squinting and staring, one realized that it was not snow at all, but a strong Pegasus with a pure white coat.
Where are we now?
I turned around thoughtfully and looked at the silly girl who was rubbing her eyes and sitting up.
"Located on a hillside outside the three peaks of the hot spring hotel."
Hikari yawned slightly and answered softly, her clear eyes half-open and half-closed: "I originally wanted to go further, but the mountain peak blocking the way was not easy to climb, and I just happened to find a cave nearby that was not covered in snow, so I stopped here."
Did you encounter any problems on the way?
Its tail seemed to sway slightly twice, but when it turned its head, it obediently lowered its head again, with only the tip slightly curled up.
Annie and Ian slept at opposite ends of the campfire, covered with thin blankets and then piled on top of them with fluffy coats, apparently to prevent them from being woken up by the cold air when they moved.
Shen Xue's figure was no longer in sight, but the faint fragrance of her body lingered in the surroundings. If I'm not mistaken, she had gone to patrol and keep watch nearby.
I thought for a moment, and before Hikari could answer, I added, "Have you had a proper dinner?"
The little fool paused for a moment while stroking my back, and then a faint smile appeared on her face: "We didn't encounter any major problems. The Pegasus' flying skills are excellent. This time we didn't encounter any magical turbulence, nor did we encounter any Rocs that would relentlessly chase us. Thanks to Miss Miyuki, we also got plenty of energy for dinner."
She paused, reached into her pocket and rummaged around for a while, pulling out a pot of still-warm meat broth. She poured it into a bowl she had taken along the way, placed it on a cutting board, and gently pushed it in front of me: "This is for Mr. Yumi. Although we had some apples to stave off hunger before, so much time has passed, and there's only a little bit."
"Of course, not eating all night can upset your stomach, but eating too much can also be a burden, so how about eating a little less? By the way, would you like it heated up again?"
I shook my head, thanked her for her kindness, raised my paw and hesitated for a moment, then lowered my head again and tentatively stuck out my tongue.
There was still some lingering warmth, not scalding, but not completely cool either; it was just the right temperature for a cat. It seems Hikari had gone to great lengths to perfectly control and store the temperature.
The soup was sprinkled with chopped vegetable leaves and sliced mushrooms, and also contained a few wild fruits that had been deliberately crushed and had their juices seeping out. The stewed meat was of unknown origin, tender and slightly salty, with a few perilla leaves as a seasoning. Even after licking the bottom of the pot clean, it didn't feel greasy at all.
After fiddling with the empty bowl twice, I squatted down and looked up at Hikari, who was now fully awake.
"Mmm, you're eating very well, Mr. Yumi." The girl holding the fleece jacket smiled. "It seems this suits your taste."
I nodded, looked around, let out a soft meow, and strolled over to rub against her.
Slender, cool fingers traced the back of my head from front to back, bringing a subtle tingling sensation that instantly traveled from my tailbone to the back of my head.
"Would you like anything else to eat?" She looked at me and asked softly.
I thought about it for a moment, then shook my head.
Then, following the girl's palm that was flat on the ground, it climbed over her forearm, and after a few twists and turns, curled up into the soft, fluffy downy hair on her abdomen.
Suddenly I realized that being turned into a cat wasn't such a terrible thing after all.
"What are your plans for tomorrow?" I asked.
Hikari adjusted her position to make me more comfortable curled up: "It's nothing, I just thought that since we're here, we might as well travel around and see what's happening. We can't go north for the time being because of the beast tide, so let's head south."
"It just so happens that the places everyone mentioned wanting to see are mostly located in the mountain ranges to the south, so let's head in that direction."
"Our only concern is that the map we have is too blurry. Right now, we can only barely determine our exact location by counting the number of hills we pass and the changes in elevation. But Ms. Miyuki reminded us that the terrain here has changed due to the snow, so it's uncertain whether we will be able to find our destination."
She yawned again.
I nodded slightly: "She's right. At times like this, instead of constantly searching the map, it's better to make judgments in a more practical and intuitive way. The archmages who came to clean up the mountains before also spent several years to successfully escape, so we don't need to be in such a hurry."
