Chapter 163 Some people can't even sleep peacefully

"It means exactly what it says."

Seeing that I stood there for a long time without answering, Shen Xue frowned slightly.

"If I remember correctly, I vaguely recall suggesting this to you before. But we were both busy and haven't been able to keep our promise."

I seem to have only a vague recollection of this matter.

“But…” I hesitated for a moment, then stretched out my paw, “Look, I’m just a cat now, I don’t even have fingers to hold a sword… and I don’t really like close combat with people.”

For a mage, there are only two situations in which close combat with a human will occur.

One type of player has the advantage and only needs to max out their buffs and power-ups before rushing in; the other type of player uses all their special moves but is at a disadvantage and is forced into close-quarters combat, a situation that is almost a death sentence.

Neither of these is the ideal combat state.

Not to mention the possibility of the former going wrong, where the local authorities might suddenly pull out some tricks or suddenly recall something from the past and have a sudden burst of energy, the latter is even more about facing life-or-death situations at all times. The slightest carelessness can easily lead to losing one's life, and even if one is lucky enough to survive, one will inevitably suffer some trauma.

“Don’t you still have claws?” Miyuki replied matter-of-factly.

I leaned back dramatically.

No! I'm not a real cat! Do you expect me to have to transform and use my claw attack to get into close combat with people in the future? With my current small size, wouldn't the opponent just need to exert a little force, and the sheer power of their muscles would be enough to send me flying!

Fortunately, Miyuki understood that this was impossible. She casually wiped a patch of ground clean, sat down cross-legged, and naturally drew her sword to deal with the prey: "I've thought about it, and this is indeed a bit difficult for you. It would be better to proceed step by step and start learning from the basics."

"Foundations, what do you mean?"

I can also do some simple sword swings and thrusts. The prerequisite for successfully engaging the enemy without panicking is being familiar with basic moves and routines. Although most of it is just theoretical experience and some fancy moves, it's still better than knowing nothing at all.

But I had a vague feeling that for Miyuki, the basics might not be such a simple thing.

The answer was quickly revealed: "Based on my training regimen in my childhood, I usually ran ten laps around the city every day, swung my sword a thousand times, did a thousand push-ups, and a thousand squats. After getting used to that, I would do five sets of sparring. However, considering that mages are usually physically weaker, the requirements for you can be halved."

"That's too much!"

I almost jumped up from the ground.

Miyuki said nonchalantly, "This is only the amount of practice for the first half. I'll temporarily take over the second half for you, so you don't need to worry about it for the time being."

"Well……"

I looked at Miyuki sitting to the side again.

Although I have experienced her from many aspects—strength, appetite, perseverance, or even her beliefs and personal principles—the icy female swordswoman, revered as the [Frost Sword], is indeed not just a fabricated, artificial existence.

I exclaimed from the bottom of my heart, "You are truly amazing."

My hand paused slightly, and Miyuki turned half her body slightly, staring at me for a few seconds before suddenly smiling: "Thank you."

"Although sometimes we get stuck on certain things, we have enough strength to forge our own path."

"Then it's not called a dead end."

"He's a bit stern and can be quite cold to strangers."

“I disdain associating with idiots, you know that. Talking to those guys is a complete waste of breath and life.”

"Hmm...sometimes it can suddenly become very dangerous?"

She glanced at me again and said calmly, "That's the highest praise for a sword whose life is dedicated to being wielded. Of course, if possible, I hope you can remove the qualifier 'sometimes' next time you describe it; that would be better."

Yes, that's a very Yuki-esque answer.

I readily agreed to the request and corrected my previous statement. I could clearly sense that the icy female swordsman, who usually didn't show much emotion when communicating with others, had slightly raised her spirits.

There were no further words spoken after that.

We sat side by side, with Miyuki deftly handling the frozen chunks of meat, while I, feeling a bit chilly, followed her signal and climbed up to the back of my neck, finding a warm, comfortable, and secure spot to squat down and gaze into the distance.

In the distance, the hazy sky suddenly brightened with a sliver of golden-red light. It was the rising sun breaking free from layers of clouds and leaping into the sky, casting its brilliant light upon the earth, illuminating all things and bringing vibrant life.

The clear chirping of birds rose and fell in the nearby grove. I raised one eye and looked into the distance. Birds with white necks and brown tails sang to each other in pairs. Occasionally, some would fly down to the branches nearby, tilt their heads to peek for a moment, and then flap their wings and fly away again.

I closed my eyes and perhaps dozed off for a while.

This time, I didn't fall into the world of the [Simulated Law Ring] again. I don't know if it's because I wasn't fully asleep or because of the previous attack.

In short, let's put this matter on hold for now.

When I woke up, I was still perfectly still in the same spot where I had fallen asleep, barely moving. My posture had changed from a squatting position to a round ball, and the sunlight overhead was warming my back. If it weren't for that, I would have thought that not much time had passed.

I carefully stood up, shook off the tuft of fur, and gently patted Shenxue's neck twice with my paw. In less than half a second, I received her reply: "Have you rested enough?"
