Chapter 169 In-depth
Based on the best-of-three pairing result, surprisingly, Annie, who wasn't particularly interested in the matter after the initial surprise, was the one who got to climb into the giant doll's body.
"Ah, I hate cramped, dark spaces... Wait! I... I have something else to say...!"
With a slightly resentful grumble, Annie was gently pushed by Hikari and reluctantly stepped into the soft inner cavity. When she saw Alice closing her up with a wicked smile, she panicked and tried to change her mind, but she had only managed to stick out half a palm before it was tightly sealed into the doll's body, which showed no signs of cracking.
The mischievous rabbit even pretended to burp: "Ah~ I'm so full~ My belly is completely filled, even to the very depths~"
I glanced at it sideways: "The tone you're using right now is likely to give people the wrong impression. We still have children here who haven't grown up yet, so I suggest you tone it down a bit."
"It's nothing, it's nothing~"
Alice tilted her head and began to comb the soft fur on her long ears.
It chuckled, its eyebrows curving upwards. It first glanced at the slightly disappointed boy beside it, then turned with a smile to the other side: "Anyway, those who can understand here are all adults. Real children still don't understand what we're saying~"
Hikari: "Huh? What are you talking about?"
I:"……"
There's no need to jump out and prove your innocence at times like this, our lovely little fool.
I sighed softly and twitched my ears again, hearing the multiple ringing sounds coming from below the shaft once more.
“It seems we’ve been delaying for too long,” I said.
"Hmph, but for us, it's actually just right now. At least now that everything is arranged, we have no worries."
Alice walked towards the shaft first, her wobbly, doll-like appearance making one worry that she might trip and fall: "Well then, I'll go down and wait for you all~"
"be safe."
After waiting for nearly five minutes, and estimating that Alice should have moved far away from the landing point opposite the shaft, I jumped back onto Hikari's shoulder and turned to signal Aian to follow.
Let the wind carry us, like feathers!
The sentences were exactly the same as before, but while reciting them, they were also repeated in parallel in the mind.
Compared to when I cast it in [Simulated Magic Ring], I can now mobilize more magic power, even in my cat form.
However, to support two people who are conceptually unconnected, the Featherfall spell now being cast is more than twice as difficult as it was before, even though it is just a simple minor spell. This is not only reflected in the repetition of the spell, but also in the magical power flowing from within oneself, which has increased to nearly three times the amount.
Fortunately, the total amount of magic required by the Featherfall spell itself isn't too high, and even with the use of parallel chanting techniques, it's still within my manageable range. Otherwise, in my current state, anyone would feel numb and decide to abandon the adventure and head back the way they came.
The shaft is much deeper than we initially imagined.
It was like diving from the surface of the sea into the deep at night, the bright, earthly light gradually fading away. The deep black darkness swayed beneath my feet, like a lurking beast poised to devour me. In my ears came the final, shrill, piercing cry of air being compressed by an external force before bursting apart.
But these moments vanished in an instant, as if it were all just an illusion.
I looked up with some concern at Ai'an, who was trying her best to curl up to reduce the area of impact, and then peered towards the bottom of the shaft.
The blocked passage is like a long, narrow vacuum tube, and we are merely insects that have strayed into it, only able to repeatedly pray and ask questions before reaching the exit:
How much time has passed? How much longer until we reach the exit? Does an exit even exist?
In the end, even time and self-awareness will slowly dissolve in this unchanging, closed passage. You can only rely on the occasional collisions and interactions between yourself and the cave walls to barely make a judgment, and you will find that you have passed through another slightly winding bend.
Then, after what felt like an eternity, whether a century or a second had passed, we finally arrived at the exit at the other end of the shaft.
First, the gleaming cave walls on both sides suddenly disappeared, followed by a slight feeling of being suspended in mid-air, and the clear sound of water ripples coming from beneath my feet. By the time my drowsy brain was suddenly jolted awake from its slumber, the effect of the Featherfall spell had reached its end. After a gentle collision between my body and the water's surface, a tiny splash of water was created, which then quickly subsided.
"Cough! Pfft, haha!"
After choking on several mouthfuls of water, Hikari quickly found me, who was balancing in the water. She swiftly pulled me into her arms from underwater, lifted me onto her shoulder with one hand, and used the other hand to paddle along the surface of the water, moving with extraordinary speed and agility toward the nearest protruding rock.
After struggling to climb onto the rock, she sat down to catch her breath and unconsciously reached out to pull off the clothes that were stuck to her body after being soaked.
"You're showing too much skin like that."
I was too embarrassed to look directly at her, so I jumped off her shoulder, gently landed a little further away, shook my fur, and then raised my paw towards the direction I thought should be the little idiot, stretching out my paw with its soft paw pads.
