Chapter 173 We must pass by quietly
To be honest, days spent simply traveling can be a bit monotonous.
All around were slightly altered trees and the same old snow-capped mountain scenery. At first, I was interested in taking a second look, but I quickly grew tired of it.
Occasionally, some less intelligent animals would roam around, or predators would target our migrating caravan and launch an attack, after which it would be a monotonous journey of travel and hunting.
Although we could take a short break when we passed by the river, it was never as relaxing as staying at the hot spring cabin, and there was no more fun.
The only good news for me is that I've finally escaped the forced transformation state.
I don't know if it was because I was far away from the sky or because of other factors, but at one point, I followed my intuition and had a sudden idea to try to remove the spell attached to my body. Surprisingly, I succeeded and returned to my familiar body instead of having to spend my days as a cat.
My body, which I hadn't used in a long time, felt a little unfamiliar, but it wasn't out of control yet. I simply let the magic circulate through my body once, and after testing the control of the power, it returned to my grasp.
Although Hikari seemed a little sad at first, she later showed a genuinely joyful smile.
"At least this way, Mr. Yumi can better protect himself, right?"
I smiled and patted the little rascal's head as he leaned in, letting his soft hair gently brush against my palm.
Then, a black-haired girl who happened to be passing by saw this and suddenly came over and lay down in my arms.
I:"……?"
Why do you only touch hers and not mine?
Seeing that I remained frozen in place, Annie picked up my left hand, pressed it against her head, closed her eyes, and urged, "Hurry up."
Is this child serious?
Despite my thoughts, I ultimately followed the girl's instructions and gently stroked her.
Then I heard a soft, delicate moan coming from under my hands.
"Stop working, stop working! Don't be lazy!"
It's alright, looks like she really likes it.
Could it be that I'm being used as a tool for patting heads?
But the girl's hair quality is also excellent.
Although not as soft as Hikari's hair, and slightly stiffer with coarser strands, it is surprisingly smooth and has an unusual feel, as if you are touching fine silk, making you reluctant to let go.
Seeing this, Hikari, who was about to get up and leave, froze in place and then leaned even closer to her.
I always felt that this little idiot had developed an unnecessary competitive spirit.
"...Your relationship is so complicated. Is it really okay to do this?"
Seeing this, Miyuki, who was passing by with her bowl and chopsticks, showed a hint of complexity on her usually aloof face: "But... is it really that comfortable?"
"I don't know either." I shrugged.
I watched her stride towards me with her long, slender legs.
Just when I thought she also wanted someone to touch her hair, I suddenly felt something gently land on my head. After a brief hesitation, I gently rubbed it from side to side.
"Ah, so that's what it feels like."
Her icy blue eyes calmly analyzed, "Soft and fragile, just like the feeling of stroking a cat's back before. My mood instantly became much calmer. If I could touch it from time to time, I might be able to fully comprehend the [Mirror of Still Water] realm that the Sword Saint taught me."
...It's alright, but I'm not a cat anymore!
I leaned back sharply to avoid the outstretched hand, and only then did I see Shen Xue slowly withdraw her hand with a look of reminiscence and longing.
I never expected this woman to have this kind of personality.
“Speaking of which,” Miyuki said, gathering her robes and sitting down on the left, “would you like to stretch your muscles a bit after all this time? You’ve been like that for so long, you must be itching to get moving, right?”
"...It's alright, but what you said is quite ambiguous. Besides, I'm not really interested in fighting."
I prefer this leisurely life, where I can just quietly waste time.
Miyuki raised an eyebrow: "But didn't you look like you suddenly realized something?"
Damn it, is this what you call a martial artist? His intuition and observation skills are just too sharp.
Indeed, I had been troubled by the forced transformation technique for a long time and had been searching for a way to break it without success, but that doesn’t mean I didn’t benefit from it at all.
At the most basic level, my ability to control my body in the transformation state has improved significantly. My attempts to analyze and deconstruct this technique over the past period of time have also enhanced my understanding of its essence.
A further manifestation of this is that I can now try to transform a part of my limbs into the state of the animal I want, or gain corresponding abilities without changing my appearance.
When gazing into the distance, I can summon the eyes of an eagle; when running at high speed, I can add the speed of a cheetah; when jumping high, I can try to imitate a rabbit; when moving stealthily, I can learn the agility of a cat... This expansion of abilities is enough to give me a better chance of survival in some complex environments.
However, these are all superficial skills, far less than what Miyuki has recently gained. If I were to face this guy at his full strength, I might end up with some physical injuries.
"It's okay, I'll be very gentle."
As she spoke, she picked up her sword and stood up. The two girls who had been huddled together immediately moved aside upon seeing this. Even Ai An, who had been silent all along, quietly approached from a distance, casting an expectant glance at the impending battle.
