Chapter 179 Division of Labor and Cooperation

Chapter 179 Division of Labor and Cooperation

The tug-of-war between Deep Snow and Bone Dragon continues.

No need for excessive embellishment; this is simply a race against time, and we'll see who gives up first.

Although we do have the option of turning around and running away immediately, we cannot gamble without thinking that the bone dragon that has its eyes on us will continue in this state, or that after a long recovery, it will encounter a low-probability accident that will completely forget about us.

If the bones that were severed beyond repair are restored with the help of the bone dragon legions they control, and if they still deeply remember the humiliation we brought upon them, then what awaits us is undoubtedly an endless, one-sided pursuit.

Not everyone can be like those mentioned in the legends, who, even when facing numerous life-threatening situations, can still find ways to succeed, constantly break through barriers, and even grow stronger with each passing year, ultimately using various mysterious opportunities to successfully turn the tables and kill their enemies.

Human life is usually only once. Even mages who can repeatedly seek opportunities for resurrection will one day encounter misfortune and have to die tragically.

"No matter what, we must stop the bone dragon from recovering first."

I made up my mind and used the little magic I had just recovered to summon fireballs and lightning, which I then hurled down upon the dense army of bone dragons below.

The massive clump of rocks, trailing a fiery red tail, hurtled down with a whooshing sound. Although it was just a casual attack, it was enough for the already fragile Bone Dragon Legion.

The shattered earth was once again devastated. Large swathes of forest with serrated leaves disappeared, and the few remaining trees swayed precariously in this apocalyptic scene, exposing their roots.

With a roar, the severely wounded bone dragon raised its head to the sky once more, before being struck on the spine by a [Frost Sword] that leaped onto the back of its neck, freezing it into a ring of icy spikes.

Compared to the beginning, the eerie blue flames on the bone dragon's body have dimmed considerably, and its form has become increasingly distorted due to its forceful absorption of external objects.

Ignoring the damage this would cause to their hard-won union, the bone dragon shook its head and body violently, slamming it against the nearby mountain wall.

The glistening fragments of bone spiraled and flew to the edge of sight, carving out a large clearing. Another mountain peak was smashed into a huge crater with a deafening roar. The damaged terrain and the tremors triggered a howling avalanche, which thundered down from top to bottom, burying everything that could not escape within it.

Shen Xue, who escaped by leaping back through the transparent ice, frowned deeply once again, squinting as she gazed at the bone dragon's body, which was rapidly covered by grayish-white snow.

The manipulated bone dragon legion had been mostly wiped out, yet it still surged into the snow waves oblivious to the danger. Even as it was pushed and shattered by the immense kinetic energy, it continued to crawl toward its target without regard for anything else.

"It bought us some time."

[Frost Sword] clicked his tongue in dissatisfaction and turned to look at me: "Hey, have you found where the core is?"

I shook my head, and [Frostsword]'s expression became even more dissatisfied.

"But I have a new idea."

I stopped her from complaining and continued, "Although we can't find the location of the core, we can keep weakening it until it exposes itself."

"...What nonsense are you talking about? If this stalemate continues, we're more likely to be the ones who can't take it anymore!"

[Frost Sword] could no longer contain his heaving chest, and his body was covered in streams of sweat. His panting appearance was particularly convincing.

But I wasn't just making things up: "It won't take long, because I just thought about it and realized that we actually have ways to control it."

As I spoke, I reached out and patted Hikari, who had been sitting quietly in front of me.

Hikari stared blankly at the avalanche below, seemingly not expecting to be suddenly lifted up. After I touched her, she jumped up and down with a "yah" sound. She quickly realized that she was still sitting on the back of the Pegasus hovering in mid-air. She straightened her back slightly, her cheeks flushed, and turned her head to look at me.

However, what attracted my attention more at this moment was the transparent magic ring that was floating above the back of Hikari's head and was slightly shimmering.

I didn't notice it when I was injured, but now that the wounds have healed and we've been in close contact for so long, even if I'm slow to react, I can still sense a faint, familiar presence.

I don't know much about what exactly produces this aura, so I can't give an accurate description. But if I were to draw an analogy with something I've felt recently, the only option would be the special attack that Sister Lena launched in my little garden a few months ago to drive away that unknown scoundrel.

I vividly remember the description of the big sister who transformed herself into a turret launcher and base as "Holy Attribute Transformation"?

This was clearly a field I had never been exposed to before, and after that, I was unable to get a clear answer from either the boss or Yao.

Judging from the few words they vaguely revealed, it seemed to involve some secret, forbidden matter known to few, so I wisely chose to stop asking questions.

However, if the magic ring that Hikari possesses truly represents a power similar to that capable of repelling the power of the abyss, then we are not entirely without a way to deal with this troublesome bone dragon.

I quickly explained my thoughts to Hikari, and the little idiot listened and nodded. Finally, after hesitating for a long time, she shyly and tremblingly raised her hand and asked, "So, you mean I have to emit that kind of light again, like before?"
