Chapter 187 Heading towards the southern end of the mountain range

In the end, I only left a faint mark on the girl's delicate fingertips as a warning.

Although Annie repeatedly gestured that she could bite harder so that she could feel the pain I was experiencing, I ultimately did not do so.

Forget it, she didn't mean it. A little punishment is enough. There's no need to throw such a tantrum. Otherwise, she'll feel wronged again and it will be hard to appease her.

In this desolate wilderness, if someone gets angry and runs away on their own, I'll have to worry about chasing after them, which will not only waste my time but could also lead to danger. There's no need to make things more complicated for myself than to live a comfortable life.

I gently stroked the cat, who was nestled obediently in my arms licking its wounds, with my uninjured hand. I smiled as I watched the tiny tongue protruding from its colorful head smear with a splash of bright red. I picked it up and held it close, then lifted the curtain and stepped outside.

Then he almost bumped into Hikari who was walking towards him.

"ah!"

I quickly gathered the bowls and dishes in my hands, thankfully preventing any soup from spilling. Hikari looked up at me with her rosy cheeks and smiling eyes, saying, "Good morning, Mr. Yumi. Did you sleep well last night? I just made breakfast and was thinking of bringing it to you."

Good morning, Hikari.

I nodded and looked curiously at the ingredients she was holding.

The tender, simmered meat, cooked until pink and mushy, emerges peacefully from the water, a mere glimpse of its simmering perfection. Sliced white mushrooms and a few green leaves adorn the side, while a touch of spices are sprinkled on top of the thinly sliced meat arranged in a flower shape. Cabbage stems and quail eggs, served as garnish, are drizzled with a little sauce. Just the aroma alone is enough to make your mouth water.

After thanking Hikari for her hard work, I took the plate and bowl, walked to the small table that had been set up not far away, sat down, and began to enjoy the food: "Did you hunt for new ingredients today?"

The little fool nodded gently, peeked behind me, a hint of understanding flashed across his face, and then quickly looked away: "Yes, this morning Sister An and Miss Shenxue went hunting in the forest. They said they brought back a wild boar and a large deer. When I got up, I happened to see them already butchered and waiting to be cooked."

These two girls are really something, one more fierce than the other.

I shook my head, casually swatted away the hand that reached out from my shoulder to aim at the slice of meat, and forked a piece into my mouth, chewing slowly.

Compared to the fresh and tender wild boar meat, the venison is not as juicy and flavorful, and its aroma is noticeably less. However, it seems to be intentional, as the slightly charred marks on the outer edge enrich its texture and flavor. Combined with the secret sauce drizzled on the side, it has a unique taste.

"Hey! This is so delicious, are you trying to eat it all by yourself?!" came a disgruntled shout from behind. "I haven't even had time to eat yet because I was trying to catch you!"

"You haven't eaten yet?"

I turned around somewhat in surprise, and casually put another small slice of thinly sliced venison into my mouth.

Even before Hikari glanced behind me, I had already noticed Annie tiptoeing out behind me.

This girl actually thought I hadn't noticed her, and she was hiding behind me, secretly exchanging glances and gestures with Hikari.

Little did I know that she herself had already entered my perception range, and her interaction with the clueless little fool who wasn't very good at acting also gave her away. I pretended not to know and continued my conversation with Hikari as usual, while also seeing what this girl was up to.

Then came the moment when I "just in time" reached out and slapped away her hand that was trying to steal the slice of meat.

Hikari watched all this, then chuckled. Seeing that we were all looking at her, she quickly waved her hand and stood up, saying, "It's alright, Annie, I made sure to prepare your share."

She ran off for a moment, then ladled out a bowl of soup from the pot on the campfire not far away. She returned with half a plate of venison and neatly placed it in front of the eagerly waiting Anne.

"As expected, the sweet and soft Hikari is the best, unlike some unromantic blockhead... Waaah."

Anne rubbed against Hikari's soft waist for a while, then quickly sat down at the table, her eyes gleaming as she picked up her knife and fork.

Then the food quickly vanished in Annie's whirlwind.

Honestly, the way she ate made me subconsciously wonder whether the creature residing in that petite body was Anne herself, or the gray wolf she was commanding.

They ate like ferocious beasts!

I watched in shock as this scene unfolded, and then, the instant the girl reached out to me again, I quickly took away the plate I hadn't finished eating.

"No, you look like you haven't eaten for eight or ten days! You can't be that hungry!"

"Can't it taste good?!" Annie retorted, dissatisfied.

"Sure, sure, the pot's over there, you can catch it."

I nodded hastily, then watched Annie's figure disappear into the distance. After downing a full bowl of soup, I slowly and contentedly walked back.

I'm full!

As Annie spoke, she threw herself back onto the stool, but she didn't realize she had pulled back and almost fell to the ground.

Hikari smiled and started clearing away the dishes before going off to do something else.

"What's wrong with you today?" Bored after being stopped from doing my work, I sat back down and looked at Annie across from me, resting my chin on my hand. "I've been going crazy since this morning... I'm usually not very reliable, but today it's especially bad."
