The quiet, dimly lit corridor shed its somber veil under the flickering firelight. A section of the long corridor was shrouded in moonlight, casting a soft, silvery glow on the potted plants in the windows.
I looked around for a while, slowed down, and followed the direction I sensed to confirm the presence of stairs.
I shouldn't disturb those who had finally fallen asleep, nor could I talk to the survivors I wasn't very familiar with. Only three familiar people were still awake: one was swinging barefoot in the lobby downstairs, one was standing on a high point of the building with a sword in his arms, and the other was quietly curled up on the fourth-floor balcony, hugging his knees and observing the distance.
Sheng, Jian Gui, and Xiao Xi.
I don't want to bother Sheng for the time being, but that goes against Jian Gui's temper. I guess I can only go to Xiao Xi and hope she won't mind my sudden late-night rambling.
Then, before I could take a few steps, a sudden wave appeared not far behind me, and then it leaped closer in an instant.
This startled me immediately, and I instinctively made a move to prepare for an attack, but I quickly froze in place.
My back felt slightly heavy, and my waist was encircled by something slender, followed by a sticky feeling from my wet back.
It took me a second, and then I used my senses to scan the area repeatedly, before I finally realized that it was Sheng, whom I had previously assumed was still walking barefoot in the lobby on the first floor, who had suddenly appeared behind me, lying on my back and quietly shedding tears.
This made me feel somewhat embarrassed and at a loss.
To be honest, are the people around me generally more prone to tears lately? Why do so many of them seem to cry all the time? I'm collecting their tears, bottling them up, and sealing them. Maybe I can use them to make fun of them later...
Okay, that was a bit unethical, I apologize.
I waited until Sheng stopped crying and heard him take a deep breath and finally loosen his arms around my waist before I carefully turned around and looked at him.
She still looks the same as before, with her hair tied in a ponytail and wearing a loose shirt, in a neutral style.
She has indeed lost weight.
I looked him up and down, just as he looked me up and down, making sure he wasn't showing any overtly negative emotions before I cautiously opened my mouth and greeted him, "Long time no see, Sheng. I'm back."
He took a small breath, closed his eyes briefly, and exhaled, revealing a smile: "Welcome back, Brother Uriel."
