Chapter 216 Emergency Rescue

Chapter 216 Emergency Rescue

The oxcart was being driven, stumbling and lurching through the snow-covered woodland, with a huge brown figure close behind.

The driver of the oxcart cried out in panic, his body swaying from side to side as the oxcart, riddled with numerous damages, wobbled precariously. It was clear at a glance that he was not a skilled driver.

Even judging from the fact that we just heard the cries for help, the chase must have happened not too long ago.

What a coincidence.

Thoughts flashed through my mind like lightning, and after exchanging a glance, I and Alice Miyuki confirmed each other's ideas.

The next moment, I reached out and summoned the Thunder Spear, while Miyuki and Alice leaped out at lightning speed, each taking turns to intercept the ramming oxcart and block the brown bear's path.

Lightning and sword energy erupted simultaneously, and before the giant brown bear could react, it was pierced through by the rapid attack from both sides. Its massive body flew into the air due to inertia, and then, unable to withstand the force, it tore into three pieces in mid-air, exploding into a cloud of blood mist.

I don't know how Alice did it, but almost in a flash and a step back, she reappeared beside me, looking refreshed and energetic. She showed no signs of fatigue after coming out, and there wasn't even a trace of blood on her body.

Meanwhile, on the other side, Shen Xue, who had lost her mind and was only recklessly crashing into the oxcart, had also completed her assigned part.

She seemed to be applying force with her feet while sprinting, causing a shallow burst of air to propel her forward from the point of impact.

Almost instantly, the snow froze into large, icy blue crystals, which then transformed into a rapidly rising, curved ice wall that perfectly blocked the road ahead. The oxen driving the cart climbed up the wall, and after reaching a certain height, they had no choice but to slide down.

The car behind, whose reins had been broken early on, was frozen in place by the spreading icicles, remaining intact as much as possible. The driver, who was screaming with his eyes closed, was caught by the back of his neck by Shen Xue just before he fell forward and landed on the ground, and was thrown into a soft snowdrift next to him.

Well... okay, anyway, it seems like this crisis is finally over.

Thinking this, I slowly walked over to meet him, and from afar I saw the driver struggling to crawl out of the snowdrift. After quickly glancing over the surrounding carnage, he knelt down with a thud at the foot of the deep snow, closed his eyes and cried out, "This, this righteous person who came to my rescue, please save my family!"

"...What happened? Explain in detail."

A distinctively cold and aloof voice came through.

The person pleading for help didn't bother to examine the speaker's expression and emotions, continuing to loudly plead: "My family and I came out of the village seeking medical help, but on the way we not only encountered heavy snow blocking the road, but we were also spotted by a den of giant bears that had woken up early to hunt for food. My parents split up and took another road to distract most of the bears, but I was chased by this big guy all the way, and my little sister, who had fallen ill, was thrown off and is still missing. Please, please save them!"

As he spoke, he pointed back the way he had come, tears streaming down his face, mingling with the sweat on his brow, instantly forming two icicles on his rough, reddened face, frozen by the wind and snow.

"...You've probably heard it too, that's how it is."

The silent Shenxue turned to look at us and spread her hands: "My hometown is a place with a very bad surrounding environment."

“Whether it’s bad or comfortable, we’re not here for a vacation,” I shrugged. “Besides, you know the area better than we do. So this time it’s your decision.”

Alice, who was standing nearby, nodded in agreement.

The place this person seeking help wants us to go is clearly the opposite of our goal.

Whether we decided to help or ignored his request and turned to leave, in any case, among the three-person team, only Miyuki knew the way out of this forest. As for Alice and me, although we could get out, we would inevitably encounter a lot of trouble.

Miyuki remained silent for a few more seconds. I noticed that her right hand, which was resting on the hilt of her sword, opened and closed repeatedly, before suddenly clenching it and stepping to the side.

"It seems she has made her decision."

Alice walked forward with a smile, then suddenly raised an eyebrow, turned back to find me, and said, "Come here quickly, don't keep people waiting."

"I'm just walking," I was about to complain when I suddenly noticed Alice reach out and touch something, and my vision immediately became blurry.

Upon closer inspection, I realized that she had simply wrapped her arms around my waist and was holding me horizontally beside her, like a large sandbag.

"No, why would you suddenly do something like this!"

“Because it’s faster this way!” Alice blinked. “Don’t move! Stay still. I’m going to speed up!”

As soon as the words were spoken, the white snow that had been distinct and layered underfoot was suddenly stretched into a single, monochromatic straight line. The only way to tell that they were moving at a rapid pace was by the color of the tree trunks that flashed by on both sides and the light golden vapor that flowed out from the side.

I was so scared I almost froze! I didn't even move!

Can you imagine being surrounded by dense, unevenly distributed trees, and recklessly running through the woods, with the constant possibility of crashing into a tree trunk at any moment? I even noticed several times that the thick brown tree trunks and protruding gray rocks narrowly missed my face, limbs, and under my body, by mere millimeters. If I had made even the slightest movement along the way, the consequences would have been far more than just a minor injury!
