As the woman slowly opened her eyes, a pair of eyes with only a few light gray irises and dark whites suddenly appeared before my eyes.
I was immediately startled and couldn't help but step back a little, but I didn't realize that the movement was too sudden and stimulated my brain, which was not yet fully recovered from the headache. I felt a rush of blood to my head and then a blackout.
No, perhaps this isn't just my imagination.
The dark color that had stained the whites of the blind saint's eyes was like a soft, gelatinous substance with some kind of life force, which suddenly and slowly detached from her eyes and seeped out, overflowing onto my bed. In an instant, it spread into a thin layer, encroaching on the boundaries of my vision and suddenly closing the distance.
It felt like being caught in a net or being hit in the face with a piece of dark black paper. Although there was no sharp pain in my nose and face, my eyes still felt a burning pain.
I wanted to open my mouth and shout, to ask a question, but I unexpectedly found that I could not find the place where my mouth should be; I wanted to wave my arms and move my feet, but I was shocked and realized that I had lost control of my body; I tried to blink to dispel the deep discomfort in my eyes, but no matter how I tried, my eyelids seemed to be supported by something inexplicable, and showed no sign of wanting to close.
What exactly happened?
Although I wanted to ask that question, there was no one around to communicate with, nor could I find someone like the blind saintess who could easily know and respond to my thoughts even without me asking.
Where am I now?
No matter which way I looked, all I saw was endless darkness... No, I don't even know if I actually did what I thought I was doing, looking around, or if, like before, I was just keeping my eyes closed and never opening them!
I tried to imagine what it would be like to open my eyes, and surprisingly, the darkness in front of me did indeed show signs of gradually fading.
However, this is different from the physical sensation of opening your eyes on a normal day.
It's as if I'm observing everything around me from another person's perspective, or floating lightly to the side, aimlessly exploring my surroundings.
Moreover, the scene before me now is not the temporary bedroom I was in just moments ago.
It was probably a road paved with pure white marble, with gold and rubies inlaid along the edges, and then encased in glass and forcibly compacted. However, the supposedly clean and tidy brick road inexplicably broke and cracked, and from the cracks flowed a burning crimson river.
The collapsed buildings lay sprawled at both ends of the road, with falling stones raining down from above, while flames leaped eagerly above them.
The fire seemed to possess a real life force, its crimson core encased in a golden shell. Even with people nearby bringing buckets of water to pour on it, they couldn't completely extinguish it, and it even spread and engulfed the nearby buildings. On the contrary, if anyone were to be touched by the fire, even for a moment, they would immediately face annihilation.
What does the scenery I am seeing now really mean?
Confused, I tried looking around. This time, the perspective did indeed change according to my thoughts, but I still couldn't make any further intervention.
I looked into the distance and saw the tall city walls collapsing silently, while scorching golden-red flames shot straight into the sky from the horizon, which was obscured by the heavily tilted and collapsed buildings. They struck a huge, swirling rhomboid crystal and exploded into sparks and stone chips that flew all over the city along the contact point and the cut surface.
Until a certain moment, even the rapidly spinning rhomboid polyhedron, which seemed to be trying to dissipate this enormous energy, could no longer bear it. Cracks began to appear from the bottom, which had been scorched red, and the broken marks quickly spread to the surface of the entire crystal, scattering it into a handful of glittering mist, which fell in all directions with lively sparks.
The tremors came again from above and below. The fragile shell shattered, and the tremors, mixed with wind, snow and falling rocks, descended upon this small sanctuary that had always carefully protected the mountain's shell.
In the blink of an eye, darkness once again filled the world before my eyes, and then a faint gray veil covered the outline of my vision.
Then the clips flashed by very quickly:
— People with rotting bodies and blackened, prominent veins open their mouths and wail silently, wandering in deserted streets and alleys or desolate wilderness. As soon as they discover that there are still living people around, they rush towards them, black blood tears flowing from their eyes, as if begging for release.
—The forest-green plants twine around the ruins, clinging to the bodies of people and animals. When they lie dormant, they bloom with beautiful flowers, emitting an alluring honey fragrance. As soon as any living thing approaches, they immediately extend their roots to entwine it, turning it into nutrients for future growth.
A colossal dragon swam amidst the waves, occasionally raising its head to survey its surroundings. Inky liquid would occasionally spill from its body, polluting everything around it with an aura of death. Whenever it swung its tail, chaotic vortexes would spontaneously form, coiling around its enormous scales, while its sharp horns would ram forward, crushing anything in its path.
The urgent wind came from the west, sharp as a palette knife, flattening the mountain ridges, carving away the snow-capped peaks, and stripping the earth of all other colors, leaving it covered only by the sweeping, crimson sand. Finally, as if tired of it all, even the crimson sand vanished, leaving only vast stretches of dry, cracked yellow earth. Upon closer inspection, it seemed that some tiny creature lurked within, its wings fluttering as it soared thousands of miles away.
