Chapter 232 Adjustment

Just as the saintess, sitting not far away, was carefully choosing her words, wanting to continue telling me something, the door to the room was suddenly pushed open from the outside.

Because the door happened to be not far behind the saintess, I subconsciously frowned and turned my gaze away, wanting to confirm the face of the person who had acted so recklessly.

Unless there are special circumstances, it is extremely impolite to trespass into a room that is a private space without confirming the condition of the room and obtaining the consent of the people inside.

I intended to refute the other party's behavior with these words, but the words just reached my throat and suddenly got stuck on the tip of my tongue, making it difficult to utter them.

My body stiffened involuntarily, and my eyes widened involuntarily as if something was stuck in them, making it difficult to move them freely.

Without a doubt, the visitor was neither Miyuki nor Alice.

It was a thin, young, and unfamiliar man wearing a floor-length robe.

Surprisingly, I sensed a vaguely familiar aura emanating from that man.

Perhaps it was because the strangeness here was too obvious, or perhaps it was the strange noise that suddenly came from the doorway and the sudden silence that fell inside that caught her attention. The saintess, who was sitting not far away, stopped speaking before she could finish. She hesitated and turned to face behind her, then revealed an expression as if she had just woken up from a dream.

"Ah, you're back."

She greeted them softly and hurriedly got up.

It seems to be someone I know.

The tone of voice was also very intimate, not like that of someone treating a patient, but more like that of a family member who had suddenly returned home.

The only thing that remains unclear is how she managed to identify the person standing in front of her.

However, this is no longer a big deal. Judging from the current situation, I can barely accept her statement that she "saw it."

The man who suddenly opened the door and walked in opened his mouth as if he wanted to say something, but after noticing my presence, he abruptly changed his open mouth and fiercely closed it, like a hyena about to tear off the flesh of its prey. I could even vaguely hear the sound of blood spurting out as the tip of his tongue was bitten.

I keenly sensed the dissatisfaction and a hint of malice in the air. Although I didn't know the specific source of this malice, I could clearly perceive that the man in front of me was not treating me well.

Could it be that he's related to the saintess and, after seeing what just happened, mistakenly thought we were having a secret rendezvous?

I was amused by the idea that suddenly popped into my head.

Not to mention that there were quite a few male patients in this small house, aside from that one time I rested my head on her lap when I first woke up, I almost never had any further contact with the blind saintess. I couldn't very well say something like, "Just breathing the same air as you makes me feel like my internal organs are being contaminated," could I?

That's no longer just a matter of overthinking; it's an explosive buildup of distrust and possessiveness that eventually twists into intense paranoia.

Fortunately, that ominous feeling only lasted for a brief moment.

The man, who stood straight like a pine tree beside the closed door, quickly suppressed his hostility and spoke softly to the saintess, who was leaning on a cane placed to the side and walking quickly towards him. He even held one hand protectively in a semi-circle, as if to prevent the woman from falling.

A subtle fluctuation lingered around the two of them. Although their lips could be seen moving rapidly from the side, it was miraculously impossible to hear a sound. It seemed more like they were drawing upon their own magic power rather than using some kind of magical artifact, forcibly creating a small, closed ring around them to prevent sound leakage.

That's a truly superb level of control over magic.

I was initially impressed, but then I immediately became alert.

Given the precedent, no matter how you look at it, the man in front of him doesn't seem like a wild mage with little spellcasting experience. Instead, he seems more like a practical fighter from a wealthy environment, capable and skilled, with a certain level of counter-surveillance awareness.

However, I couldn't detect much of an academic influence in him, nor had I ever heard of such a person among the mages who were sent to the north and have been out of contact ever since.

Although I couldn't memorize the entire list, I'm certain that at least the faces weren't familiar.

The vague familiarity I felt with him just now was probably because we had brushed past each other on the street one day, or because his face was too common.

I don't have a habit of prying into other people's privacy. Although I was quite concerned about their seemingly unsuccessful private conversation, I still didn't risk extending my senses into the blocked area. Admittedly, doing so would have allowed me to overhear their conversation without prior notice, but that would undoubtedly have triggered the senses of this highly skilled mage, thus angering him.

Although I am confident that I can defeat my opponent, I have a headache right now, and I am also very annoyed by the stares I feel from others. I want to protest but I can't make my voice heard, so I think I'll just close my eyes and rest for a while.

I adjusted my posture, pulled the blanket up over myself again, and let my body sink comfortably into the soft pillow, closing my eyes to rest.

Miyuki and Alice still haven't returned, and no one knows what they're doing. There's no trace of them nearby, and everything seems perfectly peaceful outside.

As long as they're not planning anything that would cause massive chaos, that's fine.
