Chapter 25 Departure

"So?"

"It's just what I think."

Shen Xue calmly recounted the story, her longsword humming as it leaped out of its sheath, swiftly piercing through the remaining few as if it were truly dancing. It ultimately passed precisely through the gap between me and Hikari, without touching a single thread of our sleeves, while pinning a flying eagle that attacked from behind to a tree trunk.

She glanced at my raised right hand, then proudly lifted her chin: "You can trust me completely, because I was the first to say that I would protect you and ensure your safe arrival at the Sacred Tree Fortress. Even if I am alone, you need not worry."

That really makes me feel safe.

I nodded and waved my hand to disperse the still-unformed spell in my hand.

"Do you need Hikari to help you heal?" Hikari raised her hand.

Miyuki hesitated for a few seconds, then nodded slightly: "Although I have prepared enough necessities... I will let you know in advance if I need anything. Please allow me to express my gratitude in advance."

Hikari was very pleased with the thank you and skipped and hopped for quite a distance, only to almost trip over the exposed vines on the road and fall flat on her face.

"Walk properly."

I casually chopped the idiot with a chop to the neck, and watched as she grabbed my hand and regained her balance.

As night fell, for safety and to get a good rest without being overly cautious, we moved back towards the main road.

By this time, groups of people had already formed along the roadside, neither too close nor too far apart. Most of them were mercenaries guarding the merchant caravan. Although their armor was stained with blood, they didn't look disheveled; instead, their expressions were full of energy and high spirits. In the clearing they had cleared in the middle, a lot of gathered firewood had already been piled up, and they were preparing to start a fire and cook—a busy scene indeed.

They also noticed our arrival. The leader glanced over a few times, sent someone over, and asked if we needed to join them. After receiving a refusal, he didn't say anything more and went back to his work.

"It's time to prepare dinner."

I clapped my hands to indicate that I had cleared a space with my sword wind. Shen Xue, who had put down her bundle, should not leave in a hurry, but instead look at me. Then she took out a neat set of pots and pans and fresh food from her pocket.

What's the principle behind this?

Miyuki's initial puzzled gaze instantly turned into one of utter astonishment.

Come to think of it, when I asked if they needed to store my package there, I got a negative answer. So they didn't know about this? I was wondering why, after leading us away from the crowd, the first thing they asked was, "Do you need to go and retrieve your belongings?"

"It's just a simple application of magic, a basic trick that every student from the academy can use."

I casually explained, suspending the soup pot in mid-air and patting a small water sphere inside, then igniting it to heat it: "However, compared to starting a fire and extracting clean water vapor from the air, storing objects in a hidden compartment requires a higher level of magical control. The slightest carelessness can easily lead to damage or breakage of the stored objects. Usually, people only gradually figure out the tricks around the time they reach their third year, and then maintain stability and duration."

"However, I happen to have some in-depth knowledge of this area, so it's easier for me to use."

As for why I find it easier to use, it's naturally because I've taken it a step further and unlocked one of its core research areas: [Miniature Garden Creation]. This has directly led to a significant improvement in my understanding of this prerequisite technology. As long as my magic power isn't completely depleted, I can maintain it for eternity, enough to go and have a magical duel with someone without any problem.

While waiting for Hikari to prepare the ingredients, a campfire was lit in the convoy in the distance, its bright, warm light flickering in the darkening night, illuminating the expectant faces.

“Mr. Yumi,” Hikari poured the prepared meat into the boiling pot, and then added a lot of vegetable leaves—these were monsters that had been killed by Miyuki earlier. They were originally transformed from ordinary wild beasts, and after being tested and confirmed to be safe, they were added to the menu. “I suddenly remembered that you also bought a lot of elemental stones, didn’t you? What are they for?”

"Wouldn't it be too much trouble if you had to keep the soup pot suspended and control the flame for a long time, multitasking? Isn't now the time to use them?"

This little idiot who's never been to school.

I sighed, paused, and then remembered this point. I couldn't bring myself to say those words that I used to use to criticize my classmate for being stupid. Instead, I patiently began to explain.
