"Simply put, how long should we wait before he wakes up?"
I understood the unspoken meaning in his words.
People who are knocked unconscious by a blow to the back of the neck usually need a long time to recover from the shock. Even after they regain consciousness, they may still feel somewhat dazed due to the injury.
However, Sheng suddenly shrugged and frankly declared, "No, it's probably because those guys are all laymen. This friend actually woke up just now, but perhaps he was pretending to be asleep because he didn't know what was going on."
We naturally turned our attention to the elf who lay motionless like a corpse, only to find that it remained completely still, just as before.
"Um... I don't really want to question it, but did he really wake up?"
The answer to Xiaoxi's puzzled question came from the Shadow Butterfly: "He woke up when Sheng was speaking. His breathing rate and heartbeat have clearly changed."
"Cough cough!"
At the very moment the words fell, the elf, who had been pretending to be as quiet as a corpse, immediately got up from where he stood, cowering and preparing to retreat, grabbing the tree wall that was blocking his way.
Seeing that the other party was about to escape by stepping on the tree wall, since Sheng was confident that he could openly reveal the fact that the other party had woken up, how could he not make preparations in advance? Moreover, even though this place was the home ground of the elves who lived here, for Sheng, the dungeon surrounded by many trees was a natural territory that had been prepared for him long ago.
Almost at the same moment the elf placed his hand on the green wall, the wriggling vines burst forth from the woven fabric, then quickly retreated and tightened after a dazzling display of weaving, firmly binding the elf's slender wrist to the wall, completely cutting off his ability to exert force or escape.
"Wow! What...what is this?! Let...let me go!"
A shocked, clear, boyish voice rang out sharply, but it couldn't compare to the volume of the chick's squawk. Under my control, it was completely blocked inside the soundproof membrane, and not a single sound escaped.
Sitting upright in the makeshift chair, with her hands resting on her crossed legs, Sheng smiled gently: "Don't worry, the guy who tried to do something to you has been dealt with, and we don't have any other needs for you, so there's no need to pretend to be so scared."
"Well, just to clarify, I know you're older than all of us here combined."
It was quite amusing to see the expressions of shock on the faces of the team members.
Since Sheng is willing to take the initiative to act as the dialogue partner, I am happy to just stand by and watch.
Once again exposed for her clumsy acting, the elf quickly wiped away the tears that were hanging from the corners of her eyes, and her expression returned to calm, flashing with wisdom as she looked at the people present: "What do you want from me?"
“No,” Sheng denied his question. “We just hope you won’t act too impulsively and cause unnecessary trouble.”
"I hope to have a conversation in which both of us are in a sincere and friendly state."
The elf silently observed us once again.
"I can't feel your sincerity."
He was silent for a moment, then tried to move his bound arms again: "Or is this your sincerity?"
Sheng smiled and snapped his fingers, and the vines binding the elf's arms quickly retracted, while a narrow table and round stool rapidly rose between the two of them and on the tree wall.
The elf sat down without hesitation and nodded gently: "I feel it now."
"But don't you care if I run away?"
“We have the best mages,” Sheng pointed to me, then to Xiaoxi, “and archers whose skills are on par with yours,” he concluded with a subtle glance at Shadow Butterfly, “and of course, the best assassins. Why do you think we need to worry about that?”
The assassin, having received the signal, quickly disappeared into the shadows, leaving almost no trace.
The emerald pupils trembled violently in the elf's eye sockets, finally regaining their composure with a sigh: "...You're right. With this team here, there's naturally no need to worry about me playing any tricks."
Upon receiving the praise, Sheng changed his tone: "But if I'm not mistaken, there should be some of your compatriots around here, right? Although it's not time for them to appear yet, if we leave for a while longer, we'll soon spot them wandering around. This is also your trump card for escaping."
The elf chuckled, her expression becoming even more relaxed: "Since you already know, then I have even less to worry about. In that case, do you want to make a deal with me?"
"We need to go to the tribe you established."
Without going through any further roundabout steps, after simply establishing a foundation of mutual trust, Sheng chose to play his hand directly: "This is not a decision made on the spur of the moment, but for some reasons, it is imperative to go."
"...I seem to hear similar requests quite often lately." The elf glanced back and forth a few more times, shook his head, and suddenly uttered an unexpected question, "Is it because of a quest?"
This really surprised us.
When I was communicating with Sheng in private before, I specifically asked him if the intelligent beings I would encounter in the dungeon would also have similar mandatory tasks. I was even worried that if their mandatory task was to protect the items that were the final reward and additional rewards, we might need to fight them.
