Chapter 259 Shortcut Continued

Under everyone's watchful eyes, Sheng quickly regained his composure and carefully explained his thoughts.

"Don't you all know what I'm capable of?"

Blinking his eyes, which shone with an inexplicable confidence, Sheng excitedly launched into a long explanation: "Since all the existing options have been eliminated, why don't we just choose the most suitable route ourselves and create our own shortcut?"

"What shortcuts should you take? What are you capable of doing?"

Sal, bewildered, looked at the people present and, in the midst of a swift show of hands, was swayed and led away by us in a daze.

...And so soon, we embarked on this route known as "the shortcut we created ourselves".

Although he was concerned about whether this would place too much burden on him, he could only watch from the sidelines with a vague sense of unease because the person involved was so excited to take on every aspect of the matter.

In short, identify the boundaries of the wetland and areas that may be territory, and proceed as quickly as possible along the boundaries, stealthily advancing by opening up the tree walls.

"I have a feeling that I'll be discovered..."

Sal, rubbing his arms, finally realized what was going on and looked around uneasily: "Those big guys are very sensitive to the scent of outsiders who suddenly appear on their territory. With so many of us moving together, we can't hide at all."

"Besides, this place is too close to the wetlands themselves. If you want to avoid it, you should take a safe route. This way, you might intrude into the hunting range of those creatures that lurk in the mud."

"You don't need to worry about that."

With a confident and relaxed expression, Sheng, who was in the center of the command, waved his hand and slowly opened a thin tunnel in front of him on the green wall, allowing four or five people to pass side by side in one direction: "I have been asking my friends who are based in the area about the activities of the creatures in the vicinity. I will notify you in advance if anything is wrong."

Sal looked at Sheng with a hesitant expression, then gazed at the tree wall that had split open on its own in the distance. After a long pause, he finally managed to say, "It feels like you're more like a child living in the forest than we are."

"Ah... really?" Sheng blinked, her eyes crinkling slightly. "I don't know what it means, but it's probably a compliment, right? Thank you then!"

It was clearly a deceptive expression, a cover for feigning ignorance.

However, since there wouldn't be any problems, I didn't pay too much attention. I just looked up and saw the little guy that had been hovering in the treetops swoop down and land on my forearm, then chirped.

It's a bit awkward; I don't understand what the little guy is saying. When Alice was around before, I could at least see how things were going and have her translate a few words for me, but now I'm just staring blankly at her.

I didn't think of that when I asked the little guy to go up and monitor the surroundings, and now I belatedly realize my mistake.

How about we ask the Shadow Butterfly, which is currently on hiatus, for help?

No, that won't work either. I've been asking her to do this and that all along, whether it's a solo attack from the rear or keeping watch over the stray elves. Plus, I've troubled her several times before we set off to check and correct the terrain and direction nearby. Even if she can replenish her stamina with the potions she gets, it's not an infinite amount. Her physical fatigue will continue to accumulate, waiting for the moment it all comes to a head.

It's best to let her rest now. Even just walking slowly, drinking water, and eating can help her recover from the large amount of energy consumed during intense exercise.

This is the only way to respond well to any unexpected situation that may arise at any time.

Even Sheng wouldn't dare guarantee that the choices he makes are absolutely right.

"Let me think. If it's a large magical beast that stays nearby, the two most common ones are the feathered serpent with huge wings on its ears and the pika that looks easy to bully."

Sheng counted on his fingers, secretly making calculations: "The former is mainly covered by hard scales. Although it is huge, it is very agile and good at using its body to attack. Once it cannot dodge in time, it can be wiped out. The latter is weak and not to be afraid of, but it usually lives in groups and there are many of them. Once you find one, it means that the entire underground area nearby has been dug out by them, so you have to be very careful not to fall in."

"If we encounter the latter one, we'll also have to keep an eye out for potential insect problems for you, right?"

"Hmm? No, no need, I'll be careful!"

Sheng was stunned for a moment, but quickly waved his hands in a panic to explain: "Besides, I'm not afraid of bugs, I just don't want to be in close contact with them!"

That's still fear, isn't it?

I smiled, not directly calling out his excuse, and checked the surrounding area again.

The light red fluffy ball that bounced and landed on my shoulder chirped again, tilting its head as if observing my expression.

"Does it have something to say?"

Sheng curiously shifted his gaze to my shoulder.

I felt somewhat helpless about this: "Perhaps, but I don't know exactly what it means."

"Oh! That's easy!"

Sheng, now excited again, reached out her hand to the little guy, but then thought it was wrong and turned it over, revealing her slender wrist from under the large shirt that had slipped down.

As he extended his hand, he explained, "Although I haven't tried it much before, I have a way of understanding the thoughts of animals with whom I have direct physical contact. Let me give it a try; maybe it will work!"

It sounds like a similar approach to synchronization.
