After gaining experience with the first piece, the subsequent operations became increasingly skillful and rapid. While moving them, I also noticed that the surface of these magical hard blocks had tiny, brittle pores. By breaking through these pores and adding weight on the other side, I could quickly remove them to the fingertip position, which was much more efficient than before.
"We're almost there," Miyuki's voice suddenly rang out.
I opened my eyes and glanced to the side. I saw nearly a hundred convoys of various vehicles and groups of all sizes lined up in three crooked rows, undergoing entry checks. Behind them, groups of two or three who had not yet been checked were huddled together, talking quietly. Although the scene was somewhat noisy and there was a hint of gloom on everyone's faces, there was not much panic or fear.
"Put me down, thank you for your help along the way. I'm feeling a bit better now."
Shen Xue confirmed my choice with her eyes several times, nodded, lowered the height, and let go of my hands. Although I staggered a bit, fortunately it was only temporary. Using the nearby tree trunk, I once again conquered the earth with my own two feet.
"Looks like you're quite proud of yourself." Miyuki said to me sarcasticly, then turned and walked towards the back of the group without looking back, slinging her sword over her shoulder.
I was unwilling to be constantly belittled, so after thinking for a moment, I decided to return the favor with this: "It seems you weren't much different when I pulled you out of the void before."
"...Shut up! If you dare tell anyone, I'll chop you up!"
Okay, okay, I'll shut up. Please don't make your ears turn so red, thank you.
I didn't care at all, and slowly followed that icy figure, then looked down at my outstretched palm. A vague illusion lingered in my mind, making me hesitate several times before finally tentatively snapping my fingers.
The surrounding magic converged at his fingertips, mixing with the magic threads drawn from his own body, and under some unknown chemical reaction, it emitted a stable light and heat.
Sure enough, I had a feeling that my control over magic had improved slightly during the process. For example, when threading a needle, after many attempts, I gradually mastered a mysterious trick that allowed the thread, which should not have been able to pass through the eye of the needle, to pass through easily and freely, with almost no obstruction.
As I was still trying to delve deeper into this feeling and gain a more stable grasp of it, I noticed that Shen Xue, who was walking ahead, suddenly stopped in her tracks. After I caught up, she walked alongside me again.
"What's wrong?" Without paying attention to the other person's expression, I simply turned my head slightly and asked the question.
"...Nothing, I just wanted to confirm that you were indeed following me." Seemingly realizing the ambiguity of her words, Miyuki quickly changed the subject. "What were you doing?"
“An experiment,” I replied. “While dealing with the abnormal situation inside my body just now, it seems I unexpectedly gained a little more control over magic. I’m reinforcing that feeling.”
As I spoke, I manipulated another strand of perception to guide the new magic threads toward the center of the flame burning steadily at my fingertips. The threads, which should have been turned into fuel along with the flame, moved closer and closer to the flame in my perception. First, the outer flame was cold, then the outer flame heated up rapidly, and finally it went deep into the flame core dominated by magic.
With a hiss, the threads being pulled were ignited by the chaotic energy surging from the heart of the flame, quickly merging into it and becoming indistinguishable from one another.
It failed, but it was much better than before.
While there was some distraction involved, the main problem was that I neglected to protect the flame core when I was guiding the threads to it. This caused the magic that should have been protecting the outer layer to be absorbed first, which then affected my entire body.
As I was reflecting on the errors I had made, I heard Miyuki speak up for me: "Were you trying to ensure that the magic could pass through smoothly without being absorbed?"
"Do you have a way?" I asked doubtfully.
I don't mean to discriminate against martial artists. Although most of them just rely on their physical strength and the sharpness of their weapons to swing around randomly, it is undeniable that there are still a few exceptionally talented individuals who can master magic and apply it well to their various techniques.
Take the person in front of me, for example.
However, I didn't expect her to see right through what I was doing. Perhaps she's much better than I initially thought.
Miyuki nodded slightly, her gaze still fixed straight ahead. She stopped near the back of the group, following at a distance that was neither too close nor too far, and said in a voice only the two of us could hear, "This is a method I learned from the [Northern Sword Saint]. Before, I would just rely on my stronger magic power compared to other martial artists, and haphazardly unleash my suppression. Although I could always defeat my opponent in the end, I always ended up in a tough fight."
"Later, it was the [Sword Saint] who taught me how to control magic, and how to unleash it in a more concentrated way, without being affected by external forces."
As she spoke, the long sword at her waist suddenly unsheathed itself an inch, and with a clear whistling sound, an invisible chill spread straight forward, covering the ground with a layer of frost-white color, while triggering a series of exclamations.
I could hear loud shouts and inquiries coming from afar. Gazing at the rapidly dissipating frost-white expanse and the unharmed crowd ahead, I turned my head again with some surprise to look at the icy beauty standing quietly beside me.
"Sufficient speed and unwavering will can help you suppress everything."
Shen Xue, or perhaps it's more appropriate to call her [Frost Sword] now, still had that calm expression, as if the attack that had just shocked everyone was merely a casual dance of the sword itself, seemingly effortless yet concealing a breathtaking power.
