Chapter 48 Chimera Encounter (Part 2)

Plans can never keep up with changes.

Just as we finished discussing our strategy and were about to launch a surprise attack, an unexpected intruder disrupted our plans.

Perhaps planning to use the height difference to inflict and amplify damage on the chimera, a young man, covered in mud and just outside his own perception range, suddenly appeared, his facial muscles tense, and leaped down from the treetop with a long spear in his hand.

He may have thought the chimera was dormant and intended to inflict damage, but in my opinion, this was clearly a reckless and irrational act. Not only did he fail to notice that the chimera was simply waiting for the opportune moment, but he also put all his strength into the leap, leaving himself no room for maneuver or maneuvering.

As it turned out, the chimera opened its cold, ferocious eyes after sensing the wind rushing from above. Its swaying serpentine tail also swayed as it raised its head, silently baring its sharp teeth at its prey that had walked right into its trap. Its large, jet-black wings fluttered and flapped, and a faint gust of wind began to build within them.

"Oh no."

At the same time as I noticed the other's presence, [Frost Sword] let out a low shout and, without paying any more attention to the command, dashed forward in an instant as if flying close to the ground. At the point of force, he left a sizable explosive crater, and at the same time, he left a straight, frost-white ice path extending into the distance in his trajectory.

【Wind, rouse your music, obey my command!】

I summoned the wind that swirled through the forest, part of which was attached to [Frost Sword] to increase her speed, while the other part was wrapped around the wings of the chimera to slow down its progress in creating a storm.

But this is still not as fast as the chimera launching an attack.

Even though our actions were swift enough, we were still quite far apart, and compared to the chimera and the reckless youth who attempted to attack it, this support was far too distant.

The cold, beastly eyes had already captured the entire figure of its prey, like a cage locking a prisoner, tightly framed the prey's intention to retaliate. The swift snake tail shot out, but what might have been even closer was the corrosive acid that shot out from the venomous fangs and rapidly approached with the wind.

Damn it! We're too close!

The activation of the spell requires time, and even more so, distance. My current position is just close to my limit for rapid support. Even if I wanted to quickly provide assistance to the young man who is just a hair's breadth beyond this distance, there would still be a momentary delay. And for him, who is so close, that momentary delay could mean the difference between life and death.

Without a moment's hesitation, I crushed the elemental stone in my hand.

The uncontrollable wind surged even more violently and chaotically, cutting through the earth's surface like a knife, scattering air and mud, while rapidly attacking the side of the person's intended landing spot according to my guidance.

All of this happened in an instant.

The next instant, accompanied by the clear, resonant tremor of the blade, the snake tail that had shot out like lightning instantly retracted. [Frost Sword] had just clashed with the claw blade wielded by the chimera, and with both hands supporting the blade and its heels half-buried in the ground, it retreated about ten meters until it was forced to stop after hitting a tree trunk.

The spearmen, pushed aside by the wind, crashed into distant tree trunks. Although they barely avoided the venom, they still suffered some abrasions.

He seemed to belatedly realize the danger, and with lingering fear, he propped himself up on his knees and looked over. He then saw the venom that had swept past him silently dissolve into a pit on the ground, frothing with black foam. After a brief silence, he once again glared at the chimera with a gritted-teeth expression.

"You damn bastard..."

The young spearman frowned, his low mutterings quickly escalating into a furious roar: "Why won't you die!"

As he spoke, he gripped the spear tightly, lowered his center of gravity, and launched another one-way attack on the chimera.

No! Why would he just slip away from a dangerous situation and then rush back in?

While it's not entirely incomprehensible—for example, reasons like seeking revenge for a friend or simply disliking someone—no matter how you look at it, throwing an egg against a rock is suicidal—especially when others are also pursuing the same target. I would even say outright that it's just adding unnecessary trouble.

But we can't just watch him go to his death, it's really annoying.

The interference previously attached to the chimera's wings had been removed when it fully spread its wings. Even the frost color that it had picked up when it clashed claws with [Frost Sword] not long ago had long since faded away. Not only did it have no effect, but it also made the chimera more vigilant, making it difficult to achieve its goal of maximizing its success after the surprise attack.

The situation suddenly seemed to be heading in a way that was extremely unfavorable to us.

But clearly, [Frostsword] doesn't seem to think so.

Despite the mockery in the chimera's eyes and the wind blades generated by its casually flapping wings, she remained calm and composed, wielding her sword with remarkable composure to defend and then strike again. Each strike precisely cut through the weak points of the incoming wind blades, dismantling them and searching for openings to counterattack in the rapid exchange of blows.

The chill spread outwards, spreading a thin layer of frost on the surrounding grass, but it was quickly blown away by the passing wind and melted away by the shockwaves and the intense heat generated by the friction between the blade and the air.

Even without my support, she exchanged blows with him more than twenty times per second, and by the time the young gunman raised his gun to attack, it had been more than a hundred times.

Unsurprisingly, even with my help, the man was still knocked away by the snake tail that attacked from the side. The chimera didn't even bother to pay him much attention, turning its head to target the [Frost Sword] that was fiercely clashing with it. The bulging cheeks of the snake tail seemed to be brewing the next round of spray.
