The cracking begins with the falling of a small piece of debris.
Fine, like snowflakes, or perhaps more like tiny dust particles, countless light fragments, swelled to overflowing due to the impact of massive magical power, fell and flew off, creating a cheap-effect particle effect around the chimera.
Immediately following was a sudden burst of bright light.
Like the sun falling to earth in an instant, a thin line, as fine as a hair, contained all the world's brilliance, making everything around it appear dim and lifeless. Even time lost its meaning before this line, mercilessly pierced through, frozen in place, leaving only the lingering echoes of a final, mournful wail.
But that was only a fleeting demise.
A grand explosion followed.
The pure magic, concentrated to its extreme, is like a large stone thrown into a calm lake. It absorbs all the scattered magic around it, turning it into its own nourishment, and then, within this narrow and brief magical vacuum, it triggers even more intense collisions and upheavals. Blinding sparks lingered on the trajectory still visible on the retina, and the lightning bolts, swift and agile like dragons, quickly grew thicker, occasionally bursting into bright sparks.
This is just the prelude.
Centered on one, several, or even more tiny cores, within the increasingly unstable and chaotic magical core, a new power seemed to be born. Extreme compression, due to extreme chaos, led to extreme expansion, resulting in a silent explosion. The rapidly expanding volume filled the entire temporarily formed magical vacuum in the blink of an eye before the surrounding magical energy could flow back, and then greedily set its sights on the surrounding free-floating magical energy, recklessly gorging itself and expanding its own size.
Even before this, no other sound could be heard here. Even the meaning and attributes that matter should have were instantly stripped away. The angry and painful roars of the distant chimera turned into irrelevant buzzing noises in the background, which were encompassed by the dazzling, expanding white color and burned away.
Nothing could survive.
Chimeras, shrubs, swaying shade, a gentle breeze, the sweet and fragrant scent of grass and trees, the warm feeling of sunlight filtering through the treetops and falling on the skin... or perhaps, people still teetering on the edge of danger, or even more.
I cannot confirm whether I recited the required incantation at the last minute.
My magic power was almost depleted, and it was even rapidly flowing away towards that direction, just like the free-floating magic power, as the ever-expanding white light greedily captured it. My body was also exhausted and numb from using spells beyond its limits, and even though the [Frost Sword] rushed over and grabbed me around the waist, I still couldn't escape the burst of capture radius.
However, there was indeed a sense of the spell being successfully cast.
I was so certain that the obstruction and delay caused by that solid wall of earth and stone was not a mere momentary lapse of judgment.
It was precisely because of that brief moment of obstruction that we were able to hold back half of the invading, almost annihilating, pale light, giving us a brief respite to escape once again.
The good news is that we successfully escaped that devastating catastrophe and eliminated the highly dangerous chimera within it.
The bad news is that we all suffered serious injuries as a result, and I was largely responsible for most of them.
Lying flat on my back in the wrinkled, muddy ground, I gasped for breath, feeling the dull, empty pain emanating from within my body, as well as the burning pain caused by my back scraping against the ground. I also had to endure a series of adverse reactions caused by the extreme compression of my control, including but not limited to dizziness, tinnitus, chest tightness, and nausea.
I don't know who punched my vision—I really don't want to admit that this was my own doing, but it's true—everything in front of me was constantly distorting and losing color, with dark, rough edges emerging from the front, followed by pale blue-purple, and finally transitioning to a jarring purplish-red.
In addition, there was the nauseating, constant tinnitus and whispering.
Honestly! Can't this annoying vixen just let me lie down in peace for a while?!
With an angry wave of my hand, I grabbed the little pink flower that had jumped out from the gap and landed on my forehead, constantly harassing me, and clenched it in my palm.
Are you alright? What happened? I suddenly saw a huge explosion outside the city!
[Hey—are you still alive? If you are, say something—]
[Strange, could it be a bad signal? No, I can still feel the connection, it's just like there's some interference, it's intermittent?]
Hey—answer me if you hear me—
"This is so annoying!"
I couldn't help but burst into complaints, which made me feel more alert, even though I was feeling a bit drowsy.
[Oh, looks like you still have the energy to throw a tantrum, very good. By the way, the rescue team in the city has already set off urgently, I think your team will also be coming, right?]
"Don't come over, I'm fine here..." I glanced at the young man hanging from the treetop not far away—the one who seemed to have planned to perish together with the Chimera earlier—and couldn't help but sigh. "Fine, let's have one. There's a guy I don't recognize who's fainted over here, looks like he's from the city too. It'll be good for him to come and check on him."
【Okay, you guys just stay where you are and wait patiently!】
As the flower fairy's voice faded, the pink flower that had been struggling in my palm also fell silent.
After lying down for a while, I finally recovered and struggled to pull out a bottle of [Liquid Life] from my pocket and poured it into my mouth. Then I stuffed a magic stone fragment into my mouth and held it there. This time, I gradually felt less pain.
