The brief commotion spread among the few people still in the hall, and then gradually subsided.
There's no other reason than that they weren't very familiar with the person who had fainted in the lounge.
After untying the ropes, checking the pulse and breathing, and performing emergency treatment and minor healing procedures, the group was finally able to relax after confirming that the old gentleman lying on the sofa was finally breathing steadily and his face was no longer pale. They wiped away non-existent sweat from his head.
It is certain that the person before me is Professor Adrian.
"Wasn't the person who was with us just now the professor himself?"
Hughie rushed over upon hearing the news, looking around helplessly at the people standing in the four corners of the room, and several times casting pleading glances at me.
On the contrary, Gray, who had always been exceptionally close to and enthusiastic towards the professor, raised her voice to rebuke him, and calmly instructed the onlookers to disperse, while sending the doctor who had rushed over to finish treatment to the nearby lounges to check on the other guests.
"It cannot be determined at this time."
I could only try to appease him with vague words, while sensing the painter's call coming from afar: "But what is certain is that the person who met us when we met before was indeed Professor Adrian himself."
Of course, this is still uncertain.
Even the artist, after careful examination, gave a vague answer, indicating that if it weren't for the faint magical fluctuations emanating from the returning person, even she wouldn't have been able to see through it so easily. After several discussions, the truth could only be entrusted to the housekeeper in the distant garden.
However, considering the current situation, telling a harmless little lie to stabilize everyone's emotions might not be wrong.
The four men's expressions did indeed soften slightly.
Glancing at the thoughtful little princess beside her, Mira didn't choose to question her. Instead, she reacted quickly and asked first, "So, the only possible problem is that professor went out before, right? According to what he said when he came back, he met the Demon Lord of the Northern Frost Tower and then chatted with him for a while."
"At the time, I was wondering why Professor Adrian, who rarely interacted with others, would bring up this matter out of the blue, and even deliberately mention the theft of Frost Tower's [Heart of Frost]... Now that I think about it, could this actually be the legendary theft warning?"
"So that person was actually someone of similar size to Adrian in disguise?"
Although it is a conjecture based on erroneous information, it must be said that it still has a certain degree of rationality.
"That's just too stupid."
But this was immediately refuted by Su's interjection: "Anyone who knows a little about mages will know that once a high-level mage comes to investigate traces in a short period of time, no matter how well they hide, unless they sweep away all the free-state magic in the surrounding area and form a long-term magic void, it is easy to find out their true form by following the clues."
"As for high-level mages, the Chamber of Commerce has always provided them to its various branches. Not to mention that Pis City is close to the academy, so it's not difficult to inform them when we get back."
"The one over here is a defense expert, but not a combat or reconnaissance expert."
Grey pointed out, "We might need to rely on the professionals who will be here later."
"Can't we rely on the Frost Tower Master?"
Hugh questioned, "After all, he is the only mage in the field who has reached the level of unfolding the magic ring, and he is also the first mage to step forward when faced with a crisis."
When this was mentioned, a somewhat ambiguous expression appeared on Princess Grey's face.
After remaining silent, she finally shook her head and said, "I cannot yet determine whether the Frost Tower Master is also in league with those invaders."
It seems there's a conclusion that there are suspicious points about Adrian's return, which also makes people wary of the tower master.
Watching this rather pointless discussion unfold, I leaned against the wall, close to the shadows, and waited for the conclusion to come.
Perhaps it's not just this one single factor.
Ultimately, Grey holds both the position of an academic mage and the position of the youngest daughter of a merchant family. These multiple identities and different perspectives make her adept at understanding the thoughts and actions of others, but they also require her to think more deeply than the average person when faced with the same event.
Even after learning from Hugh that the core of the Frost Tower had indeed been stolen, and even though she doubted the authenticity of his meeting with the fake Adrian and the possible unforeseen changes that might occur, she still made a judgment with the calmest perspective and maintained basic skepticism about everything before drawing a final conclusion.
For a moment, no one spoke, and the scene was frozen, temporarily falling into a stalemate.
In the distance, faint sounds of collisions could still be heard, but they gradually faded away. Looking out from the large floor-to-ceiling windows, a huge iceberg of ice blue stood in the center of the city. A few high-rise buildings with more than six stories collapsed, and black smoke seemed to rise into the sky from the surrounding open space, making the already dark night even darker.
Even the wind seemed to lose its luster in the somber atmosphere.
The rising column of smoke did not dissipate on its own; instead, it gradually gathered together, merging with the vast expanse of cumulus clouds in the distance, and then a torrential downpour began.
The damp air, mixed with the lingering smell of burning in the room, made one feel heavy-hearted.
Not long after, Grey was hurriedly summoned to handle the remaining matters, followed closely by Sue and Mira, who silently looked around. Hugh, too, kept his head down, deep in thought, and after opening his mouth several times, chose not to ask any questions. He was then called away by his father, who had finished healing him, and walked in the direction he had left.
