Raindrops leaked from the shattered glass, falling onto [Aisha's] transparent body and pooling into an ever-expanding puddle. This lingering resentment, which could normally diminish its own presence, now resembled a stray dog soaked by the roadside, gazing at me with helpless, wet eyes.
After thinking it over, all I could do was offer a few dry words of comfort, saying, "You've already made a great contribution today. Go back and rest for now, and leave the rest to me." That finally calmed her downcast expression.
However, I had no clue either.
The complexity of the situation has now exceeded my initial expectations. Even though I have seen a few somewhat outrageous cases before, none of them are as bizarre and difficult to handle as this one.
Just then, An, who had just sank back into the shadows and was about to return to sleep, suddenly knocked again, gesturing for me to look up.
The biting cold returned.
The torrential rain suddenly froze into hanging icicles, and a man in a dark blue robe descended from the sky. After looking around, he walked toward Gray and the others who were hurrying around not far away.
Subconsciously, I quickly approached. The Frost Tower Master seemed to be giving a brief report on the incident and demanding payment from the auction house manager and the heir of the local guild—which suited my long-held stereotype of wild mages as being driven by self-interest.
However, the words of the Frost Tower Master were also quite intriguing: "...I did not catch the thief who stole the auction item, nor the intruder, even though they seemed to be in cahoots."
"I tried to freeze the two of them together in the iceberg I created, the one you can see from here now. It was quite difficult, and I failed several times, but fortunately, with the help of this person next to me, we finally managed to capture those two cunning fellows."
"But soon, they disappeared into the ice, leaving no trace, including the stolen items."
Grey frowned deeply, her eyes darting around. She opened her mouth several times as if to speak, but ultimately didn't, only nodding slightly.
It was only then that I noticed that on the other side, hidden by the Frost Tower Master, stood a presence that I knew all too well tonight.
I stood silently, watching Adrian, with a calm smile, pass by as he left, tilting his head slightly.
"Huh? Yumi, why are you staring at me?"
He approached and asked softly, his smile unchanged, yet it was as if a demon was half-shadowed by the dim light: "Is there something on my face?"
"...No, Professor Adrian."
Feeling the cool sweat on my back, I replied calmly, just as before: "Your appearance is perfect, there is nothing inappropriate about it."
"It was the first time I had seen a professor like this outside of school, so I couldn't help but take a few more glances."
