Chapter 98 Capture

The gathering of magic power continued, but much slower than before. Perhaps it was because much of it had been depleted in the process of eroding the defensive formation, or perhaps because the surrounding area had been completely drained into a state resembling a magic void, making it difficult for it to continue to surge.

But in contrast, the surging tides became increasingly violent, constantly trying to crash towards the city, as if craving the many magical powers that existed there, swallowing the shattered fragments of the fortifications again and again, like a persistent, incurable disease.

—It was as if a vague consciousness had suddenly appeared.

At the same time as realizing this possibility, the ever-deepening perception finally broke through the obstacles that were far more sluggish than diving into the deep sea, and approached the center of convergence—there truly existed some kind of surging core there, as if the magical water had acquired real life, and an unconscious being had taken up residence there, wildly and frantically waving the water like its own hands and feet, causing far more destruction than a frenzied and violent monster.

How could such a life form exist? Could this be the true form of Leviathan, the colossal creature that roams the oceans in legend?

No matter how unbelievable it may seem, the actions of the hands should not be stopped.

Now that the opponent possesses the core item, it is equivalent to having a weakness that should not exist, making the difficulty of the attack drop by dozens of times compared to before.

I drew magic power from my body again, combining it with the overflowing silvery-white [liquid metal]. As the rotating magic circle lit up with an even brighter light than before, I quietly stomped my heel on the ground.

The aura of awakening emanated from the shadows. It seemed to have quickly understood my meaning, and without peeking out, An's figure disappeared from my perception range.

Charge up, then release.

[Like a golden arrow, piercing through the path from here to there!]

The modified arrow, now significantly weaker, was released from in front of my palm. It carried away most of the magic power and pierced through a vacuum tunnel in mid-air, emitting a faint white steam. A sonic boom echoed back a few seconds later, and starting from my location and heading towards the core where the magic power was concentrated, it suddenly exploded through numerous obstacles, carrying with it a stream of magic-rich water, triggering a series of explosions of varying sizes.

A sharp hissing sound came from within the surging tide, and the storm that had been battering the increasingly dim protective barrier paused, revealing a small patch of bright light deep within the layers of clouds.

As expected, this is the most powerful single-target spell I have at hand right now. Even after being significantly weakened, it still retains such power.

A faint sigh of relief could be heard in the mother's strained singing, but this was merely preparation for repelling the tide.

"Space, sever—"

As if hearing that deep voice, soon, the blade of light, as vast as the void and capable of devouring everything, arrived as expected, further tearing open the gap that had not yet been healed, causing the still chaotic tides to become displaced, and causing the circulating currents to stagnate and become disordered.

Most of the magical water escaped control and fell and receded towards the sea.

At the heart of the tide and storm, a piercing roar erupted once more. The turbulent currents violently pounded against the defensive barriers that blocked its path, making it increasingly precarious. A large amount of seawater was lost in the flashes and ripples, making the already muddy sand even more difficult to stand on and exert its strength. It could only struggle to stay afloat in the receding tide.

The magical seawater should have the ability to devour all nearby magical energy, and since it is a condensation of water and wind, ordinary physical attacks can hardly harm it.

However, the arrow, swift as lightning, was too fast to be easily captured, and directly disrupted part of the circulation structure, taking away most of the magical water enveloping the outer layer. Furthermore, An's charged strike possessed a peculiar characteristic, capable of piercing through space, severing the connection between spaces themselves, and further reducing the total magical capacity still under the core's control.

The dim, thin shadow quickly returned to my feet, flashing briefly before falling silent again.

The blue barrier ceased to coalesce, likely because the mage who had been supporting it finally succumbed to the relentless blows and collapsed from exhaustion.

The singing suddenly stopped, followed by a series of hoarse coughs. Mitchell, who had exhausted most of his magic, was bent over, coughing incessantly, and the orange magic around him darkened, revealing a hint of crimson.

I pulled out a bottle of [Liquid Life] and forced my mother to drink it. Ignoring her offer to stay and help, I opened the door, pushed her inside, and sent her back to Hikari, whom I had already marked.

I'm sure the little fool will understand what I mean.

Even though most of the support here has been withdrawn, it's all been worth it.

Through the defensive magic circle that rapidly lost its effectiveness after the magic power source was lost, I stared at the core that was still floating in mid-air.

No, perhaps it can't be called floating. It's just that a lot of the seawater that was stirred up hasn't fallen yet, so it looks like it's floating in mid-air.

The previously raging storm gradually subsided, but stronger-than-usual sea winds continued to blow towards the shore, bringing torrential rain.

The translucent, pure creation appeared to have begun to resemble a living being, no longer as chaotic and indistinct as it had been at the beginning. For example, the ear wings of a fish fin extended on both sides of the indistinct face, with a body and upper limbs similar to a human. Pale white marks outlined the existence like bones, and when they converged downwards, they transformed into a long tail similar to a fish.
