Chapter 98 Capture

—Just like a mermaid.

Just like when we first saw it, the creature at the core was a transparent blue of varying shades from head to tail. It was waving its arms and long tail vigorously, as if it were angrily calling out something, and spewing out bubbles of various sizes from what appeared to be its mouth.

Clearly, because of my earlier attempts to stop and resist, it has now become aware of my presence.

Of course, I had already anchored it before that.

It suddenly raised one hand, and once again, the lingering magical water surged from the sea at its call, converging into a thick water gun that spun like a vortex.

There was more than one; more than a dozen water guns rose up in succession, generating a deafening roar as they spun, threatening to destroy everything in sight.

This convinced me that it still retains considerable power, and even a mere glancing blow from its edge could result in utter destruction.

But how could I just stand by and watch it gather its killing move?

Having finally weakened it to this extent, how could we not use the bait we threw out earlier?

The magic that had been released earlier but not yet activated was reconnected. The magic that had been allowed to be absorbed earlier had already gathered at the designated location along the flow of magic. A pale golden magic circle bloomed behind the unsuspecting core spirit, and then rotated and unfolded from the center, revealing a void passage leading elsewhere.

That was a power that this nascent being almost powerless to resist. Even as it screamed and struggled desperately, it could not escape the void, which possessed all the characteristics of nothingness. Even the random infusion of magic-rich water could only slightly delay the time it would be trapped within it.

Besides, I have plenty of magic.

The magic fragments I had prepared beforehand were chewed and swallowed. Even though they were mixed with the smell of blood, they could replenish the parts that were consumed in time. The reserves I carried with me made this tug-of-war last even longer. How could this guy, who had been weakened time and time again, possibly outlast me?

If it could break free under these circumstances, it would probably be able to stand shoulder to shoulder with its mentor long ago, and wouldn't have needed to fight in the first place.

Ignoring the water flow that had lost its effectiveness after being repeatedly worn down by the defensive magic array, ignoring the water spray that brushed past me, I stared intently at the translucent core spirit in mid-air, watching it struggle as it inch by inch ventured deeper into the void, until it was finally swallowed up completely.

The condensed magical water was briefly slowed down, and finally, as the void portal disappeared, it collapsed like a creature without a skeleton.

This is the last big wave.

The raging wind tore apart the clouds, which had lost their momentum, revealing a dazzling light behind them.

The sparse rain spread out like falling tears, and painted a dazzling rainbow across the sky.
