Chapter 103 Construction

Chapter 103 Construction

While I was still reeling from the shock, the scene became unexpectedly quiet for a while.

During the synchronization process, the core spirit that was occasionally protesting suddenly stopped struggling for some reason. Although I could also sense the probing gazes that were occasionally cast my way, I temporarily ignored them and put them aside.

After a long silence, a slender, light blue fish tail swam away from my ankles. The core spirit, having broken free from its restraints, half-lifted itself from the water, stared at me for a moment, and with a flick of its tail, transformed into a sharp, azure arrow, darting straight into the depths of the water.

The synchronization was broken, and the last thing that came through was a slightly more friendly fluctuation than before.

Although it's unclear exactly what happened, it should be considered a positive development.

Having obtained the desired information, the core spirit then expressed its desire to settle down temporarily.

Although there is no vast ocean here, the endless sea feels boundless to the touch, enough for this little guy who has only recently developed his own will to cause as much trouble as he wants.

Back in the library, I relayed the information I had just confirmed to Yao.

"Master of the Box Garden, I must say, you are indeed a troublesome person."

Yao's words revealed a certainty that he already knew something: "I will continue to track down the guy who dumped the contaminated monster carcasses on the seabed. Whether we start with Sharp Shipbuilding, which controls the coastal shipping business, or with the Chimera Laboratory, it shouldn't be difficult."

"And I'll pay more attention to that fickle tree; maybe it's a beacon that's foreshadowing something."

I remained noncommittal: "A beacon of what? A disaster?"

"Who knows?"

Yao replied calmly, "Once could be considered an isolated case, and twice could be a coincidence, but when it happens three times, it must be taken into consideration. Although it is unclear what this phenomenon truly represents or who caused it, it is always right to prioritize its consideration and then rule it out later."

That's true.

"As for the monster corpses on the seabed that are constantly spreading pollution..." She pondered for a long time, and finally shook her head and sighed, "That is, after all, the deep sea, a place beyond human reach. In the past, when there were still merfolk groups active near the coast, we might have been able to ask them for help, but now that is just wishful thinking."

That's what they say on the surface, but they can't just leave it unattended.

However, there is currently no way to go deep into the seabed, making it even more difficult to find the root cause. We can only wait for a later day to deal with this matter.

"Won't it affect the fishing industry? I'll need to talk to my family and tell them to be wary of potential attacks when we go out to sea."

Well, thinking about it that way, we can't call on the guy who became the bride of the Abyss to help.

Putting aside the fact that that thing is usually reluctant to rest and is not good at swimming, the chances of calling it out of the sea are practically impossible. Just opening a portal that allows interaction with the abyss in reality is a huge problem.

Interacting with it normally, even through the miniature garden or the void, requires utmost caution. If a door were to be opened in the sea, it wouldn't be about cleaning up pollution; it would transform the area into a deep-sea version of the Dark Zone. There would be no need for any struggle; all the water resources on the surface would be polluted after a single cycle, except for the parts that were sealed off long ago. Even the moisture in the air wouldn't escape, and that would be a true disaster.

Let's all just hold hands and go down into the abyss to our doom.

After chatting with Yao for a while, when he asked about Lena and the flower fairy's progress on the construction of the miniature garden's defense facilities, he unexpectedly received a reply that the two of them had temporarily left the house.

"Didn't you say you always acted as a group of four? Why did the leader leave on her own?"

I was a little surprised, and I stopped stroking the cat that had jumped onto my lap, which elicited a series of meows.

"They said they were going to the Crimson Flame Land to find the missing materials."

Yao paused for a second: "The main thing is the red sand, and a flame that can burn stably to the specified temperature. Only Hui can do this. If we go, we'll only get in the way."

"The Crimson Flame Land... isn't that where those barbarians who worship fire live? That place is one of the forbidden zones, isn't it? Is it alright to go there?"

Those who regard fire as a totem are incomprehensible madmen and barbarians, and they have a volatile and hostile relationship with the people here. If it weren't for the continuous stretches of crimson lands acting as a barrier, and the fact that the fire worshippers themselves live in scattered tribal groups, making them difficult to find without venturing deep into the region, and that some of the powerful mages are either too proud or controlled by others, while others have no interest in fire, no one would have intervened; otherwise, they would have been wiped out long ago.

“Master of the Box Garden, you seem to underestimate Hui’s abilities, and your understanding of the people who live there is mostly hearsay.”

Yao's eyes darted between the characters, and he answered calmly: "Indeed, those people are barbaric and ignorant. They have not been able to develop a large-scale civilized society and still exist in a tribal and totemistic state, but that is also due to the environment itself."

"The perennially arid environment, the regularly migrating oases and water sources, the occasional surging waves and sandstorms, the monsters buried under the sand, and the ferocious beasts that frequently come to attack... it's quite astonishing that there are still traces of human life there to this day."

"Why is their totem a fire?" I asked again.

"This brings us to the legendary Fire Demon Beast."

A book was tossed into my arms; its fiery red cover bore only the flickering shape of sparks. Only after opening it could I see the numerous illustrated and textual materials related to fire.
