Chapter 93: Negotiations That May Affect Future Development (shuhaige.net)

Okay, I know it's a bit much to ask her to suppress her emotions.

Startled awake by the scene before him, the father instantly understood the situation, gently shaking his head, a slight smile playing on his lips. However, that faint smile quickly vanished, replaced by his usual cold, hard demeanor as he spoke, trying to bring the guest he had specially come to see back to his senses:

"Then, representative of the Wan Jin Chamber of Commerce, please explain the purpose of your visit."

It's no wonder that Grey is the most beloved granddaughter of the current head of the Wan Jin Chamber of Commerce. Under her influence, she has also developed professional skills in handling various situations.

Even though she had just been flustered by the unexpected information, she immediately switched back to a professional and dignified demeanor. She took out the prepared documents from the handbag placed to the side and handed them over with both hands: "This is a letter of intent and cooperation plan proposed by our Wan Jin Chamber of Commerce."

"Compared to the small-scale efforts of the past few years, this year we plan to further deepen our cooperation with Lovech Workshop, starting with the supply of raw materials, funding for R&D projects, and agency sales, in order to open up new product markets."

"...What is the purpose?"

"To develop more convenient transportation modes and more convenient and practical information dissemination technologies."

Grey answered without hesitation: "I believe you have also heard about the beast tide riot that just ended not long ago. Although it seems to be just an exception, the possibilities hidden behind it and the many problems it exposed cannot be ignored."

"Yes, the riots and attacks of the beast tide are often unpredictable. This time, it was only due to the accumulation of multiple factors that it started much earlier than in previous years. Then, thanks to timely support, most of the main body of the beast tide was defeated, and a small number of leader monsters were leading it. So, it was able to disperse early and retreat to the Dark Zone to store up energy for the winter battle."

"We have indeed been given a breather, but we still need to take preventative measures."

She paused, then suddenly dropped the fresh meat she had used to lure predators: "If your intelligence network is well-connected, I believe you have also received relevant information: this beast tide event was not caused by natural regulation, but by human intervention."

Looking up from behind the documents, Julius's gaze suddenly swept over me, and he raised an eyebrow: "Go on."

With a slight nod, Grey calmly continued her speech: "According to information that our Chamber of Commerce has gathered from the sidelines, a clandestine organization has been operating in the shadows for the past few years."

"They claim to be followers of the savior sent by the stars, but the events they have experienced have all been extremely heinous. Even this deliberate manipulation of the beast tide was orchestrated by a few of their members."

"Although the beast tide has temporarily receded due to luck, we are unable to stop their evil deeds because we have not yet confirmed their composition and methods. If they choose to repeat their old tricks or do something even more despicable, we, who are without proper transportation and communication, will be at a disadvantage."

A long period of contemplation and waiting.

After Grey finally stopped explaining her ideas, the only sounds in the room were the rustling of pages turning and the soft, nibbling sounds like rodents gnawing.

As Hikari and I sat in a booth nearby, eating cookies brought by our assistant, I observed the almost unchanged postures between the two of them. It was as if, through my expanded senses, I could vaguely see a battlefield that was far more intense and difficult than the battles between mages involving spells and counters.

Although I secretly agreed with Grey's idea, the person she was dealing with was, after all, my father. I dared not say it outright, nor was I sure of my own opinion.

Honestly, I know absolutely nothing about business. It's relatively easy for me to accurately calculate the amount of gold and silver coins, but when it comes to complex exchanges of interests and psychological games, I'm just sitting there dumbfounded.

The long, deep-breathing competition was about to reach its climax. After finally finishing reviewing the information, the father remained silent for a long time. A subtle change appeared in his iron-gray eyes, as if he were re-examining the girl standing opposite him.

He finally responded: "I must say, your proposal does have a unique prospect, and your vision is equally broad, but that is not enough to entice me and make me willing to risk the future of the workshop for such a big goal."

“If you feel the potential profits aren’t enough,” Grey stepped forward eagerly, “then I can guarantee that as long as this product is successfully developed and released, everything else will be covered by our Wan Jin Merchant Guild, even if it’s a loss-making venture…”

But Julius merely frowned, interrupting her in that same low, slow tone: "This is not just a matter of interests." He paused, looking directly into her eyes, which were blazing with fire. "But I want to know whether the decision-maker who truly made this cooperation decision is the current head of the Wan Jin Merchant Guild, your father, or perhaps, yourself?"

The blazing flames were extinguished instantly.

You could see the girl's shoulders sway dramatically for a moment, then quickly tense up, and a small amount of cold sweat appeared on the exposed skin on the back of her neck.

That was clearly a reaction of being frightened but trying to remain calm.

Hikari, who had been enjoying the sweet taste, lifted her ears and asked in a low voice, puzzled, about the difference between the three, but now was not the time to explain.

Grey seemed to still want to explain, but her eyes darted around, and her sweaty hands clenched quietly behind her back. Just as her eyes met mine, she quickly turned her head away: "Yes, he is my father."
