Chapter 180 The dead should return to their graves

Chapter 180 The dead should return to their graves

—It was like a torrential downpour that covered an area of less than a hundred meters.

For some reason, this association suddenly popped into my mind.

The clear light cascaded down like a waterfall, yet it lacked any overwhelming or awe-inspiring power; instead, it was quiet and gentle, like a soft, pervasive rain that silently nourishes all things.

The massive, dark blue sphere suddenly stopped rotating in mid-air, along with the destructive fluctuations it had generated, showing signs of disintegration.

The immense energy emitted a faint hum and vibrated unstablely. As the light of the purifying rain continued to pour in, the unbalanced energy sphere instantly broke free of its outer shell, transforming into a blinding flash of light, burning eerie blue ice flames, and a massive magical storm, forming a ring that pushed everything around it away.

Unable to avoid the sudden burst of light, we could only squint and try to restore our vision as quickly as possible. The Pegasus struggled to flap its wings and barely resisted the powerful gust of wind that suddenly rushed towards us. After a slight sway, it hovered back in place, barely causing us to feel any intense ripples.

However, the burning ice flames, because they were enveloped by the pure white rain of light, and before they could even spread far from the point of impact, were completely stained pure white, and their properties changed as well. In turn, they helped to invigorate our energy and replenish the large amount of physical and magical energy we had lost.

At the same time, the yellowish skull, which was the first to be cleansed by the rain, once again showed fine cracks and fragments.

What started as an inconspicuous little crack, under the relentless onslaught of rain, was like a film with its in-between frame removed, spreading out like a spiderweb and rapidly extending all over the body, eventually leading to collapse and large-scale peeling.

Those shattered bones seemed to have lost some kind of divine power. As they fell, they transformed into fluttering bone butterflies, swirling and drifting down. Under the repeated impact of the clean rain, they decomposed again into fine fragments, like shimmering bone dust.

The [cat] hidden under the mutated bone dragon's feet had completed its task and had long since retreated from the area affected by the rain. It then reappeared beside us, affectionately rubbing its cheek against ours.

Bathed in the light rain, [Frost Sword] seemed to have its strength and energy further replenished. The number of wounds on its body decreased, and a look of pleasure appeared on its face. It once again swung the frost-white sword blade, which was much thicker than before, and suspended it in mid-air. It repeatedly slashed and chiseled towards the front, which accelerated the process of the bone dragon disintegrating.

As for the hunting dog... well, this little guy probably hasn't seen much because he's young. Seeing such large pieces of bone falling down, he actually went crazy.

Originally, it was just wandering around the giant bone dragon's body randomly, scratching and clawing to sharpen its claws and teeth. Now, it was running around the dragon, howling and trying to snatch a few pieces of broken bone, as if it wanted to take them all back as snacks in its spare time.

Putting everything else aside, it did manage to catch some.

Those dragon bones that should have been washed away by the rain actually had one or two intact fragments taken away despite the hunting dogs' repeated unsuccessful attempts to save them.

With a gentle turn, the same lustrous sheen as when we first met appeared on the surface of the dragon bone fragments. The pure white flames that gradually died down on the surface made it even more solid. Even when slashed with swords, it could only leave a shallow white mark.

"It looks like Fokin will have some good toys in the future."

Hikari leaned over for a glance, then, prompted by me, hurriedly refocused her attention on the Pure Rain Light, which had almost missed its target.

I managed to stuff the jade-like, crystalline bone fragments back into the crevice of my person, patted the dog's head as it frolicked, and watched as the hound charged once more towards the bone dragon whose body was now ablaze with even more pure white flames. Gazing at the gradually crumbling remains, I put another piece of magic stone into my mouth and let out a long sigh.

If things continue like this, without any further setbacks, then this crisis that almost wiped us all out will quietly come to an end.

As winter sunlight slowly moves toward the center of the sky, a warm ray of light peeks out from behind the breaking clouds.

It wasn't exactly warm, but compared to the previous gloomy sky, it gradually brought a sense of exhilaration and relaxation from the bottom of one's heart, as if one had survived a disaster.

However, at that very moment, a chill suddenly ran through my heart.

Is there anything I've overlooked?

Ignoring Hikari's questioning gaze, I continued to replenish the little idiot's magic while quietly taking out the elemental stone I had prepared beforehand and looking around in the direction of the previous battle.

Without any apparent abnormality, the dragon, whose support structure had been largely destroyed, could only helplessly lie prostrate on the ground, enduring the humiliation of being constantly dismantled and having its bones arbitrarily picked apart by something weaker than itself.

The first thing to be purified and disappeared was the skull, which had shown signs of breaking from the very beginning. After the core was destroyed directly, the body beneath it also stiffened for a moment, collapsing and falling.

Then, even the bone wings that had previously attempted to shake the sky and were strong enough to block out the heavens were now reduced to a section of the slightly thicker main trunk near the spine, drooping helplessly on both sides of the collapsed half of the sternum, covered by mud and filth, and it was impossible to distinguish its original appearance without careful observation.

The forked tail was also dismantled in this way, mixed with many fragments of the spine and leg bones, and gathered under the half-collapsed chest cavity.
