"Furthermore, we now have one of their potential targets, the White Jade Cup, so they might try to attack us from somewhere."
I shrugged, watching the young man make up his mind. I stepped forward again and gently knocked on the closed wooden door: "Great Sage, are you there? We are adventurers from elsewhere, invited here by invitation. We have some matters to consult, so we have come here without permission. Could you please spare a moment to meet with us?"
The echoes of the words quietly spread through the nearby woods, the layers of leaves swaying in the wind, eventually being swallowed up by the clamor of celebration rising in the distance.
Still no response.
Sheng, who had returned, lowered his gaze and shook his head regretfully.
Even though I secretly used my senses to spy, I couldn't detect any extra noise or abnormality from the treehouse of gold coins. Not even a trace of the little bit of magic that always lingered deep inside the human body was there.
After thinking for a moment, I tried to comfort her: "Maybe she was called away to prepare for tonight's banquet. Didn't the elder also leave in a hurry earlier?"
It's quite normal for important figures to attend banquets that involve the entire community.
With a few distracting thoughts, we took one last look at the closed gate before turning back to the redecorated settlement area.
However, to be honest, compared to the others I've seen, this group of elves generally has a rather plain aesthetic.
The main decorations are colorful leaves and vibrant flowers that are sealed in a special way. The harvested green plants and wild fruits are piled up to the brim, and there is also a little meat obtained during hunting trips as a supplement. It can't be said that it is completely unappetizing, but the overly rough plating makes people feel that it is difficult to eat.
"Aren't elves supposed to be beings with profound artistic cultivation?"
Even Xiaoxi, who had been sitting to the side full of anticipation, couldn't hold back any longer and leaned over to whisper to us, "Why does it feel like we haven't even evolved into a handicraft society yet!"
"Is it possible that because the living environment is too favorable, as long as one's own safety is ensured, there is no need to worry? In addition, with a long lifespan and no stimulation from new ideas from outside, the pursuit of these things seems rather insignificant?"
I replied, pointing to a few people singing and dancing around the central bonfire, and even starting to play their handmade instruments: "Look, those over there are the ones who are more interested in this kind of thing. Maybe you can exchange your understanding of art?"
Xiaoxi immediately shook her head and covered her ears: "No, no way, I don't think there's anything I can talk to them about. And I don't want these ears for even a minute longer."
Handmade instruments are like this; they're barely usable enough to make a sound. As for whether they're in tune, that's another matter—at least that's not what the player or the listener cares about. True music's development from ignorance to a foundational and widely popular form has been a long and complex process.
However, that makes sense. After enjoying the crystallization of civilization that is more than enough to soothe the ears, wouldn't it feel a little awkward to then experience the budding of art during the early stages of enlightenment?
"Indeed, we still need to end this series of messy events as soon as possible and restore everything to its original state."
Turning her head, Sheng, sipping the herbal tea offered by the elves, raised her right hand and gently clenched it into a fist, a slight blush creeping onto her cheeks. Perhaps it was the atmosphere that made her so.
I don't have much to say about this idea, however, one question has been lingering in my mind:
If the story in this world finally comes to an end, after witnessing the conclusion of everything, what will happen here?
Is it like in all stories, like in all beautiful fairy tales, where everyone has a happy ending? Or is it as Sheng once told me, and as I indirectly confirmed through [the Fool's Curtain], that after the end, there will be a restart, and ultimately, another return?
What will the next regression number be? Will it be 665, 666, or 667?
I suddenly remembered that the number 666 seems to possess some special information in certain fields.
According to legend, the number 666 was used to summon demons.
Demons are rarely seen in reality anymore. Apart from Teacher Gollum, who has been diligently guarding the academy's gates, there have only been a few sightings of demons in sparsely populated areas. Even after investigations, these sightings were confirmed to be false alarms.
But perhaps that's why demons appear here?
Just as I was lost in thought and gradually calming down in the noisy warmth before me, another unexpected event quietly occurred.
Like a naughty child who never gives up playing pranks, always ready to deliver a powerful blow to the back of the head the moment you let your guard down.
This time, it's not just adjectives.
It was as if my cochlea had suddenly gone on strike. The intense confusion made me instinctively cover my mouth and bend forward, trying to suppress the churning and burning sensation in my stomach. I stared wide-eyed at the notification window that had suddenly appeared in front of me.
A prankster is watching you.
A prankster eagerly awaits what will happen next.
as well as.
