4. Longjia, the funny dog
One day, during her freshman year, Ling Ling had just finished showering in the shared bathroom and was walking back to the dorm, her bath basket in hand. Long Jia and a male classmate were riding bicycles behind her. Seeing her slender figure and long, wet hair from afar, they were aroused. "Believe it or not, I dare you to kiss her!" Long Jia slowed down and said to the male classmate. "I don't believe it! You'd be punished right after you enrolled and expelled! Besides, a girl's back and voice can be deceptive. You never know what she'll look like when she turns around." The male classmate's disdain was mixed with a hint of longing. "Just wait and see!" Long Jia slammed his pedals and sped towards Ling Ling. "Hey, classmate!" As he was almost behind her, he yelled at her. She instinctively tilted her head, and he lifted her hips and leaned over to kiss her cheek hard. Longjia's heart was on fire, and the feeling of his lips pressing against the girl's soft and elastic face was like being immersed in a human festival. He howled in ecstasy, and the sound echoed throughout the entire street of the school. Lingling was completely stunned and stood there, staring blankly at the back of Longjia as he rode away on his bike. Then she saw that he couldn't help but look back at her with pride, and his expression of surprise as if he had won the lottery. When Lingling came to her senses, she covered her cheeks with shame and anger, and fled to the girls' dormitory building amid the amused expressions of her classmates along the way. Two days later, Lingling was studying in the lecture hall. Suddenly, a boy sat down next to her with a few books. The two books on the top were Marxist philosophy and Deng Xiaoping theory as a cover, and the books below were all comics. The boy said to her with an ambiguous expression: "Hello, classmate. My name is Long Jia. Do you remember me? The day before yesterday afternoon, I rode past you on a bike..." Ling Ling scanned Long Jia's face and instantly recalled his beaming expression as he rode a bike in the spring breeze. She said to him deliberately in a pretentious manner: "Oh, so you are the boy who was riding a bike that day. I have been missing you these two days. How did you find me? Is it such a coincidence?" Long Jia pretended to be a romantic and said: "There is no such thing as coincidence between men and women in this world. It's just that I wanted to see you so much that my heart was filled with sincerity. I used all my connections to meet you again. So, will you be my girlfriend?" Long Jia's fingers tapped happily on the desk, and he felt that he would be proud of himself in the next second. Ling Ling smiled at her gently and politely and said, "Then, can I ask my best friend to come and see you and help me with the next level?" "Of course!" Long Jia crossed his legs proudly and said...
One day, during her freshman year, Ling Ling had just finished a shower in the shared bathroom and was walking back to the dorm, carrying her bath basket. Long Jia and a male classmate were riding bicycles behind her. Seeing her slender figure and long, wet hair from afar, they were immediately attracted to her.
"Believe it or not, I dare to kiss her!" Long Jia slowed down the car and said to the male classmate.
"I don't believe it. You'd better be careful or you'll be punished as soon as you enter the school and be expelled! Besides, a girl's back and voice are very deceptive. You never know what she will look like when she turns around." The male classmate's disdain was mixed with a hint of yearning.
"Just wait and see!" Long Jia stomped on the pedals and rushed towards Ling Ling, "Hey, classmate!" When he was almost behind her, he yelled at her. She instinctively tilted her head, and he lifted her butt and kissed her hard on the cheek.
Long Jia's heart was on fire. The feeling of his lips pressing against the girl's soft, supple cheek was like being immersed in a human festival. He howled in ecstasy, his voice echoing throughout the school street.
Ling Ling was completely stunned and stood there, staring blankly at the back of Long Jia Kuang as he rode away on his bike. Then she saw that he couldn't help but look back at her proudly, and his expression of surprise was as if he had won the lottery.
When Ling Ling came to her senses, she covered her face with her hands in shame and anger, and fled towards the girls' dormitory amid the amused looks of her classmates along the way.
Two days later, Ling Ling was studying in the lecture hall. Suddenly, a boy sat down next to her, clutching a few books. The top two were Marxist philosophy and Deng Xiaoping theory, serving as a cover, while the bottoms were filled with comics. The boy said to her with an ambiguous expression, "Hello, classmate. My name is Long Jia. Do you remember me? The afternoon before yesterday, I rode past you on my bike..."
Ling Ling scanned Long Jia's face and instantly recalled the ecstatic look on his face as he rode his bicycle in the spring breeze. She said to him in a deliberately pretentious tone, "Oh, so you're the guy on the bicycle that day. I've been missing you the past few days. How did you find me? Is it such a coincidence?"
Long Jia pretended to be a romantic and said, "There is no such thing as coincidence between men and women in this world. It's just that I wanted to see you so much that my sincerity worked out. I used all my connections to meet you again. So, will you be my girlfriend?" Long Jia's fingers tapped happily on the desk, feeling that he would be very proud in the next second.
Ling Ling smiled at her gently and politely and said, "Well, can I ask my best friend to come and see you and help me check on you?"
"Of course!" Long Jia crossed his legs proudly and waited confidently.
Ling Ling turned around and called Hao Shengnan: "Yes, that's the boy I told you about the day before yesterday... I'm in the lecture hall on the third floor of Yifu Building. Oh, you're just downstairs! Okay, I'll wait for you."
After hanging up the phone, Ling Ling gave Long Jia a charming smile, which immediately made Long Jia's mind wander. Then she helped him put the books together, stuffed them into the messenger bag he had casually placed on the back of the chair, and then hung the bag around his neck.
Long Jia was looking at her in confusion when he noticed her eyes suddenly glance behind him. He was about to follow her gaze, but he unexpectedly fell to the ground. Someone grabbed him by the back of his neck and dragged him across the classroom floor. This series of actions was so strange that even years later, he still couldn't figure out what martial arts Hao Shengnan used to instantly throw him to the ground.
On this side, Longjia was being dragged on the ground like a dead dog, grinning; on the other side, Lingling was following him in small steps, holding her books and water cup, with a sweet smile on her face.
Longjia was dragged into the men's restroom. Lingling apologized to the two frightened boys who were using the restroom, and then politely asked them to leave. She locked the door, turned around, and shot two sharp glances at Longjia who was curled up in the corner.
Long Jia opened his eyes wide and asked them timidly: "What are you two going to do?! I'm warning you, if you provoke me, you might not even be able to go to school!" It was not difficult for Long Jia to do what he said, so it was not really a guilty warning to boost his courage.
"What should we do? Isn't it because of what you did to me before? Besides, you locked us two weak women in the men's restroom. What do you think we can do?" Ling Ling's clever little brain is always full of good ideas.
Long Jia jumped up when he heard this. He had never been humiliated in his life. He turned over and was about to stand up, but Hao Shengnan pressed him to the ground again with a palm.
Hao Shengnan rolled up his sleeves, kicked the sole of his shoe, and said in a savage tone, "I've been practicing Muay Thai for more than ten years, and I've started practicing Jiu-Jitsu in the past two years. I've never had a real fight, so how about I try it on you first?"
Long Jia took a look at the person in front of him. He was over 1.7 meters tall, with neat short hair, a tall and strong figure, and a plain sportswear. At first glance, he looked like a handsome boy. Only from his arrogant face could he catch a glimpse of some vague feminine features.
Long Jia quickly assessed the height difference between himself and the girl in his mind, and figured that if he really fought, he might not be able to beat her, so he had to give up.
Ling Ling leaned over and squatted in front of him, interrogating him: "Long Jia, right? Do you know that you can't kiss a girl without her consent?"
Long Jia slumped in the corner and said timidly, "I know, Big Sister, but you can also ask about me. If you fall in love with me, I will really treat you well!"
"Hmph, who do you think you are? No matter who you are, you can't touch me without my consent! Even the prince kissing Sleeping Beauty was controversial, let alone you. We can't occupy a public restroom for too long and affect others, so I'll make it short:
First, don't rush into college and try to release all the sexual repression from high school, thinking about dating all the time. And don't treat us girls like sexual resources, degrading and playing with us. With that level of standards and values, you're not even worthy of competing with us.
Second, stop using chance encounters and fate to spin a love fairytale for me. Anyone who suddenly runs up to me and kisses me on the street is either a scumbag or a pervert. The chances of meeting Mr. Right are lower than being struck by lightning.
Third, I just recorded and photographed you, so I know who you are. I can file a sexual harassment complaint against you at school, or at the police station, for indecency. Even if you can't drop out, I can expose you on the school forum and make you a social wreck. At least for the next four years, you won't have a chance of finding a decent woman to date.
Long Jia was completely impressed after hearing Ling Ling's analysis: "No, no, lady, please spare me! You see, we are both freshmen. You two have such a high level of vision and deep logic, as well as courage and strength. I am really not worthy to compare with you. Please learn from me. I will obey your orders and promise not to harass you again." Long Jia has been able to bend and stretch since he was a child.
Seeing him behave himself, Ling Ling and Sheng Nan stood up to leave, but he grabbed their trousers again. He pulled out his phone and said to them flatteringly, "Ladies, I'm surrounded by losers. I don't have friends like you who are brave and insightful, so my character hasn't improved. Can we exchange phone numbers? I'll be there whenever you need me. How about that?"
Seeing that he was quite sincere, Ling Ling and Hao Shengnan generously entered their phone numbers into his address book. Long Jia carefully saved their phone numbers, and then respectfully sent them text messages as if to show their goodwill to each other as if they were sworn brothers. From then on, the people of Jianghu had an organization.
As Ling Ling opened the door of the men's restroom and prepared to leave, she heard Long Jia's eternal praise for her:
"Honestly, Lingling, your tough personality really doesn't match your impressive measurements."
*~*~*~*~*~*~
Ling Ling recalled her memories, turned on the faucet, rinsed her toothbrush, and then rinsed her mouth. She looked up at herself in the mirror, and wondered if she was still the same girl from seven years ago, the bold, impulsive, and impulsive girl. But she persisted in maintaining her sincerity in her heart. It wasn't to resist the current, but to find a small boat to support her as she drifted along, rather than drowning in it.
She seemed to hear the sound of time passing by. Too many people and things were washed away by time, but there are always some people who, no matter how the world changes, still stubbornly stay in your life, reminding you: Even if he has changed, you have changed, but you have not changed.

I've been writing this story for ten years. I first came up with the idea around 2006, and the story itself was ready. I started writing the first 20 chapters in 2015, added two more in 2019, and finally finished it in 2022. I realized I'd finished it too soon. The words were still there, but the world was changing so quickly. Paper money was no longer used, so much of the plot had to be rewritten. This is a story that has accompanied me on many journeys, through the many facets of me, the many facets of Ling Ling, and the ever-changing lives and worlds.
