Chapter 145 A Game of Thrones
Pei Song went straight to Zhang Ruojin's office.
The secretary said Mr. Zhang was in a meeting, so he waited outside the meeting room.
Twenty minutes later, Zhang Ruojin came out of the meeting room and saw Pei Song with a strange look on his face: "What happened?"
"Just now I was in your father's office," Pei Song briefly recounted the incident, "He mentioned that the project was blocked by a big shot..."
"He's still using those despicable tactics." Zhang Ruojin's voice was cold. "I've already warned him that this project is related to the future of the entire industry and there can be no room for trickery."
She walked to the window, her eyes sharp: "For such a big project, we must not compromise on professionalism and bottom line. Otherwise, we will lose even the most basic credibility."
Pei Song nodded.
"Don't worry," Zhang Ruojin turned around, "I will handle this matter. I won't let anyone ruin this project."
"But," Zhang Ruojin looked at him and said, "You can see that in this circle, ability alone is not enough. You need real power to protect everything you want."
Pei Song smiled helplessly: "Mr. Zhang, you are here again..."
She looked at Pei Song meaningfully, "You have the ability, why don't you strive for more?"
"What's the point of gaining power in this way?" Pei Song shook his head.
"That's not what I'm talking about," Zhang Ruojin walked to the window, "I'm saying that with your ability, you can definitely control a bigger situation. Do you think that hiding under someone else's wings forever is a long-term solution?"
"I need time to accumulate strength." Pei Song said nothing more, turned around and left the office.
It was already dark when Pei Song drove away from Zhang's building.
He made a video call to Shi Yanchen.
"Why are you still outside so late?" Shi Yanchen asked as soon as the call was connected.
Pei Song smiled and said, "I just came back from Zhang's company. There was a problem with the approval." He did not mention the matter of Zhang's father because he did not want to make Shi Yanchen worry.
From the rearview mirror, he noticed a black car following behind him.
After turning two corners in a row, the car still followed slowly.
"I'll be back next week," Shi Yanchen said, "Don't be too tired recently..."
"Okay, I understand," Pei Song responded in a normal tone, turning the steering wheel and turning into a secluded road, "You should rest early."
After hanging up the phone, Pei Song slammed on the brakes, and the black car behind him was caught off guard and almost rear-ended him.
Pei Song got out of the car and walked towards it: "You've been following me for so long, aren't you tired?"
The other party hesitated for a moment and got out of the car. He was a slightly fat man wearing a baseball cap.
"I was just passing by..."
Pei Song didn't give him a chance to finish.
Taking advantage of the opponent's unpreparedness, he took a step forward and punched his right fist directly at his chin, with his movements both fast and accurate.
The man was unable to react in time and was subdued to the ground by Pei Song in one move.
"Tell me, who sent you here?" Pei Song pinned the other person down with one knee.
The man smiled and begged: "I was really just passing by..."
Pei Song increased the strength of his hand: "I'll give you one more chance."
The man clenched his teeth and said nothing.
Pei Song suddenly let go of his hand: "Okay, then I'll call the police. It just so happens that I know a few police officers who specialize in investigating this kind of stalking and harassment case. If the Zhang Group is found out..."
"Don't!" The man finally panicked, "Yes, it was Director Zhang who asked me to come. He said he just wanted to teach Manager Pei a lesson..."
Pei Song sneered: "Go back and tell Mr. Zhang not to send such a useless person next time. Otherwise, I don't mind sending the police to Zhang's company."
Watching the other party leave in disgrace, Pei Song took out his cell phone and sent a message to Zhang Ruojin: "Take care of your father, don't go too far..."
Not long after Pei Song sent the message, Zhang Ruojin called.
"Are you okay?" Her voice was a little serious.
"It's okay," Pei Song sneered, "I just think your father should be taught a lesson."
There was silence on the other end of the phone for a few seconds: "Do you want to know what he is most afraid of?"
"Tell me about it."
"What he cares about most is the network of connections with those big shots," Zhang Ruojin said sarcastically, "He thinks he has accumulated a lot of political and business resources through those dirty deals."
Pei Song narrowed his eyes: "So, let him have a taste of the collapse of these relationships?"
"I have a complete file in my hand," Zhang Ruojin said, "from how he used my mother in the past to how he later made friends with the rich and powerful. Just a little bit of information..."
"I have an idea," Pei Song interrupted her, "Let your father think there is an opportunity."
Zhang Ruojin frowned: "You mean, use you as bait? That's too risky."
"He will definitely not be able to hold back," Pei Song said, "This kind of person cannot stand temptation. As long as he feels there is a chance, he will definitely take the risk.
"But you know how dangerous he is," Zhang Ruojin stared at him, "people like him will do anything to achieve their goals."
"That's why I need your help," Pei Song said, "You know his methods best."
Zhang Ruojin was silent for a moment: "Are you sure you want to do this?"
"Rather than passively taking a beating, I would rather take the initiative now." Pei Song's eyes were firm.
Zhang Ruojin looked at him with interest.
"Hasn't he always claimed to understand the game of power?" Pei Song's voice turned cold. "Then let him have a taste of being played around with."
"That's a good idea," Zhang Ruojin said, "He is planning an important dinner recently, I can..."
The two chatted about the details for a while until they finalized the plan.
"Have you told Shi Yanchen about this?" Zhang Ruojin asked finally.
"No," Pei Song said, "I want to try to handle it myself first."
Zhang Ruojin seemed very happy with his words and said with a smile, "I see. That's it. Let my father also experience what it means to be unable to sleep or eat well."
After hanging up the phone, Pei Song looked at the night view outside the window. Since Zhang's father wanted to play, he would play with him.
That afternoon, Pei Song sent a message to Zhang's father: "Mr. Zhang, I want to talk to you about that big shot."
Father Zhang looked at the message and sneered.
He knew that this young man was not that noble.
He picked up the teacup and replied slowly: "Then please, Manager Pei, come and have dinner with us tonight?"
Pei Song quickly replied: "Okay, Mr. Zhang will choose the place."
Zhang's father sneered and immediately arranged for his secretary to book the most upscale club in South City.
He has a suite in this place all year round, which is where he meets "important guests".
