Chapter 2 Not Easy to Get Along With
The sunlight poured into the coffee shop through the floor-to-ceiling windows. Pei Song sat in the corner, his fingers unconsciously stroking the coffee cup in front of him.
The memory of last night was still lingering in his mind, keeping him almost awake all night.
Su Mi has sent the address of the new residence, which is a high-end apartment near M University.
Although the rent is higher than he expected, considering his current situation, this may be the best option.
"Ding——" the phone screen lights up.
"My cousin said he has classes this morning and can only see you at two o'clock in the afternoon. Do you want me to accompany you?" Su Mi asked.
Pei Song looked at the time. It was only nine o'clock in the morning.
"No, I can go by myself. Don't worry, I'll be fine."
"Okay then." Su Mi couldn't help but give him a shot of defense, "By the way, my cousin... he may not seem easy to get along with, don't take it personally."
Pei Song smiled and replied with "OK".
After what happened last night, he just wanted a quiet place to live, and the character of his roommate became a secondary issue.
To kill time, he decided to take a walk around the neighborhood.
M University is one of the oldest science and engineering universities in Country D. The quaint red brick buildings and modern laboratory buildings on campus complement each other.
Walking on the tree-lined avenue, you can often see students walking quickly with notebooks in their arms, or professors sitting on the lawn discussing issues.
This kind of atmosphere made Pei Song relax a little.
It wasn't until his phone showed 1:45 p.m. that he found the apartment building according to the address.
The building has a simple and modern appearance, and the access control and security facilities are in place.
This made Pei Song feel a little more at ease - at least James couldn't find this place easily.
The elevator goes directly to the 27th floor, and you can see the entire city skyline when you go out.
Pei Song took a deep breath and rang the doorbell of Room 2704.
A few seconds later, the door opened.
Standing at the door was a tall young man, at least 1.9 meters tall, more than half a head taller than Pei Song.
He wore a simple black turtleneck and dark casual pants, yet he looked elegant yet distant.
There were some traces of oriental blood in his deep features, but his light brown eyes were unusually cold.
"Are you Spencer?" the other party asked straight to the point. His voice was low and cold, and his condescending attitude made people feel a little oppressed.
"Yes, hello..." Pei Song unconsciously took half a step back.
The powerful aura of the other party made him feel a little uncomfortable, especially after what happened last night.
"Come in." The man whom Su Mi called "cousin" stepped aside to make way, and his slightly scrutinizing gaze seemed to be able to penetrate people's hearts.
The entrance hallway was decorated simply, but there were a few cardboard boxes piled randomly on the ground.
It looked like the owner had just moved in and was still cleaning up.
"Leon." The man said his name briefly, and glanced at Pei Song coldly, "The room is on the right."
The living room is spacious and bright, and the simple Nordic style decoration exudes a cool tone.
There were several German textbooks scattered on the sofa, and the laptop screen on the coffee table was still on, displaying dense codes.
Pei Song noticed that although Leon looked very young, there was an indescribable sense of oppression in his every move.
His movements were elegant and restrained, yet gave people a feeling of being difficult to approach.
The vacant room was at the end of the corridor and was much larger than Pei Song had imagined.
The city skyline is outside the floor-to-ceiling windows, providing excellent lighting.
The simple white furniture and soft carpet exude a sense of luxury.
"The rent is 2,000 Euros a month, including water and electricity, and two parking spaces." Leon leaned against the door frame and said in a flat tone, "Any questions?"
This price is definitely considered luxurious near M University.
Pei Song hesitated for a moment, but thinking of the current situation, he nodded: "No problem."
"Very good." Leon turned and walked towards the living room. "You can look around the room. The contract is on the coffee table. Just read it and sign it."
that's all? Pei Song was a little surprised.
Generally speaking, when sharing a house, don’t you need to get to know each other’s schedule and living habits first?
As if seeing his confusion, Leon stopped and said without turning his head: "I don't mind your living habits, and you don't have to mind mine. Just don't disturb each other."
This cold attitude actually made Pei Song feel relieved.
At least this person doesn't seem to be as focused on himself as James is.
After signing the contract, Leon handed him a bunch of keys: "Access card, door key and room key. The garage is on the B2 floor. If you need it, go to the property management to register it yourself."
"Thank you." Pei Song took the key, but found that the other person's fingers were unusually slender, with distinct joints, like someone who had been playing the piano for many years.
"I suggest you move in as soon as possible." Leon suddenly said, looking at Pei Song meaningfully, "Su Mi said your current residence is not safe."
Pei Song froze. How much did Su Mi tell him?
"I just said you needed to change rooms urgently." Leon seemed to see his concerns, and his tone was still cold, "I'm not interested in knowing the specific reason."
After saying this, he turned and walked towards the study, apparently ending the conversation.
Pei Song breathed a sigh of relief and quickly packed up his things to leave.
While putting on his shoes in the entrance hall, he heard the sound of keyboard typing coming from the study. The rhythm was fast and urgent, as if someone was venting some emotions.
Before leaving, he couldn't help but look back.
Through the half-open study door, you can see Leon staring at the screen intently, with an upright posture and sharp profile lines.
The sunlight shone on him through the floor-to-ceiling windows, adding a faint halo to his innate sense of alienation.
Pei Song remembered what Su Mi said - "He doesn't look easy to get along with."
Indeed, Leon's first impression is that he is cold and distant, with a sense of distance that makes him difficult to approach in his every move.
But for some reason, this sense of alienation made Pei Song feel a little relieved.
At least, this person seems to have no interest in themselves and will not try to break the boundaries between them.
Pei Song now needs such a quiet environment to calm down.
Returning to his temporary residence, Pei Song began to pack his luggage.
Although Leon said he could move in anytime, he decided to wait until the other party was away.
This cautious mentality made him feel a little bitter - when did he, who was once cheerful and enthusiastic, become so cautious?
While cleaning up, he found that James had sent him several messages.
Before I could even click on it, my phone was turned off by myself.
The fear he felt last night came back and made his hands tremble uncontrollably.
