Chapter 33 Wounded
Although the Ding family grandfather and grandson were disgusted, their bodies betrayed them, and they practically snatched the bowls and chopsticks and started eating.
Stir-fried cucumber slices are made with tender cucumbers, which have thin green skin and tender flesh. They have a crisp, sweet, and refreshing taste, and their delightful aroma is accompanied by a hint of garlic, which greatly stimulates the appetite.
The steamed egg is tender and smooth, without any eggy smell. A few drops of sesame oil blend perfectly, bringing a double enjoyment to both the sense of smell and taste.
Using the two simplest ingredients, Sheng An employs the simplest cooking methods and adds a little buff, fully unleashing the energy of the ingredients and creating an extraordinary flavor.
The two dishes were devoured in no time. The Ding family, grandfather and grandson, put down their chopsticks with lingering satisfaction, once again amazed by Sheng An's culinary skills.
At first, I thought Madam Sheng was good at making wontons, but I was proven wrong by the porridge she made.
Just when they thought porridge was the limit, Madam Sheng once again turned the impossible into reality, using two ordinary ingredients that they had looked down upon to slap them in the face.
It turns out they had underestimated Madam Sheng's abilities.
Master Ding put down his chopsticks and exclaimed sincerely, "Madam Sheng, with your abilities, it will be easy for you to become famous in Qingzhou City."
Food is the most important thing for people, and the love of gourmet food has never ceased throughout history.
The renowned chefs of Qingzhou City are all proud of their culinary skills, creating recipes that have been passed down through generations, and they are often proud that their descendants will inherit their skills.
Madam Sheng's culinary skills far surpass those of renowned chefs, making it no difficult for her to rise to prominence as a family.
"Mr. Ding, you flatter me. I'm a shallow person. I just want to make more money so that I and my family can have a better life."
Madam Sheng vaguely guessed Master Ding's plan, so she simply laid it out in front of him: "I intend to open a restaurant, and I hope Master Ding will patronize it often."
Upon hearing this, Master Ding was extremely disappointed.
He admired Madam Sheng's culinary skills and wanted to cooperate with her to run a restaurant together, making it a famous establishment in the entire Qingzhou City.
Moreover, the doctors all believed that Madam Sheng's culinary skills had reached the point where food could replace medicine.
If used properly, the Ding family can definitely rise to a higher level under his leadership.
Unfortunately, Madam Sheng had her own ideas.
Master Ding sighed inwardly, then a look of delight appeared on his face: "Madam Sheng is opening a restaurant? This is truly wonderful news! Tianci and I no longer need to worry about not being able to enjoy Madam Sheng's delicious food in the future."
Ding Tianci couldn't wait to ask, "Madam Sheng, when will your restaurant open? I'll definitely invite all my friends and family to come and congratulate you!"
Sheng An wanted to hear those words, and with a smile, he gave a rough timeframe: "Tentatively scheduled for September of this year."
Ding Tianci is recovering better and better. In about a month, he will be able to eat like a normal person and no longer rely on her cooking.
When the time comes, the generous Mr. Ding will certainly not be short of a thank-you gift from her, to replenish her startup savings.
After Sheng An left, Old Master Ding couldn't help but tell his grandson his regret:
"Grandpa was too late. He should have hired her as our family's head chef at a high price the first day she cooked for you."
Ding Tianci shook his head and said firmly, "Madam Sheng will not agree."
Master Ding didn't believe it: "Our Ding family is one of the most prominent families in Qingzhou City. If Grandpa offers a large sum of money, we're sure to win over Madam Sheng!"
Ding Tianci felt that his grandfather had aged and was no longer as shrewd as before: "Madam Sheng is exceptionally capable, and it's only a matter of time before she becomes famous in Qingzhou City. She's not stupid; she wouldn't let someone else do her bidding."
After analyzing Sheng An's temperament, Master Ding had to admit that his grandson's words made a lot of sense.
Looking at his grandson's smug expression, he snorted coldly, feeling utterly disappointed:
"It all comes down to you being a good-for-nothing! If you hadn't been bedridden for those two years, but instead had gone to win over Madam Sheng, Grandpa would probably be enjoying tea with his granddaughter-in-law by now."
Upon hearing this, Ding Tianci became furious and embarrassed: "That's all in the past, why are you bringing it up again! Besides, I didn't even know Madam Sheng two years ago, how could I possibly win her favor!"
Why did Grandpa have to bring up something he shouldn't have? Doesn't Ding Tianci have any pride?
The mere thought of his former nemesis appearing before him to mock and ridicule him after his recovery made Ding Tianci wish he could go back two years and beat that guy to death, the one whose brain had been chewed up by a dog.
That dark history must be completely buried!
The Ding family's carriage stopped in front of the Xu family's house. As soon as Sheng An got off the carriage, his neighbor's sister-in-law anxiously stepped forward:
"Sister, your grandmother has been beaten and injured and has been sent to Rongchun Hall. Your father-in-law has gone there, so you should go there too."
Sheng An was shocked, her hands and feet turning ice-cold: "Sister-in-law Zou, how badly is my grandmother injured? Is it serious?"
Sister-in-law Zou shook her head: "I heard that the leg injury prevents her from walking normally, and we don't know if there are any other more serious injuries."
Sheng An, disregarding everything else, thanked Sister Zou for passing on the message and hurriedly ran towards Rongchun Hall, not even noticing the Ding family coachman's shouts.
In Rongchuntang, Grandma Sheng lay on the hospital bed, her face pale. Large beads of sweat slid down her forehead, and she gritted her teeth to keep from screaming.
A moment later, the old doctor stood up; the "torture" was finally over.
"The broken bone has been set. For the next few months, you can't put any weight on this leg. You'll need to change the dressing every other day until the broken bone heals completely."
While instructing Xu Chenglin, the old doctor quickly wrote down a prescription: "Take this medicine for seven days, and come back for a follow-up visit after seven days."
Xu Chenglin, leaning on his crutches, nodded repeatedly: "Okay, okay, thank you, doctor!"
After a month of recuperation, Xu Chenglin's condition has improved significantly, and he was able to get out of bed a few days ago.
Having not been able to walk normally for several months, the muscles in his legs had atrophied and he could no longer exert any strength, so he could only temporarily rely on crutches.
Sheng An rushed to the clinic in a panic. When she saw Grandma Sheng, who was in so much pain that she was almost fainting, her legs went weak and she almost knelt down.
After nearly a month of living together day and night, Sheng An deeply felt Grandma Sheng's love and care, and had long regarded her as his own grandmother.
Grandma Sheng, who was originally healthy and strong, had become so weak. How could she accept it?
Xu Chenglin saw this and quickly comforted her, "An'an, don't worry, your grandma is fine. She'll recover after a few months of rest."
These words successfully brought Sheng An back to her senses. She quickly walked to the bedside and carefully took Grandma Sheng's sweaty hand: "Grandma, I'm here."
Hearing her granddaughter's voice, Grandma Sheng barely opened her eyes, a reassuring smile appearing on her face: "Don't be afraid, Grandma is alright, she'll get better soon..."
Sheng An's tears welled up and landed on Grandma Sheng's hand: "Yes, I believe Grandma."
Grandma Sheng was so exhausted that she only had time to nod to her granddaughter before closing her eyes again and falling into a deep sleep.
Sheng An didn't let go of Grandma Sheng's hand for a long time, until her legs went numb and she could no longer squat. Only then did she stand up unsteadily, holding onto the edge of the bed, and look at Xu Chenglin, who was carrying several packets of medicine in his hand:
"Dad, how did Grandma get hurt?"
