Chapter 2 You're so easy to take care of!
Sheng Annei was an adult; after a brief outburst of emotion, she regained her composure.
Looking at the worried man in front of her, Sheng An couldn't help but recall the absurd night she had spent the previous night. Her face, usually flushed with embarrassment, flushed.
Secretly cursing himself for his "misdeeds," Sheng An slapped away the hand on his waist:
"It's all your fault. I cried and begged for mercy last night, but you wouldn't stop. It made me have nightmares after I fell asleep, and I was so scared that I woke up."
The original owner and Xu Jinnian had only met two or three times before their marriage and were not familiar with each other. Moreover, the original owner had a straightforward personality, just like Sheng An when she was young, so Sheng An was not worried that Xu Jinnian would become suspicious.
Sure enough, after these straightforward and bold words, Xu Jinnian was so embarrassed that he didn't know what to do with his hands.
An invisible heat shot up to his head, his handsome face growing increasingly red, his eyelashes fluttering as he avoided Sheng An's teasing gaze:
"It was my fault, please forgive me, my wife."
puff--
Sheng An couldn't help but laugh out loud.
This kid is so dull, it makes me want to bully him even more.
Sheng An was in a state of confusion and wanted to be alone, so she bluntly ordered Xu Jinnian:
"Then hurry up and make breakfast, I'm so hungry I can barely stand."
Xu Jinnian breathed a slight sigh of relief, and the heat on his face subsided somewhat:
"My wife, you rest for a while. I'll go cook and then wake you up."
Having said that, he hurried away as if being chased by a dog.
Tsk, how innocent!
Watching the man flee in disarray, Sheng An clicked her tongue inwardly, then leaned back, sprawling on the bed like a lazy cat, motionless.
His eyes darted around a few times, and he turned his head to look at the window that was open in one corner. The sun was already high in the sky outside.
It was early summer, and the days were short.
After rolling around in bed a few times, Sheng An couldn't fall asleep, so she got up, put on her shoes, and walked unsteadily to the dressing table.
Rubbing his aching lower back, which felt completely drained, the petty-minded Sheng An secretly held a grudge against Xu Jinnian.
This guy's skill level is like a deliveryman knocking on the door—the food is here!
However... my stamina is still okay, cough cough!
Sheng An rubbed her burning cheeks, then turned her gaze to the bronze mirror, where she met a pair of bright eyes reflected in it.
With almond-shaped eyes and peach-blossom cheeks, her face was bright and cheerful, a beautiful face that was non-threatening and exceptionally endearing.
"It looks so much like it!"
Sheng An stroked her eyebrows and eyes, murmuring to herself.
To be precise, her facial features are exactly the same as hers at sixteen years old in her previous life.
If her face were a little rounder and her complexion a little better, she probably wouldn't even be able to tell the difference herself.
In my previous life, I was seriously ill and beyond cure. When I opened my eyes again, I found myself here.
Where did the original owner go?
The original owner's memories stopped at the moment after drinking the Heqin wine, and then... that was it.
Sheng An felt uneasy.
Her sudden time travel and the inexplicable disappearance of the original owner make it hard not to speculate about a conspiracy.
Well, since we're already here, let's just take it one step at a time.
Maybe the original owner will come back after a good night's sleep. She's healthy and pain-free now, so every extra second she lives is a bonus.
The Sheng family was poor and had no money to provide the original owner with a dowry.
The original owner's only clothing for early summer consisted of two sets of old clothes brought from home, both with several patches.
Sheng An changed into one of the soft blue dresses, casually tied her hair into a bun, got up, opened the door, and walked out.
Unlike the dilapidated thatched hut of the Sheng family, the Xu family bought this large brick and tile house in the city many years ago.
The large brick house was spacious, with three main rooms, a kitchen, a storage room, and courtyards in the front and back.
The central hall is the largest room, where meals and entertaining guests are held.
The room to the left of the main hall is divided into two rooms. The front room, facing the sun, is Xu's father's bedroom, and the back room is a guest room.
The Xu family rarely has guests, so their guest rooms are usually empty.
The room to the right of the main hall was also divided; the front room was the young couple's bridal chamber, and the back room was Xu Jinnian's study.
The Xu family was small, previously consisting only of Xu Jinnian and his son, so their living space was quite spacious.
Now that Sheng'an is here, it doesn't feel crowded at all.
Hearing the noise coming from the kitchen, Sheng An walked over.
Through the open door, she saw her cheap husband standing in front of the stove, his wide sleeves rolled up high, revealing a well-defined arm, stirring the pot with a spoon.
Judging from those skillful movements, he clearly cooks often.
With his handsome face and upright posture, every move he made was pleasing to the eye; it was as if the man was painting rather than cooking.
Sheng An rubbed his rumbling stomach, looking forward to breakfast, and went into the kitchen to peek into the pot.
It's noodle soup.
There were no side dishes, no scallions sprinkled on top, just a pale white pot.
Suddenly, Sheng An's stomach felt like it had become impotent, and he had no appetite at all.
Xu Jinnian noticed someone approaching and turned around to see his wife looking at him with sympathy.
Meeting the man's puzzled gaze, Sheng An looked him up and down, then patted him on the shoulder and sighed:
"You're so easy to take care of!"
Despite such bland and tasteless food, he still managed to grow to 1.8 meters tall and develop a perfectly toned eight-pack.
This is easy to raise.
Xu Jinnian paused in his grip on the spoon, then spoke gently:
"We had a banquet yesterday, and we ran out of meat. I'll go to the market to buy some after lunch and cook it for you."
Seeing that the other party had misunderstood, Sheng An did not explain, but took the spoon from his hand: "Let me do it."
After saying that, she took a bowl from the cupboard next to her, scooped out a little dumpling soup, and tasted it to see if it was salty.
It's a bit bland.
Sheng An picked up the salt shaker next to him, tasted the saltiness, and added a small half spoonful to the pot.
After stirring it slightly, I tasted it again. The saltiness was just right, and it was barely palatable.
It's not that Sheng An is picky. In her previous life, she started her own restaurant from scratch with her excellent cooking skills. It became an instant hit, and her stomach had become quite picky.
Sheng An originally wanted to sprinkle some chopped green onions or vegetables, but after looking around, he couldn't find any, and there wasn't enough time to pick some from the vegetable garden, so he had to give up.
Stir slowly in the pot with a spoon to prevent it from sticking to the bottom.
The rising steam created a hazy mist, making Sheng An's beautiful face appear somewhat unreal, as if it would vanish at any moment.
Xu Jinnian felt a sudden panic and couldn't help but call out, "My wife!"
Sheng An turned her head: "What's wrong?"
Xu Jinnian snapped out of his daze, looking into the woman's clear and bright eyes. He slowly unclenched his fist, picked up the ceramic basin beside him, and handed it to Sheng An to cover up his earlier lapse in composure.
"Father has woken up. Shall we offer tea first or eat first?"
On the second day after a new bride marries her husband, she is required to serve tea to her parents-in-law.
"Let's serve tea first; the dumpling soup needs to cool down before we can eat it."
Sheng An took the earthenware basin and poured in the dumpling soup, accepting her current married status with a husband and father-in-law.
They've already time-traveled, and last night they even slept with a living person as if they were a ghost. What else is there to be unable to accept?
Either way, I won't lose out.
I feel a little sorry for the original owner... if only the original owner could come back.
"I'll get it for you. Go wash up. The towels on the stone table outside are new."
Once the noodle soup was served, Xu Jinnian stepped forward, picked up the earthenware bowl, gently gave Sheng An some instructions, and then walked out.
Sheng An paused for a moment, stared at the man's back for a couple of seconds, then suddenly smiled and walked out of the kitchen into the yard, where she immediately saw the toiletries laid out on the stone table.
Not only are there brand-new face towels, but also wooden cups and toothbrushes and tooth powder of this era.
That's really thoughtful.
Inside the room, Xu Jinnian helped her father, Xu Chenglin, get dressed.
Xu Chenglin was seriously ill and bedridden, taking medicine with every meal. The air was filled with a bitter smell of medicine, which even opening the windows could not dispel.
The elderly man in bed was over fifty years old, with gray hair and a withered, sallow face that looked like he had been ill for a long time. He coughed from time to time and was short of breath and had difficulty breathing.
Watching the gentle, patient caregiver tending to his son, Xu Chenglin felt both gratified and guilty.
“A-Nian, it’s because your father is useless and has dragged you down.”
Xu Jinnian carefully wiped her father's hands, her tone serious upon hearing his words:
"Father, it's only right that I take care of you. Don't talk about being a burden anymore."
He was not well taken care of from birth. If his father had not insisted on adopting him and raising him with great difficulty, he would not be who he is today.
