Chapter 155 Letting Go of Yourself

He whispered in her ear;

"I'm sorry, I hurt you. Let's not get a divorce, okay? Don't be emotional with me anymore. I promise you, I'll never hit you again."

Looking at the handsome man before her, who rarely showed her such tenderness, her deep and silent gaze was something she had longed for countless times.

But this belated affection came too late, and the resentment in her heart had long since vanished, but she could never forget the painful slap.

Jiang Shuya shook her head, her eyes red.

"There's no going back. I've said it before, the Jiang Shuya of the past is dead. Disappointment has built up to despair. Let's get a divorce. Please don't force me to do things I don't like. I'll let you go, and you let me go too, giving each other some final dignity."

Huang Minghao moved away from her neck and looked at her with a puzzled expression. Their faces were very close together.

He could smell the other person's scent and clearly hear their heartbeat. Jiang Shuya's bright eyes were like drops of water from a morning gemstone. Huang Minghao touched them with his fingertips and couldn't help but say.

"Everyone says my wife is beautiful, but I never thought so. But seeing her so closely today, I'm amazed by her beauty."

Perhaps he had long forgotten the scene of meeting her by Tianshui Lake two years ago, a fresh-faced woman with flowing long hair smiling gently at him, her ethereal figure appearing in his field of vision.

At that time, Huang Minghao felt that such a woman was too frivolous, too casual, and not reserved enough. He once thought that she was doing something shameful, pretending to be an innocent girl to gain sympathy and seek a man's support.

It wasn't until she spent the night with him at a hotel by Tianshui Lake that she discovered it was her first time, with the naked red bloodstains on the sheets, that she realized she had made a terrible mistake.

Not long after that night, Jiang Shuya found out she was pregnant. She looked panicked and distressed, her eyes filled with pitiful tears, and she cried like a pear blossom in the rain. Huang Minghao's heart softened, and he asked her.

"Do you want to get married? Marry me?"

The two quickly prepared for their wedding. After Li Dalan insisted on a dowry, they entered into marriage with expectations and dreams of a loving life together.

Coming to his senses, Huang Minghao looked at Jiang Shuya earnestly and pleaded again.

"Please don't get a divorce, okay? I really don't want a divorce. I'll listen to you from now on. You know I can't live without you. I really want to be with you today."

Before he could finish speaking, Jiang Shuya interrupted him, her look of rejection unlike anything Huang Minghao had ever seen before.

"I don't want to, don't say anymore. I'll leave you a copy of that agreement. Think it over and sign it!"

After Jiang Shuya finished speaking, she pushed him away, but Huang Minghao grabbed her again, holding her waist with both hands, and whispered in her ear;

"Can you tell me why you're so insistent on divorcing me? Is it because of Sun Qi?"

Realizing that she no longer wanted to have a marital relationship with him like before, Huang Minghao couldn't understand it. There was only one reason: Jiang Shuya might be having an affair.

Jiang Shuya silently turned her head, looked at him with melancholy eyes, and said righteously;

"It has nothing to do with Sun Qi. You watched him grow up, so you should know his character. But I still hope you won't interfere, because he has a girlfriend, whom I introduced."

She paused for a moment, then spoke earnestly;

"There was simply no connection between us. Please forgive my frivolity and youthful ignorance back then. I was only 21, naive and inexperienced, and I always thought you were the one I was looking for. But in the past two years, I've matured and come to understand the coldness and warmth of human relationships."

"Of course, these are not what I want. If two people can only make do with each other for the rest of their lives, it would be too unfair to themselves."

You should ask yourself honestly, didn't you regret marrying me at one point? While there's still time, let's be more open-minded and carefree, and not make ourselves uncomfortable. What do you say?

Huang Minghao was stunned for a moment upon hearing this, and was glad that he had not misjudged Sun Qi. Sun Qi was indeed not what those people outside thought.

Thinking back to how he used to constantly complain about Jiang Shuya in front of his childhood friends, and how he looked down on and mocked her, those foul words just came out of his mouth.

At this moment, he realized that he had never truly loved Jiang Shuya before, not even a little bit. So why was he still so attached to her now, and why was his heart aching so much?

Jiang Shuya raised her bright red wrist, pried off Huang Minghao's hands wrapped around her waist, and whispered;

"Perhaps our relationship would be better if we weren't husband and wife. Although you haven't been good to me, your character and conduct have earned the praise of the elders in our family. Whether it's your childhood friends or the neighbors in Xixia Village, they are all generous with their praise for you."

"I remember when you came back last time and shared your experiences on the ship with the elders at home. Your humorous and witty speech, your engaging and insightful remarks, won them all over. Everyone around you says you're wonderful, that you have a childlike heart, and I hope you can keep it."

Looking back on the past, Huang Minghao realized that Jiang Shuya was right. He had truly managed to make everyone like him, but he had broken her heart.

In the past, he always thought that Jiang Shuya was his appendage, dependent on him, but little did he know that deep-seated resentment doesn't develop overnight, and that cold heart could never be melted again.

Just as Jiang Shuya was about to rush out the door, he stepped forward, grabbed her arm, and whispered;

"Give me a day to think it over. Come home tomorrow, and we'll face Grandpa together. Since you're the one insisting on the divorce, I don't want him to be sad, so I need to inform him."

Jiang Shuya thought of her upright grandfather and felt a mix of emotions. At least during the two years she lived in the Huang family, he was the only person who had ever helped her. After thinking about it, she nodded in agreement.

Jiang Shuya had no idea what awaited her next. After leaving Huang Minghao's house, she searched around but couldn't find Tangtang. After thinking for a while, she decided to come back tomorrow.

Standing on the balcony, Huang Minghao watched Jiang Shuya leave Xixia Village, his eyes filled with a gloomy and bewildered expression.

Perhaps his marriage to her two years ago was a mistake. The person he felt sorry for is no longer there, and the passing of his beloved makes it impossible for him to forgive himself.

After marriage, he remained depressed for a long time, spending his days drinking and numbing himself with alcohol to force himself to forget the unpleasant past.

Back at her stall, Jiang Shuya saw her cousin chatting enthusiastically with some children. She had no interest in watching and instead found a corner to sit there motionless, lost in thought.
