Chapter 4 Building a House 2

Jiangdao is surrounded by water and shaded by green trees. Later, some of the ditches were transformed into famous wetland parks and the Youth Olympic Park, which introduced many famous exotic flowers and plants, and became a popular spot for internet celebrities.

Thinking of this, Jiang Shuya suddenly had a flash of inspiration. The grapes would be on the market in a month. She didn't want to suffer like she did in her previous life, selling grapes in the city center. Why not create a website and attract customers to come and pick them online?

It seems I need to name the vineyard. As I was thinking, I skillfully turned into the entrance of a residential area ahead, Xincheng Residential Area, and saw a familiar figure across the street.

A slightly tall, middle-aged woman was handing cardboard boxes to the truck, her hands and feet moving quickly and without stopping.

Jiang Shuya sighed, saying that her mother hadn't balanced work and rest when she was young, and didn't know how to take care of herself. She didn't take minor illnesses and old ailments seriously, and now she was riddled with ailments. The era she lived in instilled in her a spirit of hard work and perseverance. As her daughter, she felt sorry for her, but she couldn't stop her.

Sometimes I think that if she could give me more encouragement, I could also take the college entrance examination and go to university as I wish.

If you don't give so many gifts, you won't have so much resentment. Back then, I didn't study, partly because my grades in some subjects weren't very good, but mostly because I was just being stubborn.

But she was assigned to work in an arts and crafts factory right after she stopped studying. Later she regretted it, but she never cared about her.

She wanted to go back to school, and one time she finally mustered up the courage, only to be suddenly rejected: "Your grades are so bad, why waste your time? You're 18 now, you can earn money, it's time to help support your family."

Every time I think about this, I feel a sense of heartbreak.

Looking at the truck, there was a tall boy who looked a bit like himself; he was his younger brother, Jiang Shuhuai. Next to him, who was shorter, was his father, Jiang Donglai.

What brings you here?

When Jiang Shuya parked her electric scooter on the side of the road, her mother, Li Dalan, looked displeased.

His expression subtly changed when he saw Jiang Shuya unload two boxes of milk from the electric scooter.

Jiang Shuya didn't stand on ceremony. She knew her mother was like that, so she didn't say much. She put the milk on Li Dalan's electric tricycle and took the initiative to clean up the trash on the ground.

My parents collect recyclables at a fixed location in the neighborhood. I guess a lot of people have recently moved into new houses, and the furniture, appliances, and other items they bought, along with the recyclables from dismantling the packaging, have all been processed and brought here, creating a mountain of recyclables. It's a bit messy, though, so we have to use ropes to tie it up so it's easier to move.

Li Dalan frowned as she stared at Shuya: "Did your sister tell you about her future plans, like her marriage or the dowry? That brat won't tell me anything, no matter how much I ask. Let me tell you, she's been studying for years and hasn't seen a single penny of money from her. She's already found a boyfriend, and if the groom's family doesn't prepare a sufficient dowry, she won't even pass my test."

Jiang Shuya wasn't surprised by Li Dalan's directness; she smoothed her hair.

"It's fine if you say that to me, but you can't be so direct when they come. If you scare them away, your second child will hate you for life."

Jiang Shuya knew that her mother favored boys over girls, and that her younger sister Shuting was clever and quick-witted from a young age.

She skipped two grades in school and graduated from university at the age of 20. The year she was admitted to university, her mother kept saying that she wouldn't let her continue her studies, but she would tell everyone that she had given birth to three children, and the second one was the smartest. She spent four years in primary school and two years in high school, but you can't skip grades in university. You have to spend a full four years to get a degree. But she completed all the academic assessments early and won every scholarship available during her four years of university.

My younger sister applied for a student loan during her first year of university.

During that time, I worked part-time and tutored to earn my living expenses. I really didn't spend a penny of my family's money. I bought a laptop with my first year's scholarship, and later I used the scholarship to learn to drive and take computer certificate exams.

Although Li Dalan was dissatisfied, she inwardly recognized Shuting's abilities.

I graduated this year, and my job search didn't cause my family any trouble. I was hired by a large internet company while I was still in school.

It's definitely convenient and worry-free.

Li Dalan continued her rambling, and Jiang Shuya deliberately changed the subject, asking, "Shuhuai, do you know how to build a website using the internet?"

Jiang Shuhuai wiped the sweat from his forehead and said, "Sister, I studied motor vehicle repair and manufacturing, which is unrelated to my major. Why don't you ask someone in our family who has a professional background?"

We'll be there in no time.

Jiang Shuya knew, of course, that Shuting was the most professional, so she deliberately didn't want to listen to her mother's nagging anymore.

He stretched and said, "Let me tell you, you have to learn about the internet too. You'll definitely be able to use it in your future job. As the saying goes, 'A skill is never a burden.' The more skills you learn, the more opportunities you'll have over others."

Jiang Shuhuai gave a childish smile, and just as he opened his mouth, he saw his second sister walking over. He raised his forehead and gave Shuya a look.

Sure enough, Shuting was carrying a delicate pink crystal quilted bag, wearing a light blue floral print dress, and beige wedge leather sandals with rhinestones. Behind her was a boy who was about 185 cm tall.

The boy was carrying gift boxes containing various gifts in both hands, and there were also several gift bags containing unknown contents. Both of them were wearing a rose-colored Longines watch, presumably a matching couple's watch.

Through her eyes, Shuting smiled and called out "Sister." The boy followed suit, calling her "Sister," then "Auntie" to Li Dalan, and "Uncle" and "Little Brother" to his father in the car.

At this moment, Li Dalan's gaze seemed to be fixed on the boy, looking him up and down with a scrutinizing look in her eyes.

Shuting introduced the boy to Li Dalan as Chen Lin, who works as a development manager at a company called GG. He is four years older than her and his parents are in the pharmaceutical business. They are not from Jinling. When Li Dalan heard that Chen Lin's hometown is very close to hers and that he is not from Jinling, she was delighted. She quickly greeted Jiang Donglai and went to her place first. She then casually asked Jiang Shuya to book a table at the Xincheng Hotel.

Li Dalan held Shuting's hand the whole way, smiling and talking nonstop, while subtly inquiring about her whereabouts.

Jiang Shuya had something important to say to Shuting, so she went to the Xincheng Hotel across the street, booked a single room, wrote down the reservation time, and followed them there.

Zhang Dalan rented a two-bedroom unfurnished apartment on the first floor. The bathroom was simply furnished, and neither bedroom had air conditioning. There was only a bed and a small cabinet in the two bedrooms. The living room had a square table surrounded by four benches, and a sofa about 1.5 meters long on the side. Once Chen Lin's things were placed on the table, it would take up all the space.

It's probably on the first floor, so the lighting isn't great, but the price is cheap. This is a new apartment complex that residents just recently got their hands on. Although it's unfinished, it looks very new. It's a resettlement housing complex, and some families got several units, keeping one for themselves and renting the others out.
