The hospital has 12 floors. They went up through the stairwell without disturbing the zombies on each floor. There were some zombies in the stairwell, but they were all dealt with one by one.
They finally reached the 12th floor, but the door from the stairwell to the lobby was locked. They looked through the glass in the door and saw that the lobby was clean and there wasn't a single zombie in sight.
Everyone breathed a sigh of relief.
Seeing the locked door, Ye Yunyi was at a loss and could only make way for the doorway, asking, "What should we do? Does anyone know how to pick a lock?"
People standing around shook their heads. After waiting for about 10 minutes, Xiaoze, who was the last to climb up, asked while panting, "Why is everyone stuck here?"
"The door won't open," someone replied.
"Oh, what's that? Watch me." Xiaoze was still a little out of breath, but he couldn't hide the confidence and joy in his voice.
Everyone made way for Xiaoze. Xiaoze arrived at the door, examined the lock, and gave a cool thumbs-up. "Watch this, it's easy."
Xiao Ze took out a small clip-like object from his pocket and pried it around in the lock. With a click, the lock opened.
Xiaoze was wearing a mask, but her eyes were bright and sparkling. "Everyone, please come in," she said, bowing slightly to invite everyone in.
"Xiao Ze, not bad. You did a great job today. I'll get you a big chicken leg when we get back." Ye Yunyi said as she walked into the hall.
"Thank you, Sister Yiyi." Xiaoze smiled, his eyes crinkling, and Ye Yunyi felt inexplicably happy hearing his youthful voice.
"Not bad, Xiao Ze." Zhao Yong followed Ye Yunyi in, praising him and patting his shoulder, his eyes filled with satisfaction and affirmation.
Xiao Ze was the new kid Zhao Yong recruited after Ye Yunyi and the others left. He wasn't a great student, but he was clever and smart. He was too young, so Zhao Yong wasn't planning to take him. He pestered Zhao Yong for several days, and Zhao Yong said he'd try to see if he could stick with the training.
As it turned out, Xiaoze did very well in training. Although his physical fitness was still lacking, he had great perseverance and was full of energy and vitality. This proved to be very useful.
"You're something else, kid. Not bad."
"Xiao Ze, you're amazing."
"Xiao Ze, you've done a great job."
"Hey kid, when did you get this skill? I'll have to watch out for you from now on."
"What are you talking about? Why would I target you?" Ozawa retorted.
People who come in either praise Xiaoze, pat him on the shoulder to affirm him, or banter with him.
After everyone came in, Xiaoze closed the door, and everyone stood in the hall. Ye Yunyi said to everyone, "Although we haven't seen any zombies here, we can't be sure that there aren't any. Let's split up and go into groups of 2-3 people. Be careful."
"Received," everyone replied in unison.
Judging from the timing, you can tell that Zhao Yong usually trains very well.
So everyone formed their own teams and spread out in the hall, heading towards the corridors on either side to search.
A moment later, suppressed gasps of surprise rang out from the team members: "Wow, so much medicine!"
"Hurry up and install it."
Ye Yunyi and Zhao Yong also walked towards an office.
Although this is where the medicine is stored, there are still two offices, one for working and one for resting.
The teammates went to find and pack the medicine, while they went to the office to check.
The office door wasn't locked; it opened easily with a push. The office had a large floor-to-ceiling window, and the light was quite good. This office was different from the shared offices in hospitals; it was more like a corporate office.
There was a large solid wood table with a computer on it and several file baskets next to it, filled with neatly arranged documents.
Ye Yunyi noticed something unusual about the office at a glance. It was too clean. If no one lived there, even indoors, it should have been covered in dust after almost a year, but there wasn't a speck of dust in the office, as if someone had been living there all along.
Ye Yunyi and Zhao Yong exchanged a glance, pulled out their pistols, and one of them provided cover while the other rushed in.
However, the place was empty, with no one inside. Ye Yunyi searched every piece of clothing, but found nothing.
If they're not in the office, they must be in some room, but I don't know how many people are there.
"Notify them," Ye Yunyi said.
"Okay," Zhao Yong nodded and told everyone to be careful via walkie-talkie, as he suspected someone was on fire in the building.
After leaving the office, they searched the adjacent living room, but the door was locked. The curtains were drawn, obscuring the view inside.
Ye Yunyi couldn't help but laugh: "This is like trying to hide something obvious."
“Brothers and sisters inside, come out and let’s talk. We mean no harm,” Ye Yunyi said.
There was no reply, no sound.
"If you don't come out, things might not turn out well once we open your door," Ye Yunyi said with a playful threat.
There was still no sound or reply.
"Look, we've already opened the main gate, so what's a small door like yours? And you know how many of us there are, right? I'll count to three. If you don't open the door, we'll open it ourselves."
"3---2----"
Click! Before Ye Yunyi could finish counting, the door opened.
A man in a white coat stood behind the door, his face thin but not malnourished. He looked at them with a face full of terror.
"Are you a doctor?" Ye Yunyi was pleasantly surprised when she saw the white coat, and her voice was completely different from when she was threatening Shen Lingdu earlier.
Upon hearing Ye Yunyi's clear voice, Shen Lingdu saw a girl about 165 cm tall, wearing a mask and protective suit, revealing only her almond-shaped eyes, which shone with a joy as vast as the stars and the sea. Although she was holding a pistol and carrying a quiver of arrows on her back, most of his fear dissipated after seeing those eyes, and he replied, "Yes."
What's your surname?
"Calmness and Depth".
"Dr. Shen, what are you doing here?" Ye Yunyi's tone was much better.
"It's a long story. I was on duty that night when a zombie outbreak occurred, infecting the doctors, nurses, and patients in the hospital. Luckily, I was upstairs getting medicine, otherwise I would have been one of them too."
"How long have you lived here?" Zhao Yong asked.
"It's been six months. I've been surviving on the saline solution, glucose, and some nutritional supplies I stored up before." Speaking of which, Shen Lingdu had almost forgotten what normal meals looked like. He was a talkative person, and perhaps because he hadn't spoken in a long time, he started chatting with Zhao Yong.
Zhao Yong didn't know Shen Lingdu, but Ye Yunyi did; he was a very skilled doctor who also did virus research. As for why he wasn't at the best hospital in the city, but at this one, he didn't know.
