Because a large number of zombies had gathered, they dared not go out to clear them away rashly, and the zombie corpses were still piled up outside.
Knowing that this was how the half-corpse virus originated, they dared not let it go unchecked. Fortunately, they still had drones.
They found a megaphone, like the kind they used to shout through the streets, recorded music, and used the drone to lure the zombies away.
Before, they would leave at the slightest sound, but this time they lingered for a while before following, probably because they had captured the "Zombie King".
The drone pilot had traveled quite a distance, luring away the main force of zombies, leaving only a few scattered zombies that were no longer a threat.
Then another group of people came out and started killing the zombies. They then piled the zombies together, reluctantly brought out some firewood, and burned them.
Ma Dahai and his team kept a close eye on the developments in the villa area. Although he was convinced they would act quickly, he hadn't expected them to act so fast—the very next day. It was clear why they had developed so quickly.
“Brother Hai, I think their method of using sound to lure the zombies away is pretty good,” said a man who looked to be in his thirties.
“Yeah, they’re so powerful, let’s go ask for help. If they clear out the zombies in the neighborhood, we’ll be safe. Why should we fight them ourselves?” someone suggested.
“No, if we want to have a say in the future, we have to fight for it ourselves,” Ma Dahai said firmly.
"No need to pack anything, Chen Liang. Go and call Mao Mao and the others. While they're all outside, let's take them down," Ma Dahai instructed.
“Okay, Brother Hai,” Chen Liang replied.
Soon, Ma Dahai led Chen Liang, Ma Mao, Ma Dahu, and four others down from the rooftop.
Because these are resettlement houses, designed to accommodate as many residents as possible, the buildings are very tall, with each building having 26 floors. There are no elevators, so residents can only descend the stairs one floor at a time.
Fortunately, in the past year, they had searched for supplies and visited almost every room on every floor, and had cleared out most of the zombies.
Therefore, going downstairs was not dangerous. The six of them often went out to look for supplies before, so they moved very quickly.
They soon arrived at the building entrance and looked out through the glass. There were groups of zombies outside.
There weren't so many before. Some people couldn't hold out and tried to escape from the community, causing the unit doors to fall. Others were already broken and hadn't been repaired, so they were quickly breached. Almost an entire unit fell, and zombies swarmed down below, filling the entire courtyard. It became very difficult to escape after that.
"What should we do, Hai-ge?" Seeing the horde of zombies outside, Mao Mao felt a chill run down his spine.
Some of the zombies were even looking this way. He could imagine that as soon as they went out, that group of zombies would pounce on them and tear them to pieces in an instant. Mao Mao shook his head and quickly shook the images out of his mind.
"Go to the second floor, find something, throw it out the window to make some noise and distract them. We'll take the opportunity to run away. Remember, getting out is the priority, and we have to be quick." After saying that, Ma Dahai glanced at the doorway again.
Fortunately, their building wasn't far from the main gate, only about a hundred meters away. If it were farther, he wouldn't dare take the risk. There were hordes of zombies at the gate before, but now they'd been lured away. Once they reached the gate and opened it, they would win.
"Okay." Ma Dahu and Liu Jian quickly went up to the second floor, randomly picked a shop, and brought out a large vase or jar. These things weren't big, but they made a loud noise when smashed. Liu Jian found a dumbbell somewhere, and they smashed it forcefully out of the corridor window.
Sure enough, the zombies heard the sound and surrounded it.
"Hurry!" Ma Dahai shouted from below. Ma Dahu and Liu Jian ran down in a few steps, each holding a bottle in their hand. They threw the bottles as they ran, making some noise so they could catch their breath.
Ma Dahai looked around and said, "Hold your weapons. Once we're out, that sound won't work. They won't see us like cats see mice."
"Open the door, I'll throw it away as soon as I leave," Ma Dahu said.
They carefully opened the door and then ran towards it as fast as they could ever go.
After running a few steps, Ma Dahu indeed threw the bottle into the distance, attracting some of the zombies at the doorway away.
But a hundred meters was still too long at this moment. Although some zombies were attracted by the sound, it was only for a moment. When they found that there were living things, they swarmed over.
Fortunately, all six of them had killed zombies before, so they walked towards the door while fighting off the zombies with their weapons.
The other surviving neighbors in the other buildings also witnessed this scene downstairs. They stood at their windows watching, wondering if they could get out if the other neighbors could too.
Their weapons were rather primitive knives and iron bars. Fighting them was quite difficult. Although Ma Dahai knew some martial arts, he couldn't withstand the sheer number of zombies. There were only six of them, and they worked together to reach the door with great difficulty.
They opened the door and rushed out, followed by zombies chasing after them.
The man who was burning zombie corpses outside the door was startled. Looking up, he saw another swarm of zombies. He cursed under his breath and shouted, "Brothers, we've got a job. Lots of zombies!"
Those outside immediately went into battle mode, while those at the door had already used walkie-talkies and the internet to notify those outside of the situation.
They rescued Ma Dahai and the others, fought off the zombies, and ran towards the gate of the villa area.
Ye Yunyi and Zhao Yong repeatedly emphasized: "Always prioritize saving your life."
With so many zombies, how could those few people outside possibly fight them off? They should go back first.
The people at the door had already opened it, let them in, and then quickly closed it.
Before long, the doorway that had just been cleared by luring away the zombies was once again crowded with hordes of zombies.
When Ye Yunyi, Wang Zixiang, and Zhao Yong arrived, he sighed again.
It was an unlucky year, and she was incompatible with zombies. However, seeing Ma Dahai and the others, Ye Yunyi decided to deal with this matter first before concerning herself with the zombies.
After examination, Ma Dahai and his five companions, though disheveled, were not injured. However, they were visibly thin, almost skin and bones.
"Hello everyone, we are residents of the Xingfu Community next door. My name is Ma Dahai, this is my brother Ma Dahu, this is Mao Mao, this is Liu Jian, this is Chen Liang, and this is Xiao Weiba."
"Hello, let's go. Let's go to the cafeteria first and ask Uncle Liu to get you all something to eat," Ye Yunyi said, already hearing their stomachs rumbling.
Ma Dahai seemed a little embarrassed, as if they had come specifically to eat. Actually, they hadn't chosen a particular time of day; it was just that they hadn't had much food lately.
"Let's go, we can talk about anything while we eat," Wang Zixiang said.
