In his third month at the ambulance, the system was on the verge of collapse, and Zhao Yong's life became increasingly difficult.
To ensure the safety of his family, he advised Zhao's parents not to go out unless absolutely necessary, and to only help each other with neighbors privately, avoiding any close interactions in public. To avoid implicating them, Zhao Yong carefully explained these principles to his neighbor, Aunt Tian, and Zhao's parents, so as not to hurt the elderly couple's feelings or cause any trouble.
He originally wanted to quit his job with the guard team, but he couldn't bear to see those being bullied by Xu Qiang and his gang. Every time he saw them, he couldn't help but try to rescue them, which infuriated Xu Qiang and his group. After all, they couldn't defeat Zhao Yong in a direct fight, so they could only resort to some dirty tricks.
Zhao Yong was worried about Ye Yunjuan and Zhao Xixi, who were at school. He would take them to school and pick them up after school, which temporarily ensured the safety of the family.
But how can one person defend against a group of people?
Finally, on a beautiful evening, he was stopped on his way home with Ye Yunjuan and Zhao Xixi.
"Oh, what a happy family," Xu Qiang said sarcastically.
When the sound rang out, Zhao Xixi was happily sharing her funny stories from school with Zhao Yong. Upon hearing it, Ye Yunjuan quickly shielded Ye Xixi behind her.
"What do you want?" Zhao Yong immediately assumed a defensive stance.
"Why are you so excited? It's just to open the eyes of some blind people." Xu Qiang said through gritted teeth.
He waved his hand, and more than 10 people came out from behind and surrounded Zhao Yong and his two companions.
Zhao Yong recognized these dozen or so people; he had saved many lives from them, and they hated him to the core.
If Zhao Yong were alone, he could narrowly win against 10 opponents, but now that Ye Yunjuan and Zhao Xixi are involved, he is not confident, but he has no choice but to give it his all.
"Wife, protect yourself and Xixi. I'll hold them off for a bit. You two find a chance to run away quickly," Zhao Yong whispered to Ye Yunjuan.
"Okay," Ye Yunjuan replied. Although she was also worried about Zhao Yong's safety, at this moment, her clinginess would only be a burden to him. She held Zhao Xixi's hand tightly, took out the dagger from her bag, and assumed a defensive posture.
Seeing their expressions, as if they were looking at a group of dead men, Xu Qiang waved his hand and said, "Go!"
The dozen or so men swarmed forward, and Zhao Yong also rushed forward with a stick. Although he was carrying arrows, he couldn't maneuver at this distance and could only fight at close range.
People passing by hurriedly ran away. When the fight broke out, no one dared to come over, including many of the people Zhao Yong had helped.
That's just how people are—selfish, always craving help from others. When someone helps them, they may not be grateful, but when the person who helped them needs their help, they can always stand by and watch, or even kick them while they're down.
Zhao Yong had no time to dwell on these things; all he could see were the people rushing towards him. He needed to quickly and ruthlessly defeat them to give his wife and children a chance to survive.
At first, the ten men didn't gain much of an advantage, but they didn't give Zhao Yong and his group a chance to escape either. About 30 minutes later, Zhao Yong, while blocking their attacks and protecting Ye Yunjuan, was exhausted and showing signs of weakness, having been hit several times. Ye Yunjuan and Zhao Xixi were still behind him. He couldn't fall.
He took a deep breath and secretly made up his mind that he must find a way out for his child and wife.
So he risked his life and finally fought his way out, sending Ye Yunjuan and Zhao Xixi out of the encirclement.
"Run!" he shouted to Ye Yunjuan.
Ye Yunjuan and Zhao Xixi were already in tears. Hearing the sounds of fighting behind him, he didn't dare to turn his head and pulled Zhao Xixi along, running at the fastest pace he had ever taken.
"Dad, Dad," Zhao Xixi cried out.
Zhao Yong watched Ye Yunyi and Zhao Xixi run away, then took two more hard blows to his back, a trickle of blood escaping from the corner of his mouth. But his heart, which had been hanging in suspense, finally settled down. As long as they were safe, what did it matter if he risked his life for them?
Seeing Ye Yunjuan and Zhao Xixi run away, two henchmen asked Xu Qiang for instructions: "They ran away."
"Chase him," Xu Qiang said, looking at Zhao Yong.
"Okay." The two henchmen ran towards Ye Yunjuan. Although Ye Yunjuan ran ahead for a while, she was carrying a child, so how fast could she go?
"Mom, they're catching up!" Zhao Xixi cried out.
Hearing Zhao Xixi's cries, Ye Yunjuan instinctively turned around, only to see the two people just a few steps away. She pulled Zhao Xixi along and quickened her pace.
Seeing the two men give chase, Zhao Yong slid back a few steps, drew his bow, aimed, and in one swift motion, the arrow whistled through the air as it pierced one of the men's chests, the arrowhead protruding from the front. He then nocked another arrow and shot it into the head of the man who was lunging at him.
A moment later, to their disbelief, they collapsed.
The man who was chasing Ye Yunjuan saw the person next to him fall down and looked back at Zhao Yong in disbelief. He was clearly surrounded, so how could he shoot so accurately? And he was able to shoot a second arrow immediately. He turned around and saw the person surrounding him being blown to the head by an arrow.
Because of that pause, Ye Yunjuan and Zhao Xixi had already run far away, leaving the stunned man still standing there. When he finally reacted, the two who had been lying on the ground twisted and pounced on nearby people with lightning speed. The unfortunate, stunned man was bitten by his companion; he screamed and struggled, but to no avail.
Ye Yunjuan and Zhao Xixi were unaware of this, and they ran desperately towards their own homes.
On Zhao Yong's side, the zombified person also pounced on one of his companions. The companion roared and was bitten on the neck, and blood flowed out.
The people around him shouted, no longer caring about dealing with Zhao Yong.
Taking advantage of the chaos, Zhao Yong ran away, picked up his bow and arrow, and aimed at Xu Qiang. Xu Qiang had been watching him closely, and as Zhao Yong raised his bow and arrow, Xu Qiang had already raised his gun and aimed at Zhao Yong.
Zhao Yong couldn't afford to get injured, so he had to give up on killing Xu Qiang and ran at top speed to Xu Qiang's blind spot.
During the standoff between Xu Qiang and Zhao Yong, several more people were pounced on by the zombies. By the time Xu Yong remembered to deal with the zombies, it was too late. He fled as if his life depended on it.
These zombies, left unattended, rushed into the crowd, biting anyone they caught, and then the bitten person would chase after others and bite them in turn.
People scattered and fled, but when the managers discovered that there were zombies in the park, they immediately closed off the central and western areas to prevent any zombies from entering. The only military personnel guarded the area, while the outer perimeter was left to be attacked by zombies.
Those in the apartment buildings went into their homes and locked their doors. The unit doors downstairs were also locked, causing many people who ran to their units but couldn't get up to be chased and scattered by the zombies. Those who couldn't outrun them were bitten and became members of the zombie horde.
