After the zombies' last maintenance, many signs of new construction can be seen in the rescue center. At this moment, there are also ragged people climbing on the makeshift scaffolding to raise the walls.
After passing through two walls and a large iron gate, you can see rows of low houses. This place used to be a warehouse for storing things, but now it has been converted into small houses. Outside the houses, there are women wearing cheap cosmetics and revealing clothes, old people and children huddled in corners, and some people leaning on each other, weak, pale and thin, with sunken cheeks.
Upon seeing this, General Sun clenched his fists, exerting all his strength to restrain himself.
After walking through what looked like a refugee camp, they arrived at a house. The gatekeeper looked at Tian Ke and the large truckload of goods behind him with a happy expression, saying, "Not bad, you've brought back so much stuff these past two days. Chairman Zhang will reward you, won't he?"
After opening the door, he stepped back, casually put his arm around Tian Ke's shoulder, and let the others push the things inside. Then he asked Tian Ke, "You little rascal, you emptied their food supplies, didn't you? You're really ruthless."
Tian Ke dared not speak carelessly, and just chuckled and said, "You're such a chatterbox. I still have to go and hand over my duties. Let's talk when I'm done."
Feeling guilty, he walked past the group and led the way to hand over the goods he had brought back.
The woman in charge of receiving the goods was a beautiful woman with long, wavy hair; it was rare to see a woman maintain such a refined appearance at this time.
When she saw Tian Ke, and then looked at the large truckload of things, her smile instantly brightened. She called Tian Ke over to register the items, and then asked Zhao Yong and the others to move the things to the warehouse in the back.
They carried a bag of goods on their shoulders and followed the road signs to the warehouse.
This warehouse is enormous, about the size of an underground parking garage, but it's clearly divided into sections: food, daily necessities, large items, clothing, and more—it's packed full.
Under the guidance of the warehouse manager, they placed their items in the food area, where someone was opening bags to check them before putting them away.
The five of them quietly finished moving their belongings and followed Tian Ke out. Tian Ke then led them to an empty room where they could rest for a while.
Why didn't Tian Ke betray them when they arrived at Tian Ke's base camp? It was because before they set off, Ye Yunyi gave him a potion and told him that without the antidote, he would soon turn into a zombie.
Tian Ke initially didn't believe it, but after several tens of minutes, seeing the bulging veins on his body and feeling the tearing pain, he finally believed it. Ye Yunyi gave him a pill, and the symptoms disappeared instantly.
"Distinguished leaders, my mission is complete. Please give me the antidote for today," Tian Ke said meekly.
Zhao Yong gave him a pill, which he took and then left.
The five of them carefully inspected the house and observed the surroundings. To make sure that they could not be spied on while they were talking or doing anything, they discussed, "We'll split up and go out to find out what's going on here tonight."
Based on the simple map drawn by Tian Ke, the group divided up the tasks and then went out for a stroll.
Zhao Yong and General Sun were the most skilled, but General Sun's uprightness and the awe-inspiring presence of his high position were too strong. If he hadn't kept his head down the whole way, he would have been hard to miss. So he rested and decided to set off again at night.
Wang Weifeng and Xiao Deng went downstairs and headed towards the market where they had arranged their so-called life.
Wang Zixiang walked towards the accommodation area, while Zhao Yong walked towards the so-called military area.
Fortunately, it was getting dark, and there were still quite a few people in the neighborhood. They were wearing special uniforms, so there was less questioning and attention.
When it was completely dark, General Sun set out, with Zhao Yong assisting him. They went to the core area where Zhang Sheng and his men were located.
Zhao Yong and General Sun cautiously approached the core area. Under the cover of darkness, they hid in a shadowy spot and observed. The building was brightly lit, with patrols constantly moving back and forth, indicating a tight security presence.
Getting in wasn't easy. They looked around and saw a sewer opening leading to that area not far away. Ignoring the stench, they carefully pried it open and followed the sewer in that direction.
After groping around in the sewers for several tens of minutes, they found the exit. Looking up through the opening, they saw no one and carefully climbed back up. They restored the opening and quickly hid in the nearby bushes.
The house was still lit up, and faint sounds like zombie howls could be heard, but upon closer listening, they sounded more like human voices.
They climbed up the drainpipe outside the wall to the second floor and jumped in through a window that was not lit.
They held their breath, moving quickly when no one was around, and hiding in the shadows when people were present. They slowly advanced towards the figure.
As they reached the end of the corridor, a tightly closed iron gate blocked their way, and the sound became even clearer.
"Please, spare me! I don't want to be a zombie, I don't want to be a zombie!" A man's voice pleaded desperately.
"These aren't ordinary zombies. Do you know how lucky you are to have been chosen? Once you're infected with this virus, you'll become incredibly powerful, beyond the reach of even guns. You can also live forever—something so many people dream of!" A man drawled, sounding like a freak from a TV show.
Inside, there were sounds of things collapsing and chaotic footsteps. After a while, the man said viciously, "Useless thing, hold him down and inject the virus into him."
General Sun knew that they were conducting biological experiments on living people, and that was now confirmed.
Unable to enter, and with nothing to obstruct their view in the corridor, they had no choice but to leave.
After leaving that building, they moved towards another one. Only one room on the first floor of this building glowed green, making it look particularly eerie. The two exchanged a glance and approached anyway. Looking inside, they saw it was a duty room; there were countless screens, each displaying footage of a different location.
The path they came from is inside. The fact that they weren't discovered is simply incredible luck. The person on duty is having diarrhea today and isn't here right now.
Seeing that no one was around, they roughly knew Zhang Sheng's location from the surveillance footage. They no longer needed to search each building one by one.
Before the guards returned, Zhao Yong and General Sun arrived at Zhang Sheng's villa.
They found a blind spot in the surveillance system and prepared to go inside and take a look.
Just as they were about to climb over, a piercing explosion suddenly occurred, the lights around the house came on, and the guards immediately rushed over.
Zhao Yong and General Sun could no longer care about anything else and fled at the fastest speed they had ever been.
