Chapter 1 Rebirth (3/3)

Shi Man ran across the road back to the urban village. The surrounding buildings seemed to be stuck in the 1990s, with self-built houses of varying heights and narrow and crowded roads.

There are still many people living in the urban village. Most of the first floors are grocery stores or restaurants, but many of them have closed down due to demolition.

Those who are staying now are either those whose demolition compensation has not been negotiated yet, or those tenants who stayed because the rent is cheap.

The urban village consists of two intersecting long streets, and Shiman’s old house is right at the corner.

Although the Shiman family's old house has five floors and a fenced courtyard, its outer walls are cracked and large pieces of cement have fallen off, revealing the red bricks and steel bars inside. It is definitely a dangerous building.

The agents shook their heads when they saw the building. It was for this reason that the old building was not rented out.

When Shi Man was struggling with the rusty iron gate of the courtyard, an old lady came out from the Mahjong parlor next door and grabbed Shi Man's arm:

"I knew it was you, Xiaoman, from the sound of your voice. My nephew is coming over this afternoon, so you'll have time to see him this time!"

"My nephew is the only child in the family. If you don't hurry up, you'll miss him forever!"

The lock of the iron gate was rusty and difficult to open, and Shi Man was getting angry because of being dragged.

She remembered her old neighbor, Aunt Zhou, whose family ran a mahjong parlor, and Shi Dashan and his wife always loved to come here to play cards.

In her previous life, Aunt Zhou looked down on her, but after the old house was scheduled to be demolished, Aunt Zhou's attitude towards her changed. She was eager to introduce her nephew, who was in his thirties and was still idle at home and relying on his parents, to her.

"I don't have time! Even if I had time, I wouldn't show up!" Shi Man pulled her hand out with all her strength. The hand that was unlocking the door exerted force, and with a click, the lock was twisted open. "Why don't you hide your precious only child? Burn three sticks of incense to him every day as an offering."

After Shi Man finished arguing with the man, she immediately went into the yard and slammed the door.

Aunt Zhou's face turned ugly. She banged on the door and cursed, "You fatherless and motherless bastard, how dare you have eyes on your head!"

"I introduce my nephew to you because I think highly of you! Who do you think you are?"

Shi Man sneered.

He took out the key to open the door of the old house while talking on the phone.

"Wow, is this the police station? I want to report a gambling ring. Yes, the address is..."

Shi Man knew exactly how much money was spent on mahjong at Aunt Zhou's mahjong parlor, and she could tell the exact amount just by checking.

She didn't have time to deal with this trouble, but she didn't mind causing some trouble for the other party!

Shi Man had a clear goal. He took the homestead certificate to the housing expropriation department to get the demolition compensation, and then quickly stocked up on goods.

But most importantly, Shi Man wanted to confirm two things:

The old house her grandmother left her is very strange. Even though natural disasters such as typhoons, floods, blizzards, and earthquakes occur frequently, the old house still stands!

Later, Shi Man was disemboweled in the old house. Before she died, she heard Shi Dashan and the others muttering:

They said that food and water sources inexplicably appeared in the old house, and the doors and windows looked old but strangely sturdy.

But there was not much food and water to share, so they could only survive with difficulty. But shortly before her death, the drinking water in the old house suddenly stopped.

Then, Shi Man was eaten.

The old house holds a secret, a secret that might help Shi Man survive the apocalypse. Besides that, the second thing is...

Shi Man opened the door of the old house with a nervous mood. After entering, a white shadow suddenly rushed over.

The moment the familiar and long-lost cat's meow rushed into Shi Man's ears, her eyes became moist.
