Chapter 22 Leisurely Recuperation Life
Despite a minor hiccup, Su Yun still diligently finished telling the story of the Little Mermaid.
Finally, in the first rays of dawn, the Little Mermaid turned into sea foam and slowly disappeared with the surging waves...
After Su Yun finished telling the last sentence of the story, she breathed a sigh of relief and then turned to look at Ye Feng expectantly, wondering if he could understand her good intentions.
Unfortunately, Ye Feng remained calm, seemingly unable to understand her good intentions.
Ye Feng noticed the look in Su Yun's eyes as she stared at him, a look of expectation mixed with a hint of resentment, as if she was waiting for him to say something.
He lowered his head, rested his chin on his hand, and pondered for a moment. Finally, he looked up, his eyes slightly bewildered, at Su Yun, and made his final conclusion: "Has she evolved?"
What kind of conclusion is this?
Su Yun was so angry she almost flipped the table. What kind of energy could cause someone to evolve after a breakup?
If this were true, she would immediately start dating, and ideally, experience a hundred or a thousand breakups so she could evolve into an invincible superhero.
Looking at Ye Feng's bewildered expression, Su Yun had mentally prepared a thousand complaints before finally letting them out. She sighed and rubbed her forehead. No, no, now that mermaids have actually appeared, we can't simply use the common sense from our original world to understand this place.
After much thought, Su Yun was quite frustrated. It seemed that the common sense in this post-apocalyptic world was vastly different from that in the original world. He couldn't simply apply the same concepts to teach the kitten. He had to combine the actual situation of this world with the language, making it as simple and easy to understand as possible, and then gradually deepen his understanding.
Then, with a sorrowful expression, she said with great heartache, "She died... It wasn't evolution... Is it really possible for something to evolve into bubbles?"
Night Breeze was taken aback at first, then reacted, softly saying, "Oh—" before explaining in a low voice, "There's a white liquid thing, I don't know what it is, it frantically coats up everything it can cover and then eats it up. I've seen it in the lab..."
After speaking, Ye Feng still looked confused. He still couldn't quite understand the ending of the story, so with a thirst for knowledge, he asked in bewilderment, "Why did the Little Mermaid die?"
Seeing the kitten's inquisitive eyes, Su Yun felt her opportunity had arrived. She perked up and explained dutifully, "Because of the sea witch's curse, the Little Mermaid will die if she doesn't get the prince's love. So love is a very special thing." Su Yun guided her patiently, her eyes sincere and full of expectation, hoping for Ye Feng's sudden realization.
Sure enough, after listening to her words, Ye Feng remained silent for a moment, and finally, with clear eyes, he concluded: "The sea witch is really scary. It's better to stay away from the sea."
puff--
Su Yun almost vomited blood. Hey kid, your focus is really strange. This is clearly a tragic love story. Please don't focus on all the irrelevant details, okay?
Besides, mermaids are real, but sea witches and stuff... that can't be right, can it?
Just as Su Yun was pondering whether the sea witch really existed.
After listening to the story, Ye Feng calmly stood up, prepared to finish cooking, and watched Ye Feng's departing figure.
Su Yun felt both helpless and amused. He slumped onto the bed and pondered for a long time. Was the story really not rich enough?
After thinking for a long time, Su Yun decided to continue telling Ye Feng stories like The Frog Prince and Beauty and the Beast, or perhaps stories about friendship, like the Seven Calabash Brothers or Pleasant Goat and Big Big Wolf, to broaden his knowledge...
Through constant exposure, Ye Feng will surely understand!
Su Yun clenched her small fists secretly.
After a few more days of leisurely recuperation, the continuous spring rain finally stopped. As soon as the sky cleared up, Su Yun couldn't wait to move into the yard to bask in the sun.
Although the spring rain was very kind and timely, the rain these past few days had kept Su Yun confined to bed for several days, and she was worried that her wound would get wet and become infected. Ye Feng had not allowed her to move around freely outside the house. Su Yun had been cooped up in bed for a while and was feeling quite stifled.
Finally, the sun came out that day, and her wound had healed a lot in the past few days. Luckily, it hadn't become infected or festering, and a thick scab had formed. Everything was slowly recovering. So she slowly moved her feet and went under the eaves to bask in the sun.
The night breeze had vanished, and no one paid her any attention. Su Yun held a cup of hot tea, sipping it lightly while watching the little sparrow hopping on the wall, then gazing at the ever-changing white clouds and the verdant, towering mountains in the distance. She felt extremely comfortable and at ease.
If living conditions were better and the surrounding dangers were fewer, this would truly be the ideal life of returning to the countryside.
Su Yun thought to herself.
Unfortunately, life is full of inexplicable troubles. Although the sky has cleared up, the floor is still wet. The things that were put away earlier will spoil if they are not dried soon. So Su Yun looked at the mountains and the water but could not shake the hidden sorrow in his heart.
Or should we try to hang the winnowing basket up?
Su Yun stared at the clothesline in the yard and began to consider the feasibility of the method.
Just as she was about to get up and get the rope, she decided to take action.
With a creak, the courtyard gate was pushed open.
Su Yun peeked out and saw a five-tiered drying rack being pushed in from outside.
Su Yun's mouth formed an "O" shape in surprise, almost big enough to fit an egg. Ah! Isn't this the drying rack she had her eye on when she was searching for supplies last time?
She exclaimed at the time, "This shelf is so convenient! It has so many layers, and you can put a winnowing basket on each layer to dry things or hang things on a string."
Originally, she planned to move back when she had time, but then—she accidentally got injured. Taking care of her injury was the priority, and Su Yun couldn't even get out of bed, let alone move things. Unexpectedly, Ye Feng remembered and took the initiative to move them back.
She remembered that the house was quite a distance away from here!
"Wow! Night Breeze, you actually brought it back! Now it'll be so convenient to dry things!" Su Yun said excitedly as she moved it to the doorway and stroked the rack.
"Mmm." Seeing how happy she was, Ye Feng happily responded.
Seeing him carrying the rack with beads of sweat on his forehead, Su Yun thoughtfully poured him a glass of water: "Come and have a drink of water first."
Night Breeze obediently took the water glass, drank it all in one gulp, then put the glass down and ran out like a gust of wind.
"Hey, Night Breeze, where are you going again?" Su Yun called out hurriedly.
"I'm going to move some things—" came the night wind's reply, the last syllable of which was drawn out.
Moving things?
What are you moving?
Su Yun was filled with doubt. She limped to the door to ask, but the other person had already disappeared.
"Hey, where did he go? What is he carrying?" Su Yun murmured, feeling a little puzzled, but more than that, she was worried. Although she already knew that Ye Feng's combat strength was among the best in the area, she still couldn't help but worry about him when he was out of her sight.
She wanted to go out with them, but then she thought about her injured foot and decided not to cause any trouble.
So she obediently sat back down in her chair and waited. After a while, she saw a whole series of small tables, cabinets, chairs, and boxes being carried into the yard by Ye Feng. Ah, Su Yun was slightly surprised and thought to herself, "What if Ye Feng brings back everything she had been eyeing before?"
Su Yun stared in disbelief at the ever-increasing amount of furniture piled up in the yard, including a small recliner that looked a bit like the one she used to have at home, but was a little smaller and just the right size for her.
However, Su Yun remembered that these things were scattered in various corners of the village. Wouldn't Ye Feng have to go and find them one by one to carry them away?
Thinking of this, Su Yun hurriedly called out to Ye Feng, whose face was covered in sweat and who was trying to slip out of the door again, and stopped him, saying, "That's enough, that's enough. You must be tired by now. Take a rest."
Night Breeze looked up at the still early sky, lowered its head, and replied softly, "Not tired, I can carry more."
Large beads of sweat streamed down his face and fell to the floor. Even under the faint sun, he was covered in sweat and his breathing became slightly labored.
I was clearly tired.
Su Yun was worried that Ye Feng, who was still recovering from his serious injuries, shouldn't do too much strenuous work and needed to rest and recuperate. But no matter how much Su Yun said this, Ye Feng wouldn't listen. He insisted that his injuries were healed and he could work, and that Su Yun was the one who needed to rest. So he wouldn't let Su Yun do anything and carried him back to bed.
Seeing Ye Feng take on most of the work after she was injured, and seeing him busy himself around, it seemed like he was making up for all the work he had missed while recovering from his injury.
It makes you both happy and heartbroken.
Su Yun suppressed this strange feeling, tilted her head, and decided not to let him continue to act willfully, so she decided to adopt a roundabout tactic.
So she thought for a moment, then smiled and said, "The yard is almost overflowing, come and help me wash them clean, I can't handle it by myself."
Washing furniture is indeed a job, and it's not something one person can do well. Seeing her say that, Ye Feng finally stopped carrying things inside and obediently came over. "It's okay, I can wash it myself. You just watch from the side and don't move."
Huh? We agreed to go together as a couple, so why are we starting again?
However, Su Yun did not listen to him and insisted on helping. "It's just helping to get a water pipe. It's not a difficult thing. If I lie down any longer, I'll be ruined!"
So she firmly gripped the water pipe, making it clear that no amount of persuasion would work.
The night breeze could only be left to its own devices.
Most of these pieces of furniture are made of wood and are in good condition, but they have been unused for so long that they have accumulated a thick layer of dust and require a lot of cleaning.
Su Yun connected the water pipe, and Ye Feng started the water pumping, the two of them working together.
Su Yun grabbed the other end of the water pipe, stood far away, and used only her fingers to press the water pipe opening to control the water flow. She began to wash away the dust on the furniture. The thick dust was washed away by the well water, revealing its original color—a dark gray-brown.
Those pieces of furniture, some yellow and some dark gray, bearing the dust of years that water cannot wash away, and occasionally a fine sheen of oil, are quietly displayed in the corner, telling the story of the long and peaceful passage of time.
Although the mottled marks affect their appearance, they cannot diminish their beauty.
Su Yun has always had a great fondness for these vintage items, treating them like treasures. So, while washing them, a joyful smile spread across her face, and she unconsciously hummed a tune: "Wash, wash, wash..."
The night breeze gazed at the shallow dimples that the girl revealed.
For the first time, I sincerely exclaimed in my heart:
That's great, finally I can do something for her.
