Chapter 84 Residents and Fishing
Deer are herbivores.
At dinner, Su Yun washed a basket of bok choy and mustard greens, vegetables specially for Xiao Lu.
Little Deer didn't mind whether there was meat or not. Holding his little basket, he ate happily, "This bok choy is so delicious, so juicy and tender. I haven't had such delicious bok choy in so long. Sister, you're amazing!"
Su Yun smiled and served him a bowl of tomato and egg soup. "Eat more if you like it. Here, these tomatoes were picked this afternoon, and they're very delicious."
"Mmm, it's sweet and delicious." Little Deer took a sip of the tomato and egg soup and sighed deeply. "It's been a long time since I've had hot food. Thank you, sister."
The little deer blinked its eyes and revealed a sweet smile.
Su Yun couldn't help but add more food to the other person's plate, pushing the sliced papaya towards them, "Oh, right, there's still some papaya here, you picked it today, eat more."
"Oh, how can you? This is a gift for you, it's for you..."
"It's okay, I just tried it, it's a very sweet papaya. Good things are meant to be shared. You should try it too..."
"Okay!" Little Deer nodded obediently, then pushed the plate that had been placed in front of her back to the center of the table, and said happily, "Let's eat together..."
Looking at the innocent and adorable antler-wearing boy in front of her, Su Yun felt that he was more and more to her liking. He was basically a vegetarian, could eat anything, and was not only polite but also very obedient.
It's simply the perfect choice for residents.
Su Yun's eyes crinkled into two small crescent moons with laughter once again.
The night breeze beside him was practically turning into lemon juice... so sour... Su Yun used to always add food just for him, but now... he wanted to kick her out...
After dinner, Su Yun took Xiao Lu to his temporary lodging, the small courtyard where Rose had previously stayed. Having been vacant for a long time, the courtyard was inevitably a bit dilapidated, but Xiao Lu cheered happily, "I have my own little courtyard now! It's so spacious, and there's even a bed... This is amazing..."
The little deer looked at everything with curiosity, at the made-up little bed, and at the clean little yard planted with wild roses. It was very happy and satisfied.
"This flower looks delicious. Sister, can I eat it?" The little deer blinked its eyes, staring at the cluster of wild roses that were blooming beautifully.
Su Yun: "Um...okay."
Since Rose left, Su Yun had been thinking about increasing productivity. Seeing that this yard was closer, she moved the rabbit to the yard next to the quail's, then did some minor repairs here and planted some wild roses. Wild roses are easy to grow, and they bloomed in a large clump here, almost covering the entire wall. Originally, she wanted to add some decoration to the small yard, but she didn't expect them to come in handy for other purposes.
"Eat up, eat up, there's so much of it, it's no problem to take it all," Su Yun said with a smile. "Anyway, you're free to do whatever you want here for now~"
To make guests feel at home, Su Yun decided to give Xiaolu absolute freedom, allowing the child to stay as naturally as breathing.
The little deer happily picked a bunch of flowers, savoring the petals as she exclaimed, "Sister, you're so kind!"
"I'm glad you like it~"
The night breeze beside him was irritating; it was infuriating. These were flowers he had planted for Su Yun, yet they had become a gift to please another man...
I'm so angry I want to cut down the whole rose bush, burn it, throw it away, and not let that bastard eat it...
However, Su Yun was still happily helping Xiao Lu plan the layout of the new courtyard and making his bed...
The night wind grew even angrier.
"When is he leaving?" That was the first thing Ye Feng asked when he got home.
"Huh? What's wrong? Isn't Xiaolu doing great? She's polite and hardworking. If we don't have enough labor at home, having one more person means we can grow more corn and more rice. Isn't that great?" Su Yun blinked her eyes, looking at Ye Feng innocently.
Night Breeze felt very frustrated, but couldn't find a reason to refute it. "But...but..."
"But what is it?" Su Yun blinked, looking at the other person with some anticipation.
"But..." Ye Feng felt a lump in his throat, wanting to find a reason to refute Su Yun, but found that what the other party said made a lot of sense, and he couldn't refute it at all.
Finally, he could only angrily say, "But we can't eat that much!" and stormed off.
Su Yun: ? ? ?
Nonsense! You clearly drank three bowls of porridge today!
Watching the night wind's departing figure, Su Yun thought to himself, "This verification method—it doesn't seem very useful."
However, Ye Feng had other ideas in mind, in order to verify that they did not need a third person to increase the labor force.
So the next day, Ye Feng got up early and diligently watered the vegetable garden. He wanted to prove that he could handle all the work by himself and that he could help Su Yun get everything done.
Just as he was engrossed in tending the vegetable garden, there was a knock at the door, and a little deer called out from outside: "Su Yun, are you there?"
"Knock knock knock—" Another knock on the door.
Is anyone home?
The night wind pretended not to hear, thinking to itself, "I'm not letting you in."
Unexpectedly, Su Yun was already awake. She rubbed her sleepy eyes, got up and opened the door. "What's wrong? Why did you come over so early in the morning?"
The little deer's eyes were bright as she happily handed Su Yun a bouquet of fresh lilies and a small bag of apples wrapped in green leaves. "Sister, this is the breakfast I brought for you."
"Wow, where did these apples come from?" Su Yun opened the leaves, revealing a bunch of fist-sized, bright red apples, still covered in morning dew, which looked very cute, along with a large bunch of fresh lilies.
Su Yun was overjoyed to receive such a pleasant surprise first thing in the morning: "Little Deer, you're so kind!"
"Yo~" the little deer responded softly.
Seeing the other person holding flowers in one hand and an apple in the other.
Looking at myself with a small hoe in one hand and wild grass in the other, I cried in the night wind; there was simply no comparison.
He understood, and he decided to go out and find flowers, flowers that bloom profusely and beautifully. Oh, right, he could bring back the rose bush from yesterday. He shouldered his hoe and headed outside...
Su Yun looked at Ye Feng, who was carrying a hoe and running outside, and asked curiously, "Where are you going?"
“I’ll go and dig up that rose bush. You said you loved roses the most.”
"Oh? No need. Rose cuttings will grow. We can just plant the flower stems we brought back."
Night Breeze tilts its head: Hmm?
So... the roses that were originally placed neatly in the vase were all stuck in the corner of the wall, arranged in an unsightly row.
However, the lilies were still carefully protected in the vase.
The night wind protested: "This doesn't look good!"
Su Yun was very satisfied. "Why do we need it to look pretty? Planting it like this will ensure that this area is covered with roses next year! When the whole wall is covered with roses, it will look beautiful!"
Looking at the bare, lonely rose bush, Ye Feng thought to himself: I don't want a rose bush like this, but Su Yun won't let me touch it.
Well, I guess I'll have to think of some other solutions.
Just as Ye Feng was trying to find something else to do to surpass Xiao Lu, Xiao Lu's next action was even more considerate.
When they were doing farm work together, Xiao Lu always volunteered to do everything first, helping Su Yun carry water and plow the fields. During breaks, she would even hold up a small fan and enthusiastically fan Su Yun.
......
Ye Feng could only swing his hoe and watch the two of them sitting on the edge of the field sharing snacks. He had originally planned to take advantage of the deer's rest to do more work and show that he was hardworking and more capable than the deer. However, the other person sat down next to Su Yun, and the two of them chatted and laughed as they shared the snacks that originally belonged to him and Su Yun.
"Sister, these yellow peaches are delicious, did you make them?"
"Yes, this mango one is also good, you should try it."
"Wow, it really is delicious! You're amazing, sister!"
......
Watching the two of them smile sweetly, Ye Feng's eyes gradually filled with resentment...
This continued for several days.
Su Yun increasingly felt that Xiao Lu was a very good resident—hardworking, kind, and very polite.
Every day it's "sister, sister," here you go, I'll help you.
She felt that the other party's attitude was very good, and they seemed to be very happy here.
So she tentatively asked Night Breeze, "What do you think about Little Deer living with us from now on?"
Night Breeze: "Not very good!"
These past few days, Xiao Lu has been sticking to Su Yun during the day, calling her "sister," which has made Ye Feng quite annoyed.
The newly brought-back flowers and plants couldn't compare to the various kinds of fruits, and Su Yun didn't even look at the newly caught fish.
The night wind looked dejected and very depressed.
What exactly should I do to get Su Yun's attention back to me?
Night Breeze had no experience and couldn't figure it out. Should he use the method Rose had taught him before?
The night breeze was lost in deep thought...
On the other side, Su Yun looked with great interest at the small, transparent fish that Ye Feng had caught. After thinking for a moment, he suggested, "The weather is nice today, why don't we go fishing at the reservoir together!" He had brought back a few fishing rods last time, but they hadn't been used yet.
"Fishing?" Night Breeze Deer suddenly became interested. It was his first time away from home, and he was full of curiosity about everything.
Ye Feng's eyes lit up. Great! He was going to prove himself in this fishing trip!
Riding an electric tricycle, the journey that would normally take half a day was completed in just one hour. The weather was lovely today; the sun wasn't too strong, and large, fluffy white clouds blocked the intense sunlight, leaving only slivers of gentle, non-scorching light.
A gentle breeze caressed the water's surface, creating ripples. Su Yun casually found a shady spot on the water's edge and began fishing.
An earthworm is threaded onto a fishhook and the hook sinks into the water.
Night Breeze stared intently at the fishing float bobbing on the water's surface, eager to show off his skills. However, fishing is not as simple as catching frogs; it requires ample patience, exceptional technique, and a bit of luck...
Unfortunately, Ye Feng lacked just that little bit of luck.
