Chen Niansheng nodded: "I was just thinking of going to see her too."
Grandma Chen curled her lip: "They're all heartless. The Zuo family is the second-in-command in the shelter, they used to be local tyrants. Zhizhi has only ever enjoyed the good life with them, never suffered. This girl has climbed up the social ladder and forgotten her family. Tomorrow I'll go with you to see her. As her grandmother, I have to give her a talking-to, let her know that without her family's support, she won't have a good life in her husband's family!"
Chen Niansheng felt a headache coming on and gave his older sister, Chen Ziyue, a look, asking her to help stop their mother.
Chen Ziyue also felt that her mother had become increasingly arrogant and confused since her father passed away. She patiently and softly said, "Mom, you can hardly walk now. We are going to the city center. The weather outside is so cold, and we have to walk for quite a while. How can your body take it?"
If you have anything to say, just tell me, and I'll pass it on to Zhizhi. Our Zhizhi is a good girl; she only lost contact with us because of a natural disaster.
Now that we've come to them for help, they've helped us arrange a good place to stay, so we can't ask for too much and make things difficult for our own child.
Grandma Chen grumbled a few more times in dissatisfaction, but in the end, she was escorted back to her room by the two siblings. In the end, she had shown off her power but hadn't accomplished anything.
The next day, Chen Ziyue and his wife, along with Chen Niansheng, went to the central district. However, upon entering the Zuo family's house, they did not see Zuo Hui and Chen Zhizhi. Instead, they were greeted by Zuo Hui's mother, Liao Ying, the matriarch of the Zuo family.
Liao Ying treated the group to tea for a while, and then explained that Chen Zhizhi had been feeling unwell recently and had a lot on her mind. The doctor said that she should not be allowed to get too emotionally agitated.
Therefore, Liao Ying suggested that Chen Niansheng and the others wait until Chen Zhizhi gave birth before coming to see her. However, the Zuo family did not go too far and arranged for someone to lead Chen Niansheng and the others to Chen Zhizhi's isolation room, allowing them to see Chen Zhizhi's condition through the window.
Chen Zhizhi's belly looked quite large, but she was thin and haggard, and was resting on the bed with her eyes closed.
After Chen Niansheng and his elder sister finished seeing Chen Zhizhi, the three of them sat for a while longer before saying goodbye.
On the way, Chen Niansheng said to his older sister with some concern, "I think Zhizhi's condition is not very good."
