Chapter 130 Intent

Li Ke knew that there had been quite a few private transactions between men and women in the shelter. As long as it was consensual, the authorities would not investigate unless the public complained. Everyone turned a blind eye, all for the sake of making a living.

Therefore, Li Ke had no objection to Zhang Panwen's so-called work, but she only let her handle this matter alone, which seemed to have some ulterior motives.

Listening from the side, Sun Ting felt that Zhang Panwen's request was a bit excessive. She frowned and said, "Why don't we wait another day and see? Isn't it making things difficult for Li Ke to go alone?"

Zhang Panwen's eyes immediately reddened: "A car will be coming to pick us up for work later. What if I can't come back tomorrow? I'm just worried. Li Ke is from the enforcement team. She'll just go with the car and find out the details. They'll even send a car to bring her back. What could possibly happen? Do you have to make a scene so everyone knows what I'm doing out there? Do you look down on me too? If it weren't for me and Xiaoxiao, we'd still be living in the lobby, unable to even get a sanitary napkin. Do you have any conscience?"

Sun Ting blushed: "I didn't mean that, I was just worried..."

“Okay, I’ll go with you alone. When is the car coming?” Li Ke agreed immediately and asked Zhang Panwen.

Zhang Panwen was taken aback for a moment, then quickly replied, "They'll be here in about an hour."

Sun Ting chimed in, "I'll go with you; more people means more strength."

Zhang Panwen asked somewhat abruptly, "You're going too? Are you also going to do it? The people in the car are all going to work."

Sun Ting shut her mouth tightly, somewhat angrily, and stopped talking. Zhang Panwen had been in a bad mood and her temper had worsened since she took this job. She was only able to share a single room with them because of their kindness, so she had to put up with it.

Li Ke observed the two of them for a while. Sun Ting seemed genuinely worried about Gao Xiaoxiao and whether something unexpected might happen, while Zhang Panwen's attitude was somewhat ambivalent, which aroused suspicion.

Did Zhang Panwen want to betray her by making it clear that she was to be the only one going, or was someone else specifically instructing her to lead her there?

"I'll go tell my colleague, and then I'll go wait for the bus with you. You can tell me the details about the place then," Li Ke said to Zhang Panwen before turning to find her colleague.

Zhang Panwen quickly grabbed Li Ke's sleeve: "How do you plan to tell your colleagues?"

Seeing the apprehensive look in her eyes, Li Ke smiled and said, "I just told them I had to take care of some personal matters and that they could handle their work for the day."

Zhang Panwen felt as if Li Ke had seen through her, and she awkwardly let go of his hand: "I'm just too afraid of being gossiped about. Now I feel like everyone is looking at me with ulterior motives. Thank you for being willing to help me."

Li Ke, wearing the law enforcement team uniform, got into the car that came to pick her up. The driver was a rather tall man. Besides Li Ke, there were four girls in the car, making it a bit cramped as it was one person overloaded. However, Li Ke, sitting in the passenger seat, didn't feel anything.

From the moment Li Ke got into the car until it started moving, the driver didn't ask her any questions about her appearance. He only glanced at her a few times after they started driving.

The driver was driving very fast. In this snowy weather, when the roads are not very good, driving like this is not very respectful to passengers.

Although no one spoke in the entire carriage, Li Ke could still sense that the driver was trying to intimidate her. The girls in the back were already sitting very cramped, and the bumpy ride made them groan in discomfort from time to time.

Li Ke felt that the driver was asking for a beating, so she punched him on the head. Because she had been sitting calmly one second and then suddenly attacked him, the driver was really not prepared and took the punch.

While the driver was still dazed, Li Ke threw another punch, pressed the man down with his elbow, opened the car door, grabbed the steering wheel, and kicked the man out of the car.

The four women in the back seat gasped in surprise, and Zhang Panwen even questioned, "What are you doing?"

Li Ke got into the driver's seat, steadied the car, and shouted sternly at the back, "Shut up!"
