Chapter 155 Severe Cold

Zhuang Yihao guessed correctly. Li Ke felt that there was no need to keep him around. He wouldn't tell her where Zhuang Weifeng was, and he might not even know. Keeping such a cunning person around would be troublesome.

Zhuang Yihao spoke again, "Where did Li Ke go? I haven't seen her lately. Is she on another mission, or has she been here the whole time?"

Zhuang Yihao stared at the man in front of him with a meaningful look in his eyes, but Li Ke ignored him completely and was about to finish him off with a knife.

"Wait, I have something to say." Zhuang Yihao quickly stopped him. It was really unnecessary to play tricks on someone who was about to kill him.

Li Ke held the knife and looked at him. Zhuang Yihao opened his mouth a few times. He wanted to leave a message for Susan to apologize, but he felt that he was being hypocritical. If he said it to outsiders, it would only make them think he was despicable.

He also wanted to leave a message for his nephew, telling him to stay away from those people and to run far away, as long as he could live a good life. But if this person really delivered the message to his nephew, could Ah Feng still continue to live?

He changed the subject at the last minute: "Why don't you keep me here a little longer? You didn't kill Tanaka, so one more won't be a problem."

Li Ke snorted. She kept Tanaka around because letting that guy die a quick death was too easy for him. She didn't have time to take care of the others.

After sending Zhuang Yihao on his way, Li Ke began collecting ice and snow. This stuff is everywhere now. Li Ke traveled and stopped along the way, and it took him two months to circle back to the outer perimeter of the shelter.

For the past two months, the temperature has been consistently below -70 degrees Celsius, reaching as low as -80 degrees Celsius. Li Ke has maintained a habit of spending at least two hours outdoors every day.

During this period, the wind and snow continued, and the world was silent. Li Ke walked outside and did not see any living people, but he did see quite a few corpses that had frozen and starved to death in their houses.

Despite the severe cold, two major earthquakes occurred. Li Ke could only deduce that the earthquakes took place in the south, and she only felt the aftershocks that lasted for nearly a day.

Li Ke observed the situation in the shelter through binoculars. Apart from occasionally seeing some personnel on duty, there was no one else active inside the shelter.

According to Li Ke's memory, the severe cold would last for more than two months, and the temperature would drop even further in the following month, causing even more people to freeze to death. It wasn't until more than two months later that the temperature would slowly begin to rise and the ice and snow would completely melt, around May.

The Zuo family's missing supplies were ultimately determined to be their own problem. Every place in the shelter that could be searched was checked, and there were no extra supplies anywhere.

Xiao Yi found no supplies at the Zuo family's residence, which puzzled him greatly. Just in case, he reinforced the guards at the official warehouse.

The Zuo family was extremely dissatisfied with the results given by the law enforcement team. It was simply outrageous that they were made to take responsibility for such a major theft.

Uncle Zuo was dissatisfied and brought people and weapons to try to break into the official warehouse. The Zuo family kept demanding that the official warehouse be opened so they could verify it, but how could the law enforcement team agree to such an outrageous request?

Upon receiving the news, Xiao Yi immediately led his men to stop Uncle Zuo. Without saying a word, he shot and killed him. All the bodies were sent back to the Zuo family as a warning, and the Zuo family finally quieted down.

Zuo Hui disappeared, and his supplies were stolen. The Zuo family only had their meager assets left in the villa area. They had no other support now, and Xiao Yi was powerful and ruthless. The Zuo family could only temporarily back down and accept their fate.

The only one who benefited from this whole affair was probably Chen Zhizhi. Just after the Zuo family discovered that Zuo Hui might be missing, Chen Zhizhi finally went into labor.

Although the house was in a mess, this new life received more attention from the head of the Zuo family than ever before. Now, the child is two months old. Although he is a little weak, his overall health is still good.

Chen Zhizhi's health improved even faster. After hearing that Zuo Hui might be missing, she miraculously found motivation and stopped having wild thoughts. She focused solely on protecting herself and her child.

As she wished, she and her child were both fine, and no one wanted to separate them anymore.

The head of the household's health deteriorated day by day, and his mother, Liao Ying, devoted all her energy to taking care of her husband and managing household affairs. The number of servants in the villa was reduced to only three, so it was naturally better for the child to be cared for by his biological mother.

Although the Zuo family had fallen on hard times, Chen Zhizhi's living conditions hadn't actually deteriorated much because she had to breastfeed her newborn.

Xiao Yi quickly learned about the theft at the Chen family's home. After hearing the news, the first person Xiao Yi suspected was the missing Li Ke, but he did not reveal any clues.

They hastily closed such a big case as the Zuo family's, let alone the small Chen family's. Moreover, due to the severe drop in temperature, almost all the work at the shelter has come to a standstill, which has caused panic among ordinary people who live off work points.

The shelter's power supply, incubation facilities, underground works, and fuel supply have all been suspended. Currently, the canteen is only supplied with electricity for three hours a day, and other areas have to find their own solutions.

At its peak, the shelter housed eight million people, but before the winter was even over, the population had dwindled to less than three million.

Xiao Yi has been so busy lately that he's been unshaven and his eyes are bloodshot. Their official granaries were already running low, and if it weren't for the supplies donated by the Qin family, plus some supplies from the Jian family, the shelter would have collapsed a month ago.

Several disturbances, large and small, occurred during this period, all of which were violently suppressed by Xiao Yi and his men. However, if the situation in the shelter does not improve, sooner or later their men will also be unable to suppress it.
