After listening to Hu Chong's account of what happened, Qiu Feng couldn't help but laugh for a while. Hu Chong said with some dissatisfaction, "Brother, this is a serious matter."
Qiu Feng retorted, "Don't go around calling me 'big brother,' I'm not worthy of being your big brother."
Hu Chong knew he had let Qiu Feng down, so he didn't argue.
Qiu Feng then asked, "So you mean, we don't know when a high-walled self-defense point appeared on the hilltop, and they even thoughtfully put up a sign saying 'Restricted Area, Anyone Who Enters Will Die.' If your people didn't believe it, two of them died, and then you went to defuse mines and provoke them, only to be bombarded by their cannons."
Hu Chong: "..."
Seeing that Hu Chong didn't want to talk, Qiu Feng deliberately asked again, "Is that so?"
Hu Chong took a deep breath: "That's it."
Qiu Feng then said with satisfaction, "I didn't know. I never knew there was such a stronghold. We were all imprisoned before, how would we know what it was like outside? We've been busy finding food and supplies lately, so we don't have the energy to care about that barren mountain."
Hu Chong: So all I did was come to Qiu Feng's place to play the victim for nothing, and ended up not learning anything at all.
Hu Chong said, holding his breath, "Lin Nuo might know something. Brother, why don't you call him over and ask him?"
Qiu Feng waved his hand, signaling someone to bring Lin Nuo up.
Ten minutes later, Lin Nuo was escorted in. He was covered in mud, his hands and feet were bare and covered in mud, and he was no longer the handsome man he once was.
Looking at Lin Nuo's miserable state, Hu Chong spoke up for him with some emotion, "After all, he's your own brother. Big brother, aren't you being too cruel to him?"
Qiu Feng turned to look at him: "Where were you when we were working as laborers for him?"
When Qiu Feng asked him this, Hu Chong remembered that there was such a thing. He was speechless for two seconds before saying somewhat awkwardly, "I didn't think that much about it."
Qiu Feng snorted coldly: "Then shut up."
Lin Nuo's spirits were much lower than a few days ago, but he still loved to joke. When he saw Hu Chong appear, he laughed and said, "The boss released you. Does this mean he's abandoned me?"
Hu Chong shook his head: "The boss wants to prioritize peace and get along with the elder brother. If the elder brother won't let you go, the boss can't interfere too much."
Lin Nuo nodded, her smile undiminished: "I see. But I still want to follow the boss. Could you go back and talk to him for me? I miss him and I miss the miracle drug."
Hu Chong found the two brothers to be just as annoying as each other: "You know perfectly well that I can't see the boss and can only report to him one-on-one. And if I were to actually relay your sarcastic remarks, do you think the boss would still want you?"
Lin Nuo nodded seriously: "Yes, the boss is very broad-minded."
Hu Chong stopped arguing with him and recounted what had happened to him, asking if he knew what was going on up there.
Lin Nuo really didn't know: "When we attacked, winter was just over, and there was a huge flood during that time. We stayed indoors every day. Then it rained continuously, so it was even more difficult to go out."
After the rain stopped, the boss demanded the construction of an underground project, and then we were busy recruiting and dropping off people. We really didn't know when such a base would appear on the mountain.
But I don't recall this place existing. And judging by its scale, it doesn't seem like it could have been built in a short time. I'll probably have to ask the locals if this place existed before.
Hu Chong looked at Qiu Feng. If he wanted to ask about the old acquaintances here, he would have to ask Qiu Feng for help. Qiu Feng did not bring anyone over, but instructed Niu Dazhuang to go down and inquire.
After receiving his instructions, Niu Dazhuang went to the Third Battalion, where the most old people were located. They were the original inhabitants of the town, so asking them would be the right thing to do.
After asking around, Niu Dazhuang was confused and came to three conclusions. One group said that the stronghold had been there for a long time and that they had seen it from afar when they went up the mountain to cut firewood and look for supplies.
Some said they had never seen the wall before, and that it might have been built recently. Others said they didn't know, feeling that it was there but not quite, and couldn't remember.
Niu Dazhuang had no choice but to let them continue working while he went back to bring the results back.
Song Xian lowered his head and continued shoveling soil. His reply was that he didn't know. Song Xian hadn't walked the road that Niu Dazhuang asked about, but he knew that Brother Li Jia had.
Brother Li Jia also said that he hadn't encountered anyone along the way. Song Xian suspected that Brother Li Jia might be one of the people from that stronghold, but he didn't know how to answer in a way that would benefit Brother Li Jia.
But Brother Li Jia didn't want anyone to know of his existence, so Song Xian, along with some others, gave the answer that he wasn't sure and didn't remember.
Niu Dazhuang brought back the results, and Hu Chong was somewhat amused and annoyed: "How did you ask the question?"
Niu Dazhuang asked bluntly, "I just want to know if you know when the high-walled construction site on the northwest mountain was built?"
Hu Chong said angrily, "You're chatting like old folks, how reliable can the conclusions you come up with be?"
Niu Dazhuang retorted bluntly, "Then how do you want to ask? Can't you be a little more clever?"
Hu Chong said directly, "If you pull them out one by one and speak to them in a serious and solemn tone, their answers might be more reliable."
Niu Dazhuang snorted: "It would be best to set up an interrogation room, so they wouldn't dare to say anything out of fear, wouldn't that be even better?"
Hu Chong ignored him and turned to Qiu Feng: "I'm doing this for everyone's good. Originally, it was just the two of us, and we knew each other's backgrounds. Now, a mysterious third party has suddenly appeared. If he's not good for us, we'll be in a very passive position."
