Chapter 202 The Long Downpour

Qiu Feng took forty-three people away, leaving the rest locked up by Song Xian. Song Xian then reported to Li Ke, who instructed Song Xian to put heavy iron shackles on them and make them dig underground projects. He told them that if they did well, they would be fed and drunk, but if they disobeyed, they would be forced to return to their original positions to work under the moonlight.

It took Qiu Feng three days to send back a message: they had rescued Jin Ce and part of his team from the boss's underground stronghold, and persuaded some of his men to surrender. They had now retreated to the city's shelter.

The situation at the shelter was somewhat complicated. There were people who had sought refuge with the boss, people who had been incited by the Qiu Feng brothers to follow him, and a group of ordinary people who were unaware of the situation and only wanted to protect themselves.

Qiu Feng and his men left more than 30 brothers to guard the stronghold, and took more than 200 men to attack it. Some of them were new recruits from the town. The fighting strength mainly relied on the brothers themselves. Fortunately, they had the mini cannons that had been sent from the mountain, and other firepower was also sufficient, which gave them a lot of confidence.

However, the current situation is somewhat deadlocked. The boss's people want to take Jin Ce back, while Jin Ce wants to bring back all his team members. The city shelter has been divided and occupied by them.

Niu Dazhuang brought his men over wanting more firearms. When Song Xian went up the mountain to find Li Ke, he squatted at the entrance of the project, watching his brothers chat below.

"You guys seem to have gotten a bit stronger. I heard the food here is pretty good. What have you been eating lately?" Niu Dazhuang asked his men with a teasing tone.

The men guarding the entrance, who were hoisting soil up, had a moment to spare. One of them picked up a small pebble and threw it at Niu Dazhuang, saying, "Don't gloat here. Aren't you on good terms with this place? Talk to them and say that we know we were wrong and are willing to work hard here. Ask them to remove our shackles."

Niu Dazhuang dodged the small pebble and said with a smile, "This is what you got yourself into. Just bear with it for a couple more days. The people on the mountain are all upright. As long as you submit, they won't go too far. I'm still begging them to provide me with lighters. I'm afraid if I say too much, they'll be unhappy and they'll take some of my things, which would be a loss."

The man looked up again and asked, "Is Jin Ce really with you? You'd better protect him; he holds the lives of our brothers in his hands."

Niu Dazhuang nodded: "Don't worry, although you have disappointed us brothers, we still remember that friendship and will not stand by and watch someone die."

Upon hearing this, the man's expression darkened: "Do you think we want this? But if we stop taking the medicine, we'll degenerate into useless people. If we're going to live a life of ignominy, we'd rather die!"

Niu Dazhuang's face also turned cold upon hearing this: "You should be digging in the dirt down there for the rest of your lives. Would the boss let you die? You still can't figure out where you went wrong? No wonder the boss left you here."

After saying that, Niu Dazhuang got up and left, not even glancing at the people below. Back then, when they followed their boss, these people had all pledged their loyalty and vowed to follow him to the death. Now, just because of those two doses of medicine, they've abandoned their boss. They deserve to die!

Li Ke got out of the car and asked Niu Dazhuang to move the firearms out of the car. Niu Dazhuang glanced at them and exclaimed, "You are like our second parents. If I die, I will definitely find you to be my reincarnation."

Li Ke glanced at him: "If you are reincarnated again, you may not be as complete as you are now. You may have more or less something."

Niu Dazhuang thought about the current situation and said, "Then I'd better live well. With you guys as our powerful backers, we're still willing to live."

Li Ke didn't say anything, but Niu Dazhuang reported very conscientiously: "At most a week, we'll all be back. Actually, both sides are exhausted from fighting. It's so hot during the day that you can't even get out of bed. Several places underground have been bombed and collapsed. It wasn't easy to get these things back. Our boss said sternly that if they cause any more damage, we'll drive all the ordinary people out and bomb them."

Some of those people still have some humanity and don't want to cause too many innocent deaths, but capturing them all will be quite difficult.

As long as things are peaceful here, Li Ke doesn't care about anything else: "I wish you a speedy return. Use your firearms sparingly. When there are more people, you should make your own defensive weapons. Don't always rely on us."

Niu Dazhuang saluted: "Understood."

Li Ke remained standing still, and Niu Dazhuang asked in confusion, "Shouldn't you return the gift?"

Li Ke cursed the bastard inwardly, then tested her again, proving that she was truly unpredictable: "Get lost! Don't try that trick on me!"

Niu Dazhuang chuckled, turned around, and drove away. Only then did Song Xian speak up, "Was he testing whether my brother was a soldier?"

Li Ke turned her head and glanced at him: "That's somewhat the idea."

Song Xian asked with some curiosity, "Brother, are we actually part of the military?"

Li Ke replied decisively, "No."

Song Xian chuckled twice. Although he heard Brother Li's serious answer, he didn't believe it.

Li Ke handed Chen Qi and Shui Qing, also in shackles, to Song Xian, instructing him to assign them tasks, but not to let them associate with Qiu Feng's brothers.

But a week later, instead of Qiu Feng and the others returning, Li Ke was met with a long, torrential downpour that started at midnight and lasted for almost half a month.

The dried-up riverbeds and canals were filled with rainwater in just one day, but this was not a good thing for the extremely hot and harsh weather.

Although the sunlight was not as strong, the temperature did not drop, and the dripping rainwater was extremely corrosive. Until the rain stopped, everyone had to stay in the basement and could not go out.
