Seeing Li Ke staring at the fish, Niu Dazhuang assumed she was interested in them and said, trying to please her, "You like these fish? There are plenty by the sea. I'll go catch some more for you."
Seeing his eagerness, Li Ke asked, "Isn't Jin Ce studying these fish? Has he figured anything out yet?"
Niu Dazhuang: "It's not that fast, it's only the third day. But Jin Ce said that these fish are all poisonous. Luckily, we didn't eat them indiscriminately because we were hungry."
Li Ke calculated the time. The weather was still unusually hot, but even so, almost half a year had passed. In three months at most, the weather would get colder and colder. She wanted to go out and catch more fish during these three months.
She didn't mention the fish much in the trailer because she was busy and forgot about it. Besides, the fish wasn't edible, and its numbers dwindled in the following years. She also left the coastal area and forgot about it altogether.
Seeing that Li Ke was lost in thought again, and that Song Xian had finished looking at the fish and left to attend to his own business, Niu Dazhuang took out a conch shell the size of a head from his backpack and waved it in front of Li Ke's eyes.
Li Ke was jolted back to her senses and asked with a frown, puzzled, "What are you doing?"
Niu Dazhuang laughed and said, "This is a gift I brought back for you, little brother. Speaking of which, we've known each other for so long, and you haven't even told us your name. That's too much of a formality. After all, we've been through thick and thin together. You can at least tell us your name, right?"
Li Ke didn't take the conch shell from Niu Dazhuang's hand. This guy's attitude was a bit strange. How to put it? He was being too gentle with her. Li Ke suspected that Niu Dazhuang had figured something out. She refused, saying, "Just call me brother. No need for gifts. I don't like these things. You can give them to someone else."
Niu Dazhuang still held it up: "I brought back a lot, everyone else has them, but this one is specially for you. You can keep it as a decoration."
Li Ke didn't want to keep refusing, so she reached out and took it. She examined it carefully and found that it was indeed an empty conch shell, with nothing suspicious inside.
When Niu Dazhuang saw that he had accepted the call, his smile deepened: "Since you're at the foot of the mountain today, I don't need to go up to find you. There's something I'd like to ask you to help me ask for instructions from above. Hongbo's wounded soldiers are leaving, and they want to know if we have any extra radios here. If so, they'd like us to provide them with one."
Li Ke asked them when they were leaving, and Niu Dazhuang replied that it would be tomorrow evening.
Li Ke told Niu Dazhuang to go back and urge Jin Ce to see if he could find anything on the fish. She would apply to her superiors for the radio communication, and give them the results by tomorrow evening.
Niu Dazhuang went back happily and told the team members to wait a little longer. He then went to Jin Ce to urge him to finish the task, but before he could say two words, Jin Ce scolded him and kicked him out.
As Niu Dazhuang was walking out, he saw Lin Shuang pushing Lin Nuo towards him. He wanted to pretend he didn't see her and walk straight past, but Lin Shuang called out to him.
"Brother Dazhuang, I heard you've been back for a few days. I only just ran into you today. Why didn't you say anything to us?" Lin Shuang said sadly.
These older brothers used to dote on her, but now that the boss has run away with his men, she and Qiu Chen have been brought back by the eldest brother, but everyone is clearly not as close to them as before.
Sitting in her wheelchair, Lin Nuo sneered, "Why should they care about us? We're just like chickens and dogs that have fallen out of favor. The fact that they haven't slit our throats is already a huge favor. Lin Shuang, you should see this clearly. Stop thinking you're a young lady. You're not even as good as a little maid now."
Lin Shuang said somewhat anxiously, "Brother, can you stop being so sarcastic? I never wanted to be a rich young lady. I just want to go back to how things were before."
Niu Dazhuang was stopped by them but didn't say a word. He rolled his eyes and was about to walk away when Lin Shuang hurriedly said, "Brother Dazhuang, do you really not want to talk to me?"
Niu Dazhuang countered, "So, do you know you're wrong? Do you really think you're wrong?"
Lin Shuang remained stubbornly silent upon hearing this. She truly did not believe she was wrong. She thought that changing the human physique was necessary, and the reason they had reached this point was entirely due to the adults' love of scheming and their lack of unity.
Niu Dazhuang was also exhausted. This kind of brat was the most annoying. She wasn't even his biological sister. He had been nice to her before because of her older brother. Now that she was acting so recklessly, even though she was young, Niu Dazhuang was still annoyed by her.
"If you idiots were really my own brother and sister, I would have snapped your necks so you could never harm anyone again. Don't bother me anymore, just seeing you makes me uncomfortable." Niu Dazhuang said this and left.
Lin Shuang was left standing there stunned, as if struck by lightning. Lin Nuo couldn't bear to see his sister's foolish state and urged, "What are you still standing there for? Push me inside."
Lin Shuang's eyes reddened with anger, and she asked in disbelief, "Brother Dazhuang, are you just saying that out of anger? I haven't done anything to wrong anyone, have I? You were the one who did those things, so why is he saying this about me?"
Lin Nuo was also annoyed. He had become a useless person, what more did they want from him?
"You're almost seventeen, can't you use your brain? You chose to stand with me back then, so don't blame people for scolding you now. Be more mature," Li Nuo said impatiently.
Lin Shuang turned around angrily and leaned against the wall next to her: "I haven't even celebrated my sixteenth birthday yet, how am I seventeen? I'm just brainless. If you have a brain, go and try the drug yourself."
